@NecrofitzАй бұрын
Your DRK experiences in Ktisis basically explain why I'm not a fan of seeing them when I heal dungeons. I've had some DRKs that seemed to have an excellent handle on cycling their defensives and I could be somewhat hands off. Generally though DRK is the first and only tank many pick up, and they get more focused on the fact that it's the coolest job over actually learning the major swings, much less the more nuanced pieces, of being a tank. Sure I've had bad PLDs, GNBs, and even the stray bad WAR that needs more support than they should to get through a dungeon, but the density of DRKs that need a pocket healer is so much higher than the rest combined. That aside, you are correct that the brine balls in Satasha hard heal the enemy that causes them to spawn. Noticed that myself last time I was in the dungeon and one managed to connect.
@CaetsuChaijiChАй бұрын
"they get more focused on the fact it's the coolest job over actually learning the major swings" really hits the nail for a large amount of dark knights I'm sure 😅
@fawkes6352Ай бұрын
As a Dark Knight main who will defend the job to my last breath... I think you're absolutely right. DRK's aesthetic and its well-received job questline attract a lot of people. But it requires strong tanking fundamentals - properly cycling your array of defensives, herding mobs in front of you for your many line AOEs, knowing when to time your one major heal (which is a REALLY big heal after 7.1) - to be able to thrive in dungeons. Without those fundamentals, a DRK will really struggle.
@bipolarprobeАй бұрын
I healed my way through a lot of Dawntrail and I always dreaded getting DRK as tanks to heal. It reached a point after a few days where I was convinced that DRK's mit just wasn't good enough for the higher damage we were experiencing in dungeons on dawntrail's launch. Then to do my role quests I levelled DRK from 90 to 100. I didn't replace my 90 gear as I went up through the Dawntrail dungeons, I was rocking 660 the whole time except for origenics since I knew that one hit particularly hard. My friend didn't struggle to heal me at all. I'm not a particularly good DRK but I think a huge number of players that pick up the job for its cool aesthetics don't realize how absolutely incredible TBN is. A lot of players seem outright afraid to press TBN thinking they might miss out on a usage of flood of shadow during a mob pull. I kinda just want to shake these players because 160 potency on aoe is a whole lot less of a loss than if you die. In general I tend to gauge how hard a particular tank is going to be to heal based on how I see them using their short cooldown mit. TBN, Bloodwhetting, Heart of Corundum, and Holy Sheltron are all extremely powerful and players that understand that and use them accordingly tend to understand all of their mits better.
@knowwhoiamyet28 күн бұрын
@@bipolarprobe I think a big QoL bonus to DRK would be to add the caveat that after TBN expires in general it gives the free use of Flood/Edge of Shadow, that way people don't need to worry about "wasting" it. Alternatively, just put it on a flat cooldown without MP cost and remove the free use from it outright so it's purely mitigation. I think people would be more willing to use it aggressively that way.
@bipolarprobe28 күн бұрын
@@knowwhoiamyet I'm personally not a fan of the idea just because I like interesting job design like TBN. Removing the mana cost entirely would take away the MP juggling minigame that you play as a dark knight when deciding how to spend your MP. I always find it fun trying to weigh up in a pull "Oh is enough damage coming in that it'll break my tbn or should I just use flood of shadow to kill the mobs faster?" Refunding MP when the ability expires I think could work. It still encourages players who want to optimize to use tbn when it will break to get the free use stockpiled for buffs but doesn't punish new players for using it aggressively. Realistically I think TBN is the coolest and best designed short cooldown mit among the tanks and would hate to see it changed, I just think the game needs to do a better job of teaching players how and when to use their mits and also not to be afraid to use cooldowns overall.

Yesterday when i was tanking as my DRK, i had someone tell me in 50-60 dungeons he never! uses more than 1 cd per pull, that he only would do that in higher dungeons, since Lower level ones aint hitting that hard... That came up when i was tanking Sohm AL and i was surprised why the mobs hit as hard as a tankbuster each hit in the dungeon for whatever reason. I started always cycling 2 def cd's (Repraisal + Rampart) for example, still got hit for ~800dmg each hit, which with ~8k life is pretty much crazy much...
@CaetsuChaijiChАй бұрын
Yeah as long as you split up the long cooldowns, using the shorter ones more frequently is fine! There are of course exceptions, but using shadow wall in one pull, rampart in the other, is a good starting point. Then when those end, you can use reprisal, or dark mind now that it also reduces physical damage a bit, and arms length is also an option! 😁

@@CaetsuChaijiCh Yeah, thats what i usually do :D. Although my first thought for scholar was fairy/psychic, I realize it may make more thematic sense to limit psychic to astrologian, since not only are they based around literal psychics, but the psychic type also has a lot of connections to space that fit well with astro. I feel like fairy/fighting might work well for scholar since the fighting type is also used to represent heroic spirits and such, which fits well with the idea of scholars leading their allies into battle. And what the heck, while I'm here I may as well share my ideas for the other healers' types lol! Pure grass would make sense of conjurer, but when it "evolves" into white mage, perhaps it could gain the fairy type as well? As for sage, I could see them being part steel to represent the more mechanical basis for their form of healing, and maybe even poison type given things like toxicon? Cleansing toxins in the body, while giving them to their enemy, or something like that! IDK, not knowing what the name of sage's actions means I only have so much of an understanding of what they actually mean lol. In summary: Conjurer: Pure Grass White Mage: Grass/Fairy Scholar: Fairy/Fighting Astrologian: Pure Psychic Sage: Steel/Poison

I don't want to trash talk that DRK or anything, but I do hope that they eventually get the hang of their job. Typing Scholar as a pokemon is definitely a toughy... I think the fairy type is kinda of a given but I also think it should have a secondary typing of psychic due to psychic also kind of including "magic" pokemon and attacks. This would also allow you to transition from its preevo arcanist being a pure psychic type. Summoner would stay pure psychic but with an ability similar to protean and access to flying, ground and fire moves. A small part of my brain would also love scholar to be fairy/fighting because that's sort of the two "fantasies" it represents - It's uses a fairy but its also supposed to be a battlefield tactitian. As far as stats I think it would be funny if it somehow included a weirdly *just serviceable enough* attack stat to represent book smacking. Also maybe an ability that makes certain non-damaging moves hit twice, kind of like parental bond.

Since DRK tanking came up, I have a question. When exactly is a good timing to use living dead? DRK is my least played tank, aside from a stretch during HW MSQ for in-character roleplay purposes. And I have never once successfully pulled it off because either the healer would heal me before it would activate or I'd hit it too late and die.
@CaetsuChaijiChАй бұрын
If you are going into a pull with the express intent TO use Living Dead, I recommend using a macro to announce that you plan to do this, before you pull. "I will use Living Dead on this pull". It is important to say it before you go, so that the healer has a chance to see it before the fighting begins. In a more panic situation, it is a lot harder, and I think trying your best to use it before you die at least is the best you can do. Whether the healer plays around it or not partly depends on whether you recognize you used Living Dead in the first place! In the case in the video, the reason it became a problem was because the tank sat on too low HP for far too long, and used Living Dead by the time I had already started spam healing them up! ^^

Not sure what I'd do to a tank that does not use any mitigation at all. The choices are hard carrying or playing normally with a focus on DPS-neutral healing. I had one of those in Dead Ends when I was new-ish to healing. Yes, that can happen at level 90. I had mainly alright to good tanks before, so not too much of an issue when I leveled my first healer. This was my first garbage tank and that's what was new for me. The tank didn't do anything at all until like 10%, then used Holmgang and Vengeance. What's a Bloodwhetting? Idk, probably some weird action that is not important and shouldn't be used.Naturally, that the run was rough was the healer's fault, amirite? This was the most miserable run I had as a healer to date. Now I'm more experienced and could probably handle it. I still prefer tanks who at least try to use the buttons they have. I just hope these kinds of players get experienced healers, who can hard carry the most decrepit players (if they want to), or won't back down in an argument due to their experience and kick the tank if it becomes too much of a problem. Being new to healing and having terrible tanks is not fun. Btw, what is that weird scholar thing that you mentioned? There is only Arcanist, then Summoner. My game clearly does not have that. I’m a returnee to the game. Decided to make a new character on a different data center for sh*ts and giggles. First Satasha run on WHM the tank decides to pull wall to wall (apparently there’s some kind of skip) without telling anyone 😂😂 Really missed how crazy healing can get 😂
@CaetsuChaijiChАй бұрын
Oh dear that sounds like a wild return! Welcome back! I am PRETTY SURE not all tanks do like that in random duties 😂
@4.1132Ай бұрын
Thanks 😊 It does keep things interesting xD

Can someone enlighten me of what is meant by "tanked on the staircase but otherwise didnt do anything with that"
@CaetsuChaijiChАй бұрын
Didn't use defensives when they reached the last pack. Moved the pack further over to the "wall", but not fully as they stopped by the stairs for some reason. Meaning they didn't stop at the last pack, and also didn't fully move it to the wall, meaning no one could be sure if the tank was going to move AGAIN so placed things like sacred soil would be iffy to use, lest the tank runs off again. And also they didn't do anything more, they didn't use any more defensives or anything 🤔😰

I love healing, but I'm so good at healing that it unfortunately enables really awful players to never cycle their defensive cooldowns. I know it isn't *obvious* how you should cycle them, but you play a tank in an mmo. Common sense to mit when taking a lot of damage ffs.

Playing devil's advocate here, that second DRK could have been having an off day. I know I've certainly gone many a time without mitigating bc I've simply forgotten to hit the buttons, but to let themselves get low and not realise? 🤔🤔
@CaetsuChaijiChАй бұрын
It is a possibility, however someone else commented that they've seen the name before, and that particular player has advised other dark knights to not use TBN, and things like that, so if that comment is to be believed, it seems unlikely! But you are right, anyone can have an off day 😅😊

Scylla is pronounced like "sill-uh", or "skew-la" in Greek!
@CaetsuChaijiChАй бұрын
Maybe I should go with the Greek one just to mess with people! 🤣

I play on bryn and imma be real i very VERY rarely see stuff like this, last time i saw something akin to these was allll the way back in stormblood, where i ran into a black mage who would ONLY cast flare At least the trash packs went fast 😅

I was leveling Astrologian when I got into Tam Tara with a tank who did those big pulls. Kind of a thrill! Essential Dignity is an interesting skill!

We went from healer strike to a tank defensive cooldown strike, to make sure the healers stay engaged and properly entertained in duties.

Chakra recast is way shorter than most gcds
@DancenoriginsАй бұрын
up to the level where you get charkra through your main gcds it could be used to get charkra while still attacking
@CaetsuChaijiChАй бұрын
It's recast is shorter but if you read the fine print (also known as the rest of the tooltip) you'll see that it goes on the gcd and also initiates the gcd for all the other options, so if you try to weave meditation "between" you just extend the gcd for the next proper attack by a full second. It is only meant to be used when you are not in range to use anything else, or while not in combat! 😅
@DancenoriginsАй бұрын
@@CaetsuChaijiChoh I agree but I guess I forgot to mention that I think that with how it's setup I can see a newbie getting the wrong idea from Chakra
@CaetsuChaijiChАй бұрын
@Dancenorigins oh definitely! Absolutely! 😊 I am sure they will figure it out with time though! 😊

If the tank didn’t use cooldowns, I’d try to remind them once, and if they still refuse to, I’m gone. I’ll take the penalty rather than the exercise in futility
@CaetsuChaijiChАй бұрын
That's fair 😊 I usually see it as a challenge, especially when I bring my camera 😏
