This is about a project that had everything to go wrong, and which ended into something very beautiful.
The initial idea was to create a mono shock Cafe Racer, and keep it clean, simple, and the most important, having the look of a Triumph Thruxton.
It was built by PI Piyayos, owner of Pi Customs, located in Thailand.
Sorry about the video's title, but for technical reasons, i had to designate it as if it was about a triumph Bonneville project, but i can confirm that this Triumph is based on the Scrambler version, and not the Bonneville.
My special thanks to Pedro Torres, for his great help with my english.
Here are some interesting links about this motorcycle:

As I mentioned in my previous comment, the future of the cafe racer style will be tied in much in the use of monoshock rear suspension. This project expresses the above and with a motorcycle that is the delight of the purists, the Triumph. Also, it is in Asia and Latin America that projects and even innovative trends are emerging. Thailand is a jewel of that innovation by much. I love this bike, and when looking at the images, seeing this powerful motorcycle along with the passing by from a tuk tuk is simply charming. Thanks for this project and this video.

Indeed my Friend. In what concerns to custom builds, the monoshock rear suspension has been a common choice. But among the factory motorcycles with cafe racer style, the dual shocks seems to be the casual choice. Personally, i like both, but i think the dual shock still has more charm. Thank you my friend for sharing your opinion. :) Saludos.

Stunning! This is a beautiful Café racer. Very well thought out and executed. Nice! Proportionally, the bike is very appealing. The lines are probably the best I’ve seen yet. I can't remember how long it's been since i last saw one live- people just don't make them here in Croatia (i have no idea why), but your videos rekindled my love for them. Now i just have to think of a way to get some extra cash, and try to enjoy my lame X9 500 until then :)

Certainly the best looking bike you have had for a long time. Looks ok to ride too although the seat looks like a bum burner. Also certainly the best effort made in Thailand that I have seen. This guy has a good eye. The Thais should be making some of the best as they understand style but usually have problems with the quality of the build, maybe they are getting there now. Given the changes that are going on here, they probably are.

We build 790/865 ( 904/995/1200) motors to produce 85-110 bhp rear wheel. They go in standard, T100, Scramblers and Street trackers. The company's owner had had articles in many motorcycle mags. Very overbuilt solid motors from the factory.

@RACER_TV
@RACER_TV 6 жыл бұрын

Hi, my name is Andre I'm from Brazil. First I'd like to say that I'm great fan of your videos. The photography and video making is genius and I also like very much the oral presentation with your passionate voice and the background music selection as well. And this video in particular along with the CX500 are my favorite ones. But I have to say that it might have one small error in the explanation about the engine differences. Although I've never seen one triumph engine disassembled I'm quite sure that this 270 degrees apart are not in the crankshaft itself as its suggested in the animation ( they certainly are 180 degrees apart in the scrambler because of balance purposes) . This 270 degrees difference is in the ignition timing ( or power stroke) . Since a complete 4 strokes movement is seen as 720 degrees spin on the flywheel on a parallel twin with Pistons going up and down together you would have one ignition each exact 360 degrees .
@RACER_TV
@RACER_TV 6 жыл бұрын

Stunningly beautiful bike, thanks for sharing. Not so sure why you showed a Thunderbird 900 Triple at 3.27 when you were comparing the sound with a V twin though? The Triple has a 120 degree firing order which in turn produces it's own characteristic growl.

Now in the Scrambler scheme you would have one spark on cylinder number one and a second spark coming 270 after on cylinder number two and after that you would have 450 degrees of spin with no spark performing 720 degrees altogether . Please pardon me if I'm wrong .
@RACER_TV
@RACER_TV 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, what you said is correct. But technically, this kind of crankshaft is known as a 270 crankshaft, because engineers only consider the rotation angle between the first ignition on cylinder number 1, and the secound ignition on the cylinder number 2. But Thank you for sharing your perspective.

Nice one, I have a Bonny cafe racer myself. This is a great version. By the way we have spoke before I had problemsa with my password and had to create a new account, I used to be miragepiper. I hope you are well.

I'm glad you liked my friend. I searched for old messages by "miragepiper". But i didn't found nothing. But that's ok. Everything is fine. I hope the same with you. Thank you my friend for your comment. :) Cheers.

It might have been phantom piper (my account was miragepiper), I was mad into learning the bagpipes at the time. We exchanged a few philosophical concepts over the years. Still it is good to see you are still producing quality videos. I have to admit I really enjoy the music and general ethos that is attached to much of your work :) Thank you.

Very impressive bike. Not sure about the clip on bars though from a safety point of view - I don't think they have a good history.

Good design and beautiful achievement . But headlight is really ugly and spoils a little bit the view of the bike ....

Who does the voice over ?
@RACER_TV
@RACER_TV 6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, things are more complicated than most people may think. I use this "robotic" voice created by software, because i'm Portuguese, and my bad english accent (and voice), can ruin the documentary character that i like for my videos. I already tried a real american voice in one of my videos, but things didn't worked as i expected. Curiously, the robotic voice sounds very good for all non english natives. Cheers.

Well, your perspective would be right, if the final project was ugly. But in this case, i think the end result is really beautiful, original and interesting. Cheers.

A lot of these bikes appeal at the gut level, that's why I look at them. It would be + to have that and real world function. A good marriage of art and tech is the bigger achievement. Jewellery is for showmen only. At least Liberace could play the piano.

I understand your perspective, and in a way, agree with it. But i also like to see different approaches like this one. If you appreciate real world function Cafe Racers, then i am sure you are going to love my personal Honda CX 650 cafe racer project which i am building now. Check my new video which is going to be published next friday. :) Cheers.
