Then let them go to the gym and learn a martial arts for self defence, rather than getting into a cage fight. people have a problem with this because it isn't for self defence purposes, it is for entertainment and soon will be bet on for money, and if you are in a gym learning you aren't in a place where you can be hurt unless you do something stupid.

I am a fighter myself ( kick boxing/ MMA ) and I disagree with this. Kids this young shouldnt be fighting on kages. It is good for a kid to learn Martial Arts as a discipline, but not to show off only self defense. These parents are ridiculous and ignorant, fighting is Extremely dangerous and can get someone to get killed. PLEASE do not encourage your kid at such a young age to fight on a cage, kids are ment to be playing and having fun with their friends.

I respect your opinion and see where you're coming from, but I respectfully disagree. Sure any sport with contact has a chance of injury but in most sports the objective isn't to hurt people and contact is only incidental. MMA involves intentionally, for lack of a better term, "beating the shit" out of people. I think every kid should learn martial arts for self defence but I strongly disagree with these kinds of competitions.

Some people have yet to realize that this is a sport and just like every other sport you get injuries...this just happens to be more intense. Kids have to know what their in for signing up for sports like this. You have to prepare to win and be able to take a loss like a win. Cage fighting should not be taken away from children because kids dedicate their time and effort into this sport and some of them actually do love it.

I started tae-kwan-do at 7. I'm currently a 4th dan black belt at 32. I have a purple belt in brazilian jiu-jitsu. At no time when i was under the age of 17 did I have full on brawl like tournaments seen here. I would go to championship matches but wearing head and body pads when i was a kid. No backspin kicks (these kicks are aimed at the head) and violations were seen as a lack of discipline and was a mark of shame on the master. As I got older full contact was the norm, but this is ridiculous. These parents should be in prison. These children are getting brain damage and concussions without realizing it. The parents are no better than the beauty pageant people. This is absolutely shameful. Kids this age should be out playing and having fun, or learning discipline in the martial arts without getting pummeled by other little kids. Please contact your state legislators and push to make this illegal. That fat promoter guy is only concerned about making money, he doesn't care about the kids. The opposite side of the spectrum is event organizers like our former grandmaster ho sung pak (not the actor) who did not allow overt violence of any form in competition. It is about discipline and reaching within to become a better person. He would have been disgusted with this brazen violence which teaches kids nothing.

***** even when we sparred at a young age we had head gear and chest and shin guards and the contact was nothing like this. Not to mention the emotional development of pushing kids to this level of violence. What about when they go to school and decide to use these skills on other kids because they're taught such aggression? More doctors and former fighters need to be put on athletic commission boards so a line can be drawn on what is physically and mentally ok and what isn't.

Ganga Din I apologize, I thought we had been talking about another sport called HBF. I am definitely against MMA for kids and even teens because it is very dangerous. HBF is different because this involves no risk for the girl (from 10 to 18) fighting. She fights against an adult male who is on his knees. The goal for him is to get her to the ground and control her. The goal for her is to kick him as many times as she can or, if she is on the ground, use grappling techniques to choke him. He can't hit but only tackle and control. She generally wears boots and in certain circumstances spurs and a riding crop. It's developing quite quickly. I think there is a similar thing for guys but am not sure.

Kids crying after losing individual events is normal. That doesn't mean they should give it up. I have seen kids cry after losing a spell off but we encourage them to try again and what about pagents? Pagents are far more damaging than any other form of individual competition I know yet it goes on. MMA for kids is fine so long as brain safety is of the utmost importance. The rest is just kids getting into sport, fitness and skill development. I played rugby when I was a kid and now my 10yr old daughter has aspirations of making the national rugby side for woman. Im going to support that all the way.

This is not good parenting whatsoever. Brain damage is a reality and I could give 11 more cases of brain damage on adults not kids who are way more fragile and you irresponsible parents would come up with ways to brush it off. In boxing amateurs use head gear and where is the head gear, plus this are kids who need a healthy brain to learn. Any judge will tell you this is wrong and in a way abuse because I bet the majority of these kids do this to please their parents. Thank you UFC and Dana White for these none sense. There is a reason WWE puts adds of kids do not try this at home I will make sure to spread this video because this is irresponsible parenting. I doubt Dana White will wanna talk about this because this helps his sport grow but in such a negative way. If he said something about how wrong the judging is in boxing how come he does not say anything about this which is so wrong.

Tony LBMontana well, like I said, I understand your concerns. all I can say is that it is a sport and statistically football is more risky. so is boxing because the thicker gloves are proven to be more damaging to the brain. these are not excuses, these are just points. I still understand your point. in my case it is a risk and I do pray to God for safety and be as safe as possible. I almost made my kid quit at one point when she was in a hospital but a doctor said "you cant keep them in a box and away from life, any kid can fall off a bike and be right here next to her." I had her out for a month and then after some prayer and thought (and alot of her crying that she wanted to fight) I put her back in. there is always the worry of injury tho, I mean she is my kid and I love her.

How can you think this isn't bad for the kids? The brain, spine or any part of their body isn't fully developed yet, and that damages the process of growing up. Multiple shots to the head every day doesn't do so much good for the kid. I personally think that there should age limit to this kind of sport (for example >16yrs olds). These kids dont get their anger or motivation to smack other people from other kids or emotions, they get theit agressive behavior from their parents and home, and that is just sad when the parents dont recognize that. No kid is born to be racist or motivated to punch/kick/grabble other people for only the pure enjoyment. Please, if some parents are seeing this comment, whose kids are into this sport, do us all a favor and pull them off from their practises and matches, of course its great that kids do sports and take good care of themselves, but It just isn't right the way it is with this sport. I'm sure I wont let my kids do this sport when they're too young to understand the dangers and cons of this sport.

do you understand what this implies? these kids are getting sub concussive trauma, and will accumulate injuries that follow them through life. playing sports other than MMA is completely different to football. in football and other sports like it, the aim is not to hurt the opponent. Kids love to fight because of the glory they feel of winning, which can be achieved through other sports. go look up injuries that happen to real MMA fighters, even though this is "light contact" which is bullshit, constant fighting will lead to injuries eventually, it is scientifically proven. as an example, Muhammad Ali now has Parkinson. even though that is not entirely compatible, the principle remains, they will have injuries after their career, and fighting at such a young age will only have such injuries manifest much sooner. they will have injuries to the body only because blows to the head aren't allowed. them moving from child fighting to real UFC fighting will be like going in to the real fights with bruised ribs, because of all of the blows sustained as a child. let the child pick for themselves at a more suitable age, like 15 or 16, whether they want to commit to this or not, but until then, train them in self defense and martial arts for the time being. as much as the parents say they don't persuade them, there is always a measure of persuasion going on from them. do not condone this, think of the future of the child and their eventual suffering, because all of this WILL catch up with them.

Dante I do completely understand where your coming from, I did Freerunning and parkour since i was 7 It caused me to sustain more injuries then these kids will. Not saying since I did it its an automatic OK lol. Only cause these fights never if rarely lead to a knockout cause these fights are stopped by a good referee rather early. Sure I understand these kids don`t all go to a doctor and see if they have a concussion everytime cause sometimes you cant tell yourself. But without facts its all opinionated from our standpoints of the sport. I Just think the best way to win Competition`s Later is to compete now, but we are not their parents that`s between them and whatever boards regulate them to fight.

This is awesome stuff! I support it 100% my son is training he's 9 in San Bernardino CA. At the " adrenaline" gym. He's no where near ready for this so with that said the kids that are here understand the discipline as well as the risk. They do as there told. They know what hurts and how to protect them selves. That insures safety. I think what that guy is really afraid of is having such well trained / talented kids on the street and soon to be powerful adults. Its fear not a safety issue , that's just a cop out. The younger the better. Will make bullies think twice that's for sure! You wont know how to use what you learn unless you use it. Better in a gym with protected support than in the street. Other countries have amazing fighters due to culture influence. They begin as children as well. So should our kids.

Tony LBMontana you have a few posts that I totally think are troll nonsense but this is actually something I agree with (not calling a guy a moron online, that's just nonsense). I agree that a kid will sell drugs if the parent tells him to. I do feel that even if the child does love something, the parent must take the responsibility for whatever the child does because it is ultimately the parents decision. I agree with the post when he says that other countries have great fighters and they start young, that is true. and I agree that these kids are awesome. but I do not agree that the kids understand the risk. my daughter is at the level of these kids and she is very smart for 11. but I would be fooling myslef if I thought she totally understood what a life of permanent paralyzation would be like and how one hard slam where her face is planted to the floor and her body weight crushes her head back to far could (God forbid) put her into a wheel chair for life. The responsabiltiy must be the adults. any safety precautions and risk are all on the adult. the child is doing what will make the adult happy (even if they also like what they do).

Rebecca H. Sometimes i troll but when it comes to something that exploids kids i get all serious. I would teach my niece self defense nothing wrong with that, but MMA has it's risks. I would not want my niece being bullied by a kid with this mentality, i would not want my niece injured, and much less hurt for life or disabled because of an out of control kick on the head. Putting a kid in this type of sport is not safe. I feel strong about art. Learning an instrument is a challenge for example, any challenge develops discipline, will, to set and meet goals, and most important of all is that it is safe for the kid. Also learning drawing, music, how to play an instrument, or painting is a skill that can stay for life and help make money. To me self defense is just training your reactions to act a certain way. A headbutt or a thumb to the eye, stepping on feet and pushing, open palm to the chin, sticking fingers on your assailant's nose is enough to buy time and even save a life if the assailant is armed and you are required to buy time and get away. If the excuse of people to teach these kids MMA is self defense, well i don't buy it for the reason i stated.
@rebeccaherbertbjj
@rebeccaherbertbjj 10 жыл бұрын
Tony LBMontana learning an instrument is not going to save you from a bully or rapist and the headbuts and thumbs (or groin kicks and pulling hair I might add) can help but they are things any none trained person can do, martial arts is more than that. I have trained my entire life and I teach and I can assure you martial arts is more than just teaching your body to react a certain way. what you are describing can be taught in a few weeks at any krav school, nothing against krav but we have many krav students in our mma school who get beat up on a regular basis. krav is great stuff but it is designed to teach a high volume of students in a very short period of time (lets say you had 500 troops and 6 months to prepare them). it is wonderful for what it was made for (just as every art is) but it is not always the best way to fight in any given situation. years of mma will make you more prepared for many more situations. a real fight is messy and anything can happen so if you rely on lets say a head butt and it fails and you have no other option after that failure you are very screwed. edit: dont get me wrong, what you are describing can save your life, krav mega can save your life, but if you try something and cant get it to work you really do need options and you need to know how to fight out of any given situation. rapes are violent and a guy will sucker punch a girl and jump on her after she is knocked down, he will normally punch her several times downward while on top of her (from inside what we call her guard) and I have to tell you that if this ever happens (God forbid, I would never wish this or anything bad on your daughter, but it happens everyday to people) and your daughter plans to headbutt or eye poke her way out of this you are going to be very sorry you trusted what you are saying here.

He will b ready for life at a younger age I think because of all the lessons he already learned that most adults have no effing idea about also he will b better prepared to handle himself if a bully witin his piers or older kid/guy is dumb enough to approach him etc!! All u weak people really need to mind ur own business and worry about ur own Family and shit and stop making Americans look bad....do wat u do and stop effing worrying about shit that doesnt involve u its not a good look and its effing GROSS!!! Keep ur kids home if u (parents) want let them play effing video games all day getting effing fat and sloppy if thats wat u want...just most of u parents have never done anything in ur effing lifes doesnt mean ur kids should b held back cause u (parents) were effing scared!!! Do u.....get a life maybe even train in MMA!!!!

My 7 year old niece takes MMA classes and she LOVES it. Some kids just have the aptitude for this. As long as this is something your kid wants to do,then support them. Would you rather them do it this way,or randomly beat up kids because they have that fighter instinct.. People damn sure don't have a problem with little kids taking karate..Um..What?? You Spar..that's fighting..

Haseeb2, this league has been around for 12 years and yes, many of these kids have already received Wrestling Scholarships, many are now professional MMA fighters and some coach their own programs. Also, in 12 years we have never had a kid seriously injured. Its easy to make a snap judgement on a 10 minute video but nothing can counter over a decade of experience, research and development.

We have numerous kids go on to wrestle at the D1 level, NAIA and JC Level. Obviously some of the higher level wrestlers stop all but wrestling once they reach high school. Two of the top high School prospects in the nation, Aaron Pico and Cade Olivas were youth Pankration fighters. Of of our younger kids in the league, Robert Perez III are National Champions in Freestyle, Greco and Freestyle . Many others are state champions and placers in wrestling.

Just because she didn't win one match at such a low level of competition doesn't mean she wasted her time. She has those skills for life now, so whenever she needs to defend herself she can or whenever she's face to face with some asshole she can use the self discipline she learnt too. Anything that teaches you life skills is never a waste of time, you'd do well to learn that.

One big difference is that in 12yrs this league has never had a kid break a bone or suffer any serious injury. The piece was sensationalized by Nightline and several comments were completely false or misleading. Andy Foster stated that "They use full contact blows to damage the other person until they win" Which is totally false and if Andy doesn't know that he should because the rules expressly prohibit attempting to injure your opponent and strikes above the collarbone are ILLEGAL.

In your defense Haseeb2, the kids in the video are actually relatively new. Nightline was not interested in featuring kids who have been in the league for 5 or 6 years. They were only interested in featuring young girls for presumed ratings and sensational appeal. The girls they featured, train hard and are off to a good start with this sport but they are also young and haven't been training as long as others.

WR3ZTL!N6 L!F3 And all you have to do is see how well Cubans turn out when they are adults to test your theory. And for girls to do this it is dangerous because they can be seriously injured. If you really want girls to test out MMA full force, you do a sport called spurd which is against a full grown man (18 and up for safety reasons) where the man is on his knees and tries to take her down to the ground. The girl can hit and kick as hard as she can (she's allowed to wear boots in the bout) to try to make the guy give up. If the guy is able to take her down to the ground before giving up from too much pain, he wins. If it's the reverse, she wins. Good training and almost no risk of physical harm to the girl. She has to be at least 10 and at most 18. Much safer than MMA and good training.

I personally think it's good that kids are learning to take care of themselves in a constructive manner, rather than learning it in an unstructured, unruly manner. I do however think that 5 is too young, you can't even start learning Karate at some places until you're 8. Maybe they shouldn't be allowed to compete in tournaments until they're a bit older. Or maybe they should only be able to use grapples. Either way, I don't think kids should be banned from doing this, I think it's a good thing that they can release stress and energy in this way.
