This version is haunting on an entirely different level from Casablancas' vocals -- this feels like the end of a love story, when you're watching their car turn around the corner at the end of your street. It's fall, and you can smell the leaves in the air. You'll squint after them until they've passed out of view, and then you'll turn around and head back indoors.

This is my favorite song from the unpeeled album - I couldn't believe one of my favorite bands was covering one of my favorite daft punk songs. It's like the anti-version of the original, really emphasizing the melancholy and reserved sadness/anger these lyrics have. When he sings "I listened to your problems, now listen to mine" its almost a rageful plea to be heard, to be understood. For the one he loves to love him back like he loves him. I come back to this version all the time - reminds me of a very important relationship in my life, and the feelings I had for him that I couldn't quite describe until I heard this song. Fucking love this band, and thankful for what they bring to music

It's always tricky to do a cover. On Cage The Elephant's Unpeeled they do three. This one from Daft Punk is amazing. This week I also listened to their cover of Whole Wide World by Wreckless Eric. The singing together, the energy when the drumming starts, Matthew Schultz dancing on stage like Mick Jagger. Sublime. I reviewed the album and watched parts of their live performance. A band in great condition with so much tremendous songs. Rough on Shake Me Down versus calm on Flow. The touching Cigarette Dreams against stuck-in-the-head tracks as Come A Litte Closer, Trouble and Cold, Cold, Cold. Four different albums, but all so good. I love this band.

Wow, I didn't realize he could sing that low. Surprising that he took it down there, since the original is set pretty high. As for those high notes, I wonder who sang them-- I didn't see any backup singers. The instrumentation on this was beautiful. Every stringed piece came through.
@DoubleOJavi3 жыл бұрын
After watching so much recently, my only conclusion is that the guy who sings back ups while playing the xylophone uses a echo/reverb effect during that high pitch note section toward the end, one of the reason (I think) they show the guitarist looking to his left and smiling for like 2 seconds around 3:51 of the video.
@leavingitblank93633 жыл бұрын
@@DoubleOJavi I think the xylophone player is too far in the back for the guitarist to be looking at him; he keeps looking to his left throughout, possibly to check rhythm with the guitarist to his left? Could be though that the xylophone guy is singing-- it looks like he might have a mic, but it's too blurry to see his mouth.

I think all versions of this song really show how amazing the song is and the incredible talent of Julian Casablancas and Daft Punk. If a song is good in one version, it will likely be good in another great artist’s hands. Amazing.

this is a cover but it even looks like it was the original version. I love these arrangements with stringed instruments and the choir good job

You can understand the lyrics in the original Daft Punk version too. It's not hard if you aren't stupid.

so turns out that not understanding one's singing means I'm stupid. Had I known...

I think the original is way better than this. The vocals are more interesting (and sound much better) and the instrumentals are especially better.

I never knew the original, and I just listened to Daft Punk's version, honestly Cage the Elephant's version sounds so much better to me.

@@kroilito There're plenty of examples of stupidity besides book smarts. Most lack knowledge of common sense. You might have been sarcastic and or hearing impaired haha

This is still my favourite version, because it all started here.
