Brilliant! As a drummer (but also a frustrated guitarist) of 40 years +, I've asked guitarists in bands I've been in, over the years, for tips on how to play. They all said "learn the caged system, Micky", but never showed me (I put this down to fear of me turning out a better player) but now it's been explained perfectly, even a drummer understands it. This left me with more questions than answers, but I've only been playing for a couple of years so maybe that's why. Also I found the upside down neck very disorienting. Don't get me wrong, I can see that this is useful, it's just too much for a beginner I think.

since i don't read music, i don't know tabs, what I REALLY want to learn is how to make chords that help improve my progressions when writing new songs. how can I make a nice, interesting chord change by adding or removing a finger in a chord. how can I change the path of the song, the feeling, to another direction. maybe slightly change the key...or hell, yes...change the key for the middle!

Study the circle of fifths, it will help you come up with interesting chord progressions.

So a C is a C, an A is a C, a G is a C, an E is a C and a D is a C. that is not confusing in the slightest. Why not just use the conventional C ? Glad this is not confusing and you are making total sense. 🤦‍♂🤦‍♂🤦‍♂🤦‍♂
