This is the type of song that gives you a deep feeling in your heart, almost like nostalgia or some type of regret maybe even happiness. I've always liked this band I'm a 64 year old man. I just get tired when I hear people my age saying there's no good music out there and I keep telling them there is if you look for it. You're so much of it out there music is good you're never too old to love good music. And I just like to style the song it's really laid-back.

@@phoenixgirl70 Each year becomes a smaller percentage of your life. 20% of your life at 5 is only 2% of your life at 50. So your perception is that it went faster when you look back. That's because your reference or basis for what time seems to be, is the sum of your experienced time. I don't think it seems to pass more quickly in the moment. Only retrospectively. The upside to this is that if there's something I'm not looking forward to, I'll look in the mirror and remind myself that I'll be back home before I know it. Sure enough, I'm soon looking at myself again. As if the memories of the day were planted there and I had never moved.

This song describes and gives the feeling of being 17 so accurately. Something about being 17 is so scary to me. You have only one year left of being a “child” yet you still have so much to learn. Soon you will be graduating high school and will never be a little kid again. Your life flashes before your eyes and the sudden rush of anxiety and despair you feel once you hit this age is unexplainably heartbreaking. You can’t go back to your childhood and do things differently after clearly seeing what you should’ve done differently. You don’t even know how to be an adult or what you are going to be doing with your life.. will you stay in this mess for the rest of your life.. or if not.. will you will even be able to make a name for yourself and be able to be looked upon by society as something valuable just because of your job title and your salary? You think, did I do enough? Did I waste all of my time fixating on things that doesn’t matter? Will I ever make it out of this rut that I’m in? It’s sad that we all have to think this way in this messed up world that we live in. I’ve never felt so understood by a song. This song hurts.. especially when your 17 and looking for the answers.

I remember sitting on a bench in my quiet town, cold beginnings of winter hitting me- I never liked the cold- and the clock hit 12:00AM..I cried for the first time in a long time, in the turn to my 18th birthday. This song blared in coincidence in my friend's car as she pulled up to the brick walk way where I sat. I'll never forget that moment. It started sleet-raining and she took me on a drive to cheer me up. As this song went on I sang it loud and proud like the fun idiot I could still be back then, and my friend who was easily annoyed by 'radio music' jammed and sang along with me in time for the @3:00 mark... I bought my "first" pack of cigs-- and the clerk didn't even card me, just that one time, of course. We both knew I was about to be left out in the cold from friends and family alike, I'd probably become homeless in due time thanks to my failing health, and life would only get more difficult from there. True nihilists at heart. One day we both lit cigarettes and just sat in silence, overlooking our usual spot over at the river dam. Eventually she left, too. This song always gives me bittersweet feelings. I never got to feel like a kid, be a kid, have a 'normal childhood'; but, even now I do miss those days for what they were.

I agree. I realized a few days ago while listening to it on my iPod that the reason the piano here sounds so fitting is because it's used in the background of the chorus. Listen for it. It's pretty nice, because if you just sort of listen to the song but don't tear it apart too much (or just randomly realize it like I did), it just seems 'right'. i started listening to this song when i was 16. ive always been told i’ve been mature for my age growing up, due to a lot of abuse i endured. the year i was 16 was one of the worst years of my life. i talked my father out of committing su!c!de, twice, which was incredibly traumatizing for me at the time. i struggled heavily with depression, to the point where i contemplated my own life at one point. i spent hours staring out my bedroom window when it rained, and have a vivid memory of just standing in the rain crying for something to pull me out of my pain. i fell behind in school after being an honours student, and missed close to over 100 days of school. this song truly did save me. i happened to be playing my spotify on a random shuffle which is what led to me finding this song. i think this song had such an emotional toll on me because the lyrics resonated with me so well. here i am, now 17, coming back to this song as my dad is in the hospital, nearing his death bed. i feel this song will stick with me for the rest of my life. thank you cte ❤

Can you explain the video to me, I don't really get it, like that part with the cop
@marshallwilkos758910 жыл бұрын
imaboss7277 Well also, art is subjective and anything that comes to mind is a great thing in itself. I personally think of innocence lost and this particular character is going through a troublesome time because she is lost and taking it out on herself and others (the fence/being caged in&the trunk scene at the end). I think Matt/Brad/Daniel/Jared function as death and life in the sense of being there to calm her fears and ours through music. Yet, because Matt embraces her at the end, its also like their music is able to help us along and sort through the bad to find the good? I don't know, its off the rails and not a 'perfect' analysis because art doesn't have to be perfect. The cop thing? Not sure, could be getting stopped along the way, but also recognizing systematic pressures exist, yet not succumbing to them completely. Only watched it once so far, but I like the introduction; so much different imagery. Also the expressions from the band's faces are incredible---searching for answers.

To me it is about freeing yourself from the past and allowing yourself to be loved. Sometimes we can be hard on ourselves and don't think we are worthy of love and therefore destroy a good thing. If rather, we can destroy that negative part of ourselves we thereby let go of what is holding us back and have a shot at truly being happy. It is a hard thing to do though bc love requires vulnerability. Great video :)

I just... I just don't have words to describe this song. Amazing. Perfect. No, more than perfect. Magical, it's the song for dreaming, laughing, sleeping, or just passing the time. I'm totally in love with that, I fall deep in love with this beautiful piece of art, and I can't stop listen it, I can't, it's impossible.

First time I listened to Cage the Elephant was live at a music festival last year. I was waiting close to front row waiting for another act on the same stage. I heard their name and I was a little skeptical on how good they would be. They put on a great show and have been listening to them since them.

This song has been my favorite song for years, has changed my life in many ways. I turn 17 in a little less than a month and Cigarette Daydreams will be the theme of my party 😊

I recently said to someone that people made it through the 90's because of heartfelt songs like this (referring to a lot of 90's alternative) that hit everyone and because it was on the radio you knew it. That we all might feel this way sometimes when coming of age and feeling incredibly overwhelmed and there's a small tad bit of solace when you can smile and listen to a song like this.To just feel the wind, get off your damn phone, smile at someone and know that we all fight a hard battle.

I feel like this song is about depression and contemplating your life over a cigarette and I for one have taken smoke breaks in the rain. When you see someone smoking a cigarette their not focused on getting nicotine they are trying to relax and catch a break so they can think. Cigarettes are not the answer that's why I like the theme of searching for it. Reminiscing back to simple highschool and or college times when we thought we had it all figured out because we truly lived for the present and not the future now in the real world we have to live in the present worrying about the future while looking back at our past like we were two people holding hands and just let go.

Ian S this song is about his wife. When he first saw her, she was France and he tried to kiss her and she refused.

Well way to interpret it literally. The chorus doesn't directly rate to anything so that can still be metaphorically contemplated as I was saying but cool to know its about a special woman I didn't get that from the video at all.

Imagine when all the people in this comment section grow old and we all gradually look back to this video and either see all our old comments or see others comments from years ago. My girlfriend got sent to a mental rehabilitation center a couple days ago. This song reminds me of her so much. I know she’s feeling pain deep inside, and I know no matter what I do won’t help. I see it in her eyes. I hope she can get the help she needs because she deserves it. She deserves the world and some more.

Ah. I love reading people’s comments about how much this song means to them and how this song was there for them at moments of their lives. This song was the first song I heard from them, it was while I had my first break up from my first love. It was painful and I felt alone and I was just, confused? But hearing this song some how brought comfort and I felt better. It’s not thing big probably, but it helped me a lot during that time. I finally saw them this past summer and I remember not seeing this song on the set list, I was a little upset but was still excited to see them. Half way through their set list, guess what starts to play??? Yeah. Cigarette Daydreams. And I lost it. I cried so much. It was beautiful. I will never forget it.
