This is great. I love hearing old comic book stories. my journey started in the early 1960s. Looking through collections back then, was a little different.

What a great story. Can't think of a better comic book in that time to start your adventure into comic book collecting. I hope Gary was able to complete that Detective run!

Hi, Raph. Agree. It's so cool. A kid reads a few golden age books when he's really young and then his first purchase would later be known as the first silver-age book. Thanks for the comment.

I first met Gary at the San Diego Comic Con sometime time in the later 80’s. His advice helped me get back into comic collecting. I was an avid subscriber to the Comic Book Marketplace. Thank you, Gary, for all you have done for the hobby. Thanks Keston for the interviews. Excellent channel and content.

Thanks, Chris. Awesome. It's cool to hear about the connections. I'm hopeful folks like Gary can help elevate the comic book content on KZbin. Much more information out there but the quality doesn't stand up to CBM.

I wrote for Gary and Lisa's Comic Book Marketplace for quite a while and always found them to be absolutely lovely people! I remember my time with CBM with the fondest of memories. A hugely grateful and sincere hello to Gary and Lisa from Shawn Hamilton!

Glad to see another 10 cent kid. My place was a stationary store or a Farmers Market with 1940s comics.

Great to see Gary Carter doing well and still telling amazing comic book stories. His Comic Book Marketplace had such a huge influence on my comic book collecting back in the pre-internet days. Along with CBG, I looked forward to CBM and devoured each issue. It was a great time to be collecting comics since many things were still relatively affordable.

Thanks, Andrew! I was fortunate enough to get him on the show. Ben Labanog introduced me to Gary. A very exciting time, indeed. The hobby was really coming into its own. I hope you grabbed as many good books when you could back in the '90s.

That's so awesome! Being born in such a late era, I never really fully got to experience the joy of comic books early on. Only until a year ago I started realizing how awesome these comic books can be! And to hear this from someone born in an era when these books were just around their prime is even cooler!

Totally agree, Kid Comics! You may enjoy this interview with Matt Nelson too. It's a great story of old school collecting and it connects with Gary. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpOpc595ZtiJeM0.

Wow, I love your story about the flash. What a great pick up.!!!!! anyway, my first to Comic Books was fantastic four 55 with the Silver surfer on the cover and amazing Spider-Man 41 with the rhino. Who would have thought Comic Books would be worth big money nowadays. The comicon in New York and San Diego is bigger than the Super Bowl.. that’s very funny I was in the restaurant business I don’t work anymore and one of my good stories is about 15 years ago I picked up amazing fantasy 15 6.0 at the New York comic con no marvel chipping for $4000.. now you take today’s market Go Collect has the fair market value $76,000 but I was offered recently $100,000 but I’m not selling it. Presents much better than 6.0.

HI, Robert! Thanks for sharing your stories. Those are two great books. Congrats on the AF 15 acquisition. Your timing was great. I was the under-bidder on an AF 15, 6.0 in 2012 or 2013. I bid 20k and it went for $20,500 or $21k....whatever the next bid increment was. I own a 3.5 these days. Cool book!

Hi, AJ. Thanks for the comment, and I appreciate your being a fan of the channel. Gary may not be everybody's cup of tea. I admire him because of his passion for the hobby, his incredible collection, and his contributions to building the hobby. For example, many of the DCs photographed in the Gerber photo-guide are his book. He and perhaps 10 others set up the collecting infrastructure that we enjoy today. I do have a couple more Gary videos coming but will release a couple of Keston-focused videos first :-)
