Beautiful dog. Good natured. But, I didn’t understand the purpose of hand stripping. Nor did I understand the equipment you use.

What are the tools you used?

Great video! A very good boy you worked on here! My cairn is already 9 years old and she didn't tolerate hand stripping with the groomer (I wish I'd started her when she was young) so I'm going to try to do a full job myself. I have a Mars Coat King rake already, but am not sure what kind of stripping knife to get. Mars has several varieties: fine slant tooth, coarse slant tooth, coarse for terriers, medium slant tooth. I'm assuming the coarse for terriers should be the one to get?

I would think so too, but I prefer working with the stripping stone. Have fun and try some tools!

@@gabbyspetspaw Thanks for the reply! I'll get both a stripping knife and a stone then. Figure I might as well try different things to see what works best with my dog. I'll have to get blending shears as well.

Sorry but, If the coat is dirty then the dogs can get a skin condition called Furunculosis. It is strongly advised not to strip a dirty coat ! Wash the coast using strip shampoo and use chalk etc for finger condoms for grip

Nice video. I'm getting a puppy soon. I see her every day, my sister's cairn terrier had pups and my birthday present was one of them. Almost 5 weeks they are now. Totally cute and very exciting. When is the first time they need a trim?
@gabbyspetspaw3 жыл бұрын
Congratulations and happy birthday!! I would introduce her to grooming right away to get her used to it. I think around 12 weeks, but the vet will tell you for sure when.

I can't tell what you are doing, it's too fast. Is he supposed to look like he's got the mange when you're done?
@gabbyspetspaw2 жыл бұрын
He is brindle, that’s why he looks like that. And it is fast because the whole video would take like 3 hours.
@Josef_R2 жыл бұрын
@@gabbyspetspaw oh, so the light brown patches are still fur? I thought it was his skin. It wouldn't take 3 hours to show 1 minute's worth of it in real time.
@gabbyspetspaw2 жыл бұрын
@@Josef_R yes all that color is his fur. I’m sorry you could not see the technique very well on the video. I’ll try to show more of it next time.

@@gabbyspetspaw I've always shaved my previous Cairns 3 times a year because it gets to 100 degrees here, and they still have a beautiful, super soft coat. But I was considering stripping on my new one because his coarse hair is pretty amazing, but I can't find any videos that actually show how. I pull on my boys hair and nothing comes out, so I don't get it.
@gabbyspetspaw2 жыл бұрын
@@Josef_R if you have been shaving then for that long is rare to strip them. But on a new coat you can. Have you tried talking to a groomer in your area? Maybe they can teach you. Where are you located?
