For drinking whisky first hold it at waist height and sniff the aroma; the do the same at chest height and at your nose swilling it at the same time. Then take the tiniest sip and swill it in your mouth before swallowing. Different whiskies will touch different parts of the palate eg front of mouth, back of mouth, tongue etc. The initial and after taste will be different. A drop of water is optional and can release the flavour. Start with lowland, then Speyside, then island whiskies. Maybe go to a tasting experience somewhere like the Whisky experience in Edinburgh or at at Duchally Hotel in Perthshire. We enjoy your videos. Graham and Garry

My favourite whisky is The Balvennie 14. It’s not too harsh or peaty. I’m more of a rum drinker than whisky and this one has a rum finish to it as they use rum barrels.

Just ice for me, I like Lagavulin 16 Year Old, or Glenfiddoch 18 year old is nice too. North East is my back garden! You should both come back for the Braemar Highland Games, first Saturday in September each year. It's a great day out, but it's very busy. King Charles usually rocks up. Ballater cart park behind the church is a nice park up too, toilets and a wee walk to the pub. Crathes castle is worth a look, you can park up in a little car park other side of the main road. Nice and quiet. Then you have the coastal villages. Stonehaven, park up next to the outdoor pool, good fish and chips, nice pub at the harbour. Cruden Bay, park at the harbour, great beach for the dogs. Bar super at the Killy Arms. Then up to Pennan/Crovie/Gardenstown. Picturesque. Portsoy old harbour. Cullen ice cream. Up to Findhorn, community campervan park, great place too. The list goes on and on....... .Keep the videos coming. All the best

Firstly mate , you need the right glass for the dram it can be either drunk with a little water or a single rock of ice as it will produce different flavours of personly, prefer the ice but each to there own , but most importantly is getting the glass right , ie a glencairn glass is a good one , then decide if your blended or a malt , most bended will taste really peaty as can some single malts, glenmorangie signet is a nice flavour chocolate infused or their lasanta, is nice too just a couple to recommend as i like most whiskys 😂 it may take you a while to find the one you like but those too are a good start point

I taught myself to like whiskey. Now it’s my absolute favourite but when I started it all tasted the same and just burnt. I used water quite generously at first then slowly had less water until now I can enjoy it neat, or with a single cube of ice. Favourite is Bunnhabain but I often buy any speyside which is on sale. Steer clear of peated whiskey until you’re a pro 💪🏼👊🏼 don’t give up.

Hi Chris loving the videos, Scotland and the Hebrides is our favourite and your books have been a great help. Just seen that you used a quilt to lessen all the noise from the back of the van when Travelling. My wife and I mentioned this to you at the NEC as you pointed out. What we were saying was to drop a quilt or like us one of those Polar style throws tucked at the edge of the bed and dropped down behind the back of your cab seats. Just tuck it in between the frame and mattress this helps block the noise out quite a bit, also great for keeping the heat in the cab in winter and cool when you need the air con on in Summer.

If you have a blue badge, which I do, just drive up to the entrance gate. Only campervan or cars though. The staff at the gate will tell you where you can park inside the grounds near the back of the mews. I like Highland Park whisky, but then I'm biased because I live within a mile of where it's made, otherwise I enjoy Talisker from Skye.

Re malts, Kilchoman, from Islay, is one of my current favourites and Scapa, from Orkney, goes down smoothly too. Generally, Speyside malts are fairly easy going, so Glenlivet and Macallan wouldn't make you cough. It's not sacrilege to add water to your whisky.

Re whisky - everyone’s taste buds are different. How do you like your coffee? Do you like it sweet? Or Black? Or milky? Based on your answer I would then recommend a whisky to try. The island whisky’s tend to be quite peaty or smoky tasting and can be hard going. I would recommend a smooth Spey side single malt maybe, like a Balvennie or a Dalmore (highland)

Hi Chris, I've been following your new adventures in the MH. I, like you, hate rattles, squeaks, etc and do love a bit of foam tape, gorilla tape, double sided tape and insulation tape. What you could do for panels you do need access to, is to use velcro tape for some things like access to your bed motor, it does work well. Point 2, I love whiskey and as the saying goes, there is a whiskey for everyone. A nice every day one is Jura 10yo or Jura Journey as someone else has suggested. I can also recommend Bunnahabhain and singleton. Maybe buy a book on whiskey as you can focus on getting whiskeys containing flavours you like. You will find something 👍

Whisky: very subjective which is good! However, I drink it regularly now, but I hadn't drunk any till I was 30, then I was introduced to a lovely single malt and was hooked. I recommend trying an easy drinking whisky like an Ardbeg or Macalan. Add a splash of water, perhaps 50% of the whisky. Pick a cold night while sitting next to a roaring fire ideally, or next to your van heater...

Try GlenLivet French Oak. This has a slightly sweet taste. Also you can park overnight for £12 (£12 for 24 hrs I think) at the GlenLivet Mountain Bike Centre. It is near to Tomintoul. There are 24 hr toilets and drinking water, so great for your off grid setup. As for the best Whisky I’ve drank. Edradour 10 year old, or GlenFarclas 105. But the GlenLivet French oak is pretty good too.

Loving the videos! Regarding whisky, I prefer the smoother less harsh variety so usually go with something like an Aberlour Casg Annamh Speyside Single Malt, or just the single malt Aberlour 12yr old double cask matured. A Macallan 12yr old double cask is lovely too. Maybe try a sherry cask whisky to take the edge off. I’m not a fan of the ‘peaty’ variety which can sometimes taste like TCP!

For the whisky - I would start lowland (Glenkinchie / Bladnoch) then work up to low highlands (Aberfeldy / Glenturret) into Speysides, then more into the highland then peaty stuff. Me, I'm either lowlands or Speysides.

Make a long drink with the whiskey, add a measure in a tall tumbler and fill with water and as you get used to the taste you can reduce the amount of water to suite your taste buds, I’m a Baileys lover and have never been able to drink whisky but I ride it as a tall drink recently and it was drinkable ish 😂 good luck don’t give up 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Haha, you remind me of me, when I wanted to "enjoy" whisky all them years back 🤣. As the years progress you will end up enjoying the taste but always mix with some water (or ice) as it will bring out the flavour and cut down the harshness making it more mellow taste. Effectively you are drinking a concentrate that needs diluting before use so it's going to be far too strong taken neat lol. The amount of water varies depending on taste. Some dedicated whisky drinkers say a few droplets is enough to bring out the flavour. Personally we both like a half measure of water to one measure of whisky, we've tried all types, the peaty ones are like drinking with your face in a BBQ! not for us, some of the super strong looks good on paper but are just too strong, these days we rather like one of the cheaper brands, Grouse Whisky, mixed with some water, makes a nice evening tipple to sip and enjoy.

For whisky, slightly warm your glass first. Tip a small amount of whisky in the glass and swirl it around. This warms the aromatics, which you will notice on the first taste. Take a small nip and move it around the mouth. Coat all of your tongue and then spit it out. Take the glass outside and empty it down the drain. That's the best way to enjoy whisky. Then go buy a decent bottle if brandy and enjoy.😮

The best whisky, regardless of brand, is when drunk, when you’re wet, freezing cold & P-off. Hence many a soldier, for past or present, drunk it, before engaging in brutal combat, numb to the cold & numb to the killing, be it a Highlander or Red Coat, or the modern British Army.

From a Scotsman: breathe out when you drink the whiskey! 😂 Cardhu 18 yr old single malt is supposed to be smooth with a chocolatey taste, so you may like that one. Don’t add water to it, that just dilutes it but does not change the taste. Add Irn Bru to it for a rusty nail cocktail! Finish that bottle off as a hot toddy: add hot water & honey to the whiskey.
