We must cease the incessant comparisons with the NBA as they are unproductive. Instead, let's address the crux of the matter: the league itself. Consider this: the WNBA Finals garnered 700K viewers, while the NCAA finals between Iowa and South Carolina peaked at a staggering 24 MILLION, with an average of 18 MILLION viewers. This glaring contrast begs the question: what is the real issue at hand? It's evident that the WNBA desperately needs a makeover in its image and brand perception. Too often, players resort to brash remarks in interviews, criticizing league salaries offering constructive solutions. There's a pressing need for expansion, a more robust marketing strategy focusing on the league's stars, and comprehensive PR training for players. The priority should be laser-focused on basketball, ensuring the product's quality and appeal. Taking a stance on societal issues is important, but the WNBA currently lacks the necessary leverage to effect meaningful change. Unlike the NBA, which spent decades fortifying its image before diving into social advocacy, the WNBA is in a nascent stage. This is a pivotal moment for women's basketball, with unprecedented opportunities for growth. Failure to capitalize on this moment could set the league back significantly, relegating it to a cycle of seeking attention rather than highlighting the quality of its product.

The only people who like to listen to people whine like liberals are liberals. One of the problems of the WNBA IS political whining : stick to commenting on the sport. Cognitive reflex is to turn the channel away from someone you're used to hearing whine.

@@calibearplayer3398They don’t understand that the way that happens (getting more money) is by the league becoming more profitable (or profitable at all). And the way it can possibly become more profitable is if they push girls like Caitlin, JuJu, Angel, etc. and creating something that fans will want to watch. To put it simply, they need the same people that watched the women’s ncaa tournament to watch the wnba. But these girls that are already in the wnba are letting their jealousy cloud their judgement. But it wouldn’t be the first time they brushed off something that could’ve helped their league. Remember when multiple nba players suggested they lower the hoop so that they could start dunking, and the wnba players shot it down? Same type of thing here. They’re their own worst enemy.

screen cap this in 15 years, she will have captured 3 WNBA rings and have won multiple (at least 2) MVP's and perhaps 1x DPOY award as well. Calling it now, she will finish her pro career as a top 5 all time to ever play the game in women's ball. She will live up to the hype, and even potentially and some. Her shooting is that good. You guys have to remember, she is only going to get better as she develops her game. She won't slow down until her late 20's, and she's already entering the league as a solid contributor. I have high hopes, barring any set backs like injuries or personal motivations which based on her personality she is very driven and competitive and has a great family support system.

😂 you think the wnba is lasting another 15 years. Oh that's a good one. @@adnanomeragic9597 they have only survived because the NBA is footing the bill. They lose on average 10 million a year. And they want better flights and pay that will more then double those loses. When the last TV deal was signed they were angry thinking they left potential money on the table because they were signed as a packaged deal with the nba. When they would never get a deal with any major networks with how bad the product is to watch. If the NBA stopped backing the league and let them fend for themselves(even giving them a clean slate pre say on their existing debts) they would not last. It's the same thing that has shuttered the spring football leagues. They might have one or two teams with pockets deep enough to survive, but not enough teams in the league to rough it out.

I think there are two things going on here. The WNBA was on the rise before CC, but now she's being attached to the narrative of its rise, when in reality the rise has more to do with the massive rise in sports gambling. There just isn't enough men's professional sports to satiate the gaming industry. The media is generating a lot of this beef to drum up interest and keep people gambling, when the reality is that beefs happen all the time, but suddenly now everyone is interested because of this new play the media has told you to be interested in, and "the black lesbians are jealous of the pretty straight white girl." I don't know if they actually are jealous, but its not different from oldheads in the NBA resenting the new talent making more than them, I'd be pissed too if I was making $200K a year and suddenly there were dudes getting $100 million contracts.

Tell em they had their chance and now they can continue to make more than they deserve as far as entertainment value.

They better not do that young lady like that. They should embrace that girl. They know they down bad and wrong if they don’t. She young, talented and doing right and she finished college. We can’t afford to do our young people that are out here doing right like that. We got to help them and encourage them.

Let's get to the facts using an actual supreme basketball talent. Michael Jeffrey Jordan. Ms. Clark is bringing eyes to the game, but why? What is she doing that is so spectacular? People that actually watch women's basketball see good talent. Diana Taurasi, Sheryl Swoopes or Cheryl Miller type talent, no. Ms. Clark broke the men's and women's scoring record at the college level. That includes what Mr. Jordan scored at UNC. But it's not playing ability that we can compare Mr. Jordan and Ms. Clark but attention and popularity. The big accolade for Ms. Clark is not her performance on the court as a pro, but the attention she brings from the amateur ranks to the pro ranks. The very tops in basketball popularity in the world in the past 30 years is Mr. Jordan. When Mr. Jordan came out of retirement and signed with the Washington Wizard's he had a known body of work in professional basketball, having won six NBA titles. Mr. Jordan is the reason the Wizards sold out home games for three seasons. His popularity was unmatched. Yet, with all the increased eyes on the Wizard's and more money coming in via ticket sales, Washington never won a playoff game with Mr. Jordan. Jordan was the biggest name in basketball. But the popularity didn't change anything on the court for the Wizards. People are citing popularity of Ms. Clark, not realizing her talent level doesn't yet match the perceived greatness that was afforded to her in college. The NBA comparison is Victor Wembanyama. Most people expect him to be an exceptional talent in a few years. No one is expecting him to outclass, Jayson Tatum, Luka Doncic or Kevin Durant in his rookie year and make San Antonio a title contender as a rookie or even enxt year. But somehow people under estimate WNBA talent and expect a potential title run, or close to it, from a player that never won an NCAA title. Breanna Stewart came into the league with four NCAA titles. So the reality is people are expecting way too much from a rookie and using the comparison with one of the best and another rookie with more potential clearly highlights the expectations are not realistic. Let Ms. Clark learn and grow. The Media hype and popularity is not going to change reality on the court any more than it changed Mr. Jordan's chances of winning titles at Washington. But with Ms. Clark, there is time for growth and experience. And that is gained over time with hard work, not with excitement or imagination. The only thing Ms. Clark has exposed is US misogyny in women sports. Many of the same thiings that the women's US Soccer team has expressed and many of the same thing that other established WNBA players have already expressed. Why people chose to only listen or watch after Ms. Clark is not the fault of Ms. Clark or other's that came before her with greater skill. It just reflects the priorities of media and the general US public.

Inability to Discuss Reality (Distinctive Cultural Aspect #1 + Distinctive Cultural Aspect #2) + Lack of Awareness + Unrealistic Expectations + Jealousy = Failed Business Model. Caitlin Clark won't be the one to turn this around as they will freeze her out socially and literally. This situation is no different than when Mark Eaton (GRHS) said that Michael Jordan would never be able to carry a team.... He was right, but MJ could lead a team, and he did... I wish Caitlin the best of luck working with DCA#1 and DCA#2 .

To Briana Stewart: Assuming the rest of the rosters are equal between say, South Carolina and Iowa, you would have a point. Clark would need to have a championship ring. However, that is not the proper assumption. Your UConn attitude is showing.

Honestly I’ve come all the way around and realized this reaction by the players is good for Clark. She needs a heel for the entertainment value to stay high since so few players are as good as her. The whole league is her heel right now. There’s gonna be a quote from every team she faces that makes it worth tuning in to see her make them eat their words

Breanna Stewart is jelly because she’s supposed to be the best player in the league currently, yet she’s getting no love because, let’s be real, she looks like Steve Buscemi, and she’s also a post player. Meanwhile you got Caitlin, who’s out here breaking ankles and raining threes, and she’s got the whole wholesome girl next door thing on top of that. She’s got IT. You either have it or you don’t.

There would probably not be a market for a second guy's league that played in the summer. Having a women's league at the same time and expecting it to succeed is confusing. Maybe I'm missing something. Katilyn has played during basketball season. I don't think her playing in the summer is going to draw people away from baseball and other summer activities.

She's literally the exact lifeline the WNBA has needed for decades and the moment she gets into the league she's treated with nothing but contempt and jealousy. Seems like the main reasons the WNBA has never had success is because of boring games and extremely oblivious but entitled players.

As great as C. Clark is, her star power is only he scoring ability. At the college level she was not able to win a chip. She lost the times she got there. But nobody is mentioning that. But I must say, the wnba players are fighting against C. Clark who if they stand behind her they can break bank.

What a load of crap. Caitlin Clark is the "savior" of the WNBA? Based on what, the attendance of a single game she played in and LOST? The false claim that she's scored more points than any other woman college player? She has the "potential" to save the WNBA? She's just a very good player who the media has turned her into a great white savior. IF she and the Fever transform into the best team in the league and win the WNBA Championship she will deserve some credit, but that has yet to happen and nothing in her past suggests she can win a championship game in the clutch.

If you practice throwing the ball from half court for 15 years, you should be a good 3 point shooter. But the real players can go to the Hole. The difference in Curry is, he can go to the hole, and play Defense. She can do neither. She’s a basic touch and throw player. She’s Soft!

Like Taylor Swift always say “ haters gonna hate, hate, hate. I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake. Shake it off, shake it off” the same can be applied to Caitlin Clark. The WNBA, the women who are in it, and the entire league may hate her, she’s just gonna shake all that hate off. She should enter the league with that type of attitude, that they can’t get under her thick skin or try to throw her off of her game. Just give her 4 or 5 years, then she will win a championship.
