My granddaughter was decompressed at 18 months. She went from crawling in circles and walking with assistance to almost running 2 days after surgery. She's 10 now and the happiest little girl around.

22 millimeters is the part that gets me. If that’s the actual number then girl no wonder you were in pain. I can’t even wrap my head around how excruciating that had to have been and as a child who didn’t really know any better 😢 I’m so glad you were eventually able to get help and are doing better.

Actually the severity of symptoms really has nothing to do with amount of mm or CM my son was decompressed at 10 years old. I can't remember how many CM his was. But after he fully healed from surgery he had no restrictions. We specifically asked about roller coasters and sports and he said there were no restrictions. My son lived until he was 17 with no more headaches. Unfortunately he passed away from cancer.

My mom has the exact same thing, and she was told multiple times that it was all in her head. She eventually got diagnosed with chiari, but never got the decompression surgery untill just a few years ago, after she started to get numbness in her hands and legs, to the point that her legs would become paralyzed temporarily. Glad to see your parents so supportive of what you went through though! Glad you’re doing better!

I get it... I have a problem in my knees (my tibia is basically attached outwards instead of the middle of the knee) and the doctors always told me for years that "It's normal for kids", and that "it will get better with the years", cut to me now with my knees forever in pain, never going to get back by themselves, all the doctors now telling me I should've used a medical boot to keep them in place, and now the only way to put them to place is open my knee and force them to place with titanium bars...

I had a different type of brain malformation and also had to have brain surgery about a year and a half ago. One of my doctors told me my almost daily headaches were just due to stress and that I was fine. A year later I had a seizure and found out I was, in fact, not fine. I had surgery a year after that. However, now I am much better! I am glad you're better now, too!

Your surgery was 4 months before mine for the exact same thing. It's so crazy to see almost replicated what i went through from no one believing the pain to finally getting to my surgeon who asked for an MRI. I was 17 when i was diagnosed the year before. I had a pain nurse that tried to get me to meditate through the pain lol. So glad you found a doctor that listened to you!

I love this little seres. I had the exact same story. Severe migraines, my parents and doctors thinking I was making it up, multiple tests showing nothing and then finally an MRI showing a Chiari malformation. Only my parents are doctors didn't believe me until I was 18. The same decompression surgery, and the same experience with that morphine button. Chiari malformations can result in sever paralysis. I'm glad they found it and got you back to your living your life.
