My favorite budgeting tip is to do an end-of-month reflection on what you spent and why. I feel like it really helps to take the time and journal about your spending so that you don't immediately feel guilty. Instead, reflecting allows you to work through your feelings about spending in a healthy way and thoroughly review your purchases. It's helped me a lot mentally because now I don't immediately get anxious over how much money I spent each month because I gave myself time to reflect on why I spent that money and how the purchase made me feel.

One of my best tips when I was on a lower income whilst studying and trying to pay off some debt was to set up some extra accounts with a different bank (no fee ones!) for my long-term savings and for money I took out of my income for rent, short term expenses (eg monthly gym membership; haircuts; car insurance) and longer term expenses like a trip to the dentist; car service; car registration etc. Having money aside for the longer term expenses in particular really helped and bills didn’t sneak up on me! I estimated both my monthly and yearly expenses, divided that number by how many weeks were in a year and put aside some money each week.

Excellent tips! We did the 'take a look at your current habits' and found we were spending heaps (way more than we ever imagined) at the grocery store. Setting an amount we wanted to spend and switching to cash helped enormously. Then along came COVID (many stores don't take cash)...we have to get back to tracking grocery store expenditures. They add up fast!

Love that you made chapters in your video! That's really helpful for when I look back on it :) ✌️ My main tip would be to check in every 2-3 days in your banking account. Have a look if a lot of money has "magically disappeared" or if you made some purchases you can maybe still return if you regret it! 🔍 (Also very handy because I'm forgetful about paying people back or the other way around so that's a nice time to remind yourself to ask for those 3 euros for that one cookie LOL). 🙌 AND ALSO YES for making money video's less of a taboo because we could all use some tips and tricks here regarding money and budgeting 💙

Not too long ago I watched a video where they mentioned: If what you want to buy is going to leave you without savings, you can't afford it. If the monthly payment represents more than 30% of your monthly income, you can't afford it. If the monthly payment is not going to let you set money aside, you can't afford it. It's not the best advice but it stuck with me.

I don't tend to give a thumbs up button in every video because I only like to do it when I really really liked one, and girrl you got it in this one. I'm an economist and I know how hard is trying to explain concepts like budget or saving methods in a simple way that everyone can follow. But it's also even harder to make it funny, just like you do! The movie scenes at the beginning and Ariana Grande example, or even the spatula one (i feel you in that one btw hahah) were so cool. Hope you keep doing this because you are so good at it :)

I needed this as a refresher. I'm a spending fiend. I spend money like it's not going to go away and I end up shooting myself in the foot way before my next payday and I am paid biweekly so I have to make that money stretch. But instead I snapped my fingers and the money is gone. Thank you for this!

I think being realistic about your budget is a huge one for me because (guilty) I spend money on Starbucks. It makes me feel good and starts off my day but I know that if I try to cut it out of my budget, eventually ill buy it and then over spend. Being realistic about what you are willing to spend money on monthly (for me its coffee) versus what I could care less for or spend less on (clothes) truly helps with sticking to your budget.

My best tip to resist impulse buying is to figure out how much I make (after taxes) an hour and how many hours I had to work to pay for whatever I think I want. Like is that really pretty dress I don't need worth the # of hours I had to work to pay for it? Was this worth working 2 hours? 5 hours?

Hey Girl!! I commented talking about spending on this vid on Instagram and honestly your tips seem so much more in reach rather than just searching random tips online haha. Your videos are really well informed 😍Most of my spending too goes to food and I totally get the oven mit and spatula impulse buys lol, I bought 3 cookie cutters to celebrate the holidays this year for a dollar each at Target and I’m lying in bed now realizing that I never make cookies from scratch so I’ll never need to cut them out. I just use the ‘cut out from package and place on baking tray’ type cookies 😂😂😭😭😭

I just did this roughly and very messily on my bullet journal as I have overspent this month... already used all my income 10 days earlier ^^; but since I lost my credit card~ I intend to live on small amount from my savings account! Also want to save more from next month. For me, I start with savings too and I use automatic products from bank with fixed amount, you can change the amount every month. They have slightly higher interest rate!
@annabelle71233 жыл бұрын
My next step, I did spending tracker in chunks with the help of my spending tracker app analysis (savings, shopping, food, date, gift, donation, etc)... but next page, I'll make a shopping tracker to see how I actually overspent and what I bought this month ^^;; I'll check out your tracker for sure!

Thank you! My only problem at the moment is that I'm unemployed, so I do not have a monthly income. I have money saved up and I live with my parents and they don't want me to pay for food or rent which I'm so very thankful for. I have minor regular costs (car, phone, etc) but not having a regular income is becoming really stressful, as I see my savings slowly decrease...

I am however out of ideas what to save for in the near future. A house is a great goal, but I love smaller personal treats that motivate me to aim for the financial stars. Does anyone have any (sustainable proof!) ideas?

That about beeing realistic is key! I use to say "I won't buy snacks all this month", and then ended buying snacks in Oxxo every day. So instead I planed to buy ¿popcorn corn? (how do you call that one? well the one that is not done on microwave), the dry stuff to make fried snacks, and one bag of a candy I wanted that month. All that in grocery shops, because it is cheapper. That way I reduced my expenses and my consumption too 'cause I have to make the snacks before I could eat them.
