Caitlin, I’m writing from not so far from you, south of Rochester NY. I just read your comments about you lack of sureness about the value of what you write. I usually watch you on KZbin; I expect you don’t think about me as your typical follower. I’m over 70 and I really appreciate your work! I feel connected to Toronto, learn about great ideas such as about organization and healthy meals, and I profit emotionally and mentally from your perspective! So when you are feeling disconnected, I hope you pause and remember that, like a good teacher, you cannot know whose life you touch! Life is a bit foggy for us all just now. Your courage in coming into our homes is valuable. Barb❤️⚓️

As someone who works at a bank, I always appreciate when someone takes the time to educate others about finances even if it’s just the basics! There are a lot of people, young and old who have no clue how to handle their finances! I really wish this was taught in school

This was an excellent video. You delivered the information so well and I think your background in business definitely helped; you seemed very knowledgeable about the points presented. I really encourage you do more videos like this. As a 23 year old who also lives in TO, this video really helped give an idea of how to make your hard earned money work for you - Toronto isn’t cheap! Thanks for the Video!

This video was so interesting and helpful. I started to work really young, so I had to learn how to manage money very early in my life. And, for the past 15 years, I have been self-employed so all that knowledge has been so productive. I think it is really super important for young people to acquire financial knowledge, so videos like these are really inspiring 🙏💰

Great video, thanks for this content! Could you maybe do a video especially dedicated for credit cards (like, understanding the concept of credit, how to build your credit cards, paying your credit bill, is it better to wait for the payment due date or pay the credit card on the go, etc). I would greatly appreciate your take on these topics! :)

Keep your emergency fund accessible BUT not directly linked to your checking account. This help you keep it in tact from frivolous spending. Also define what an emergency is to you(ie: is having an appliance replaced an emergency or something you can put off replacing and save for a little at a time.) Save a little at a time now for future upcoming/expected expenses like Christmas, car maintenance, medical cost(like medicine).

Enjoy all of your videos. Keep them coming. :) Went through a budgeting + minimalism phase a few years ago. It can be a lot of fun to hit savings goals. The advice in the video that most resonated with me is to take the time to do research before reaching out to others; so true that one's best advocate is oneself. Credit cards are fine as long as on automatic online payment. Installments and subscriptions terrify me though as it's very easy to lose track or not notice the recurring subscription.

Another tips I have been applying is to be aware of how much it cost to live in your country (with your needs of course). For exemple if I need 500$ for an appartement + 300$ on food + 100$ for extra which will go into my safety funds if not used + taxes and insurance and stuff + bus or car cost + etc etc... At the end you will see how much it cost for you to live. Then divid this by 12 and, we will say you need 1200$ a month, everytime you think about bying a thing that you don’t really need or go to a restaurant but you did already eat out yesterday, well think about those 1200$ and it will change your mind I promise !! I’ve done that this year and I’ve saved 500$ compared to Last year !!! Hope it help ! (Sorry if I’ve made mistakes I’m french) 🤍

Every year, I used to get charged for someone’s subscription the Norton Antivirus software. Every year I caught it and every year the credit card company removed the charge, but it took 3 years to stop. I think the company had the credit card number wrong somehow, but the most hilarious part was that the charge belonged to someone named Fred Penner. I don’t know if it was the real Fred Penner, but I’ll never forget the name on the charge.

It's hard to automate outgoing when you do not get the exact same amount incoming each time. Maybe you could do a deeper dive into how you handle that? I do hope we are using automate in the same way. I mean it as you've set the bank system to automatically withdraw/transfer funds to another account. Not having to go in and do it myself w/ each check. Right? I have all my recurring subscriptions set up this way. They go onto my CC for my rewards and building score. And then I have payments scheduled to the CC the same day. So it basically negates itself. I really do love that.

Term life insurance is your friend! Take advantage of the employee stock purchase program if your employer offers it. Invest in yourself - professional trainings, personal care items, comfy shoes, professional clothing, reliable transportation, etc. Hire a financial advisor if you need help. Money is a tool - don’t use a hammer like a screw driver. Money is a mode of transportation - decide where you wanna go and how you want to get there. Not every mode is appropriate or works for every body. Money is neutral - not inherently good or bad.

credit cards are evil...YES I believed this in college and I am responsible with money so I don't really know why. But mostly I thought I don't need a credit card, I shouldn't get one. Well then after college I try to get one to build credit and I had no credit so basically credit card companies didn't think I existed HA. I tried to co sign one with my parents and that somehow didn't work either, so I ended up doing a secured credit card, paying a deposit that set my limit for a few hundred dollars and had that for a year to build credit. Because I am the older child and had such difficulty, my parents learned from my experience and made my sister get a student credit card in college to start building her credit. I am glad that I pushed to start building my credit after college, but definitely wish I could have started sooner. I also love the travel rewards.

I think of the biggest money mistakes are making short term purchases and buying things for your fantasy self Edit: I don’t mean short term purchases as in food ofc, but more like buying things just because it’s trendy atm
@ModestMillennial3 жыл бұрын
@Alice: I agree.. its very easy to get caught up how companies market their products.. it makes you feel like you need the product and you would regret later for buying it
@aliceforssell44383 жыл бұрын
@@ModestMillennial Yes exactly! And we also live in a society where we are sucked in to social media which makes us feel like we are suppose to be a certain way. That way we make purchases for the person we fantasizes ourselves to be like. For example, let's say we buy a gym membership because we want to be the person who waked up at 6am to work out, but in reality we're not, so we just wasted a lot of money etc (I am guilty of this).
