Louis De Caix D'Hervelois - together with marin marais and antoine forqueray, among a small handful of viol da gamba virtuosi and composers who fought desperately to save the basse de viol from obsolescence at the end of louis XIV's reign; ironically, their technically brilliant but extremely difficult compositions had the opposite effect, and the gamba was rarely used or heard until its revival in the 20th century. i have this album on vinyl :D
