Excellent video! I was looking for a 'tips and tricks' video and found this. This video is exactly the type of lesson I was wanting. Also, he didn't ramble on for 15 minutes like some other people. I'm very excited to subscribe and see what else he has to offer!

I know it as "Floating Hands Technique" from back in 1993 when I was living in Germany. Thanks for this clip though, now I know which will be my next Cajon

This is good stuff. Idk if you use a Cabasa but there are surprisingly few videos even containing Cajon cabasa, and none regarding technique. Can you please cover this? I'm a noob to Cajon, but play guitar, piano, and banjo. I want to learn it all, great video

Anyone know the mic he's using? Is it a Neumann U67?

In cajon i think it's called The floating Hand. (Push pull Not moeller. Moeller technique is a whipping motion to get more power. Or a Gladstone up down) It's like Heel Toe for The hands. Great vid :)

I agree with a previous comment that this technique makes no sense. If you are already a drummer, like I am, it very easy to use your knowledge of beats to play anything...BUT.. you have to learn to abandon the idea of snare with the left and bass with the right. Then start playing everything play hand to hand. It's all 16th notes, ghosting the notes you don't want to come through and moving your hand (that is, whichever hand that note lands on) to the appropriate spot on the cajon. For example, if you break down the count of 16th notes like this: 1 E & A 2 E & A 3 E & A 4 E & A, on the cajon, every "1" (or 2,3,4) and every "&" will be hit (or ghosted) with the right hand and every "E" and every "A" will be hit (or ghosted) with the left hand. The one handed double hit using the the palm in this video makes no sense, if you have a cajon with snares on the top. If you do that in any kind of band situation, no one will hear it.

This was a great video but this technique itself just makes no sense to me intuitively or physically. It looks like you're hitting the base tone with purely your palm while moving your hand downward and then rising back down with your fingers for the "roll" then hitting it with your palm alone again. This isnt how you teach us to hit the bass tone and it doesnt feel right at all and im unable to even get a hit with the base apart from the finger hit. Some clarity on this would be greatly appreciated. thank you

Cutting to a second camera in black and white doesnt have any meaningful effect in the video. It throws off your otherwise nice description

Paul, please look up on google translate how to pronounce cajon properly by clicking on the speaker before you make a right fool of yourself. It is not cahon but pronounced as kagon, practise the G for petes sake.
