Glad someone is making ad money out of "how to funky drum with your bare hands". I’ve found how to funky drum exactly like this when I was 16 back in 1989. No KZbin, no tutorial.

I was just thinking about the times before social media and on-demand video and how good that time was for creativity. Just put the hands on the drum and let yourself work it out is very natural I think.

Great stuf, you should do one on the amen break, it's maybe sampled even more!

Brilliant. Just learned this on drums. Will have to try this on the old cajon, breathe some life into it. Would be fun to add a foot cabana or something for the open hi-hat.

Watched a number of your videos on and off over the past year, but just found this one and really like the addition of the groove displayed at the bottom of the screen. Big improvement, and nice choice of groove.

Working in the Amen Break at the moment. Some similarities to this by the sound of it. Really enjoy learning these patterns - it inspires me to keep practicing. Thanks Ross.

Ross 👍 it's the SF 1960s🐥. Question... why is my CAJON so different than others. It's so bass. Yes aware how to slap but completely bass or deep sound. 🧝♀️

Hello, Ross! I've found it particularly difficult to practise and try to master those nuances over hitting the "snare" in three different ways. The last part of the video where you gave us some examples on how not to do play it was very informative. I was playing it all "flat", no accents... now I've slowed down the tempo and i'm trying to fix it! Many tks!

thanks for the breakdown! coming from djembe drumming I see that the way I move my hands is still different (more loose and relaxed hands) with a lot of the expression in the fingers for rolls and fills. It's not what a lot of people are showing but I find the looser hands gives me a lot of flexibility to create various sounds while hardly moving my arms at all.
@rosslmccallum4 жыл бұрын
That all sounds okay. If your technique works for the sound goal you have then it’s good.
