I really liked your talk about the bass sound, and to not only bounce off the tapa, but also use a minimal surface area too, to help the resonance of the cajon. I played a first cajon gig the other day, and the bass sound, especially the deep one with a full hand, doesn’t travel well. It’s better to get a sharp snappy, resonant bass sound than go for a super low, dead sound, as only you will hear the latter one.

Thanks a bunch very helpful info. I just started playing the Cajon and I pretty much play it like I play the drum kit.

Hi Mark, thanks for your comment. Yes that's a good place to start. But the more you look at other players, especially flamenco, you start to see how nuanced and delicate an instrument it is. My biggest tip is for your hands to spend the least amount of time on the drum as possible. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress!

what i do is (left handed), i use my left palm for the bass and then use the thumb of the same hand for snare at the top center, along with the fingers of my right hand for snare at the corner, similar to the technique showed at the end i wanted to know if what i do is considered "wrong" or if there is any way in which i can improve with the same technique or will i have to transition to a separate technique all together?
