Hi, the video shows department stores in Shinjuku district, Tokyo. Shinjuku area is a famous in Tokyo, and the Shinjyuku station has almost 3million passengers a day, the world highest in number, sorry, this area may be larger than Stuttgart. Japanese patissiers have learned how to make cakes in Paris and already large number of patissierrs are in Japan. When I visited Germany, I was impressed how German cakes are big and beautiful in color design. As to KFC, Japanese has a lot of kinds of ingredients, so we rarely eat KFC usually. Why KFC in Japanese Christmas? very simple. *Japanese Christmas dinner came from USA style, that of roasted whole turkey, but there is no turkey in Japan. *So instead of turkey, chicken was used but in usual Japanese house, no big oven equipped so we cannot cook a whole roasted chicken. *Deli shops began to sell roast leg chicken for Christmas dinner. *Christmas dinner is family dinner but a roast chicken leg is expensive and chicken legs are too big for kids. *When KFC came to Japan, fried chicken is cheaper than roast legs and good for kids, Japanese mom welcomed that. That the reason why KFC become popular in Japanese Christmas season, though I prefer a roast chicken leg which is still sold in deli shops. bye.

Hi! Thank you for sharing this fascinating insight into Japanese culture! I didn’t realize how busy Shinjuku Station is-3 million passengers a day is truly impressive. The comparison to Stuttgart helps put its scale into perspective. It’s also interesting to hear about the influence of Parisian training on Japanese patissiers and how that has shaped the cake-making scene in Japan. I agree-German cakes are often big and have such bold, beautiful designs; it's fascinating to see the contrasts in cake styles across cultures. The explanation of KFC’s popularity during Christmas in Japan is eye-opening. It makes sense that the lack of turkeys and large ovens led to the adaptation of fried chicken as a festive meal. It’s amazing how traditions evolve based on practicality and availability. I think it’s lovely that roast chicken legs are still an option for those who prefer them. Thanks again for this detailed and personal perspective-very enlightening! 😊
