I’m glad I’m not the first to say it, but Cake is marginal at best. However, it’s original guitar music performed by musicians and I support that.

In an interview several years ago Jeff Tweedy named Cake as one of his favorite bands and was still surprised they hadn’t been bigger.
@kingofthefountain3091Ай бұрын
It’s so crazy that they’re where they are in music history, somewhere between one hit wonders and bands that become household names, yet every instrument and voice is recognizable in an instant. it’s hard to create a single distinct instrument sound, and they are comprised entirely of those elements….the voice, the acoustic guitar, the electric sound, the R&B rhythm section sound, the organs, the brass. You know it the second you hear it. Truly a singular sound. TLDR: Cake rules
@ecliptiglyphxАй бұрын
Absolutely well described. Musicians emulate until they find their personal tone. Every member is instantly identifiable by their sound. A rare trait indeed.

Oh man, I love seeing these recent posts. They are an iconic band. I agree with so many that they are practically a genre unto themselves. They are famous for their interaction with their audience. Coming across this made my day! I also want to send kudos to Pie, a Cake tribute band I go to see annually in Winnipeg. It is always a favourite event. Thanks for posting.

About 2 months ago i found a stack of mustache stickers but i had no idea where they came from or why i had them. While watching this video just now I see the mustache on John's hat and realize the stickers came from Cake's merchandise store because i bought a hat on their website last summer. The hat has i cool horse on it not a mustache. But I'm so glad the mystery of where the stack of mustache stickers came from was solved. I threw the stickers away of course.

@@alejoromero Soul Coughing actually got back together and started touring again last year, 25 or so years after their breakup. There was some extreme mutual hatred between the lead singer and the rest of the band from what I understand so pretty surprising they actually got back together. is this the full original band? the drummer seems to sound like a studio musician following a click track hardcore. CAKE has a bit of a swing feel to it. But you have to watch the timing for the changes.
@ArthurVand21 күн бұрын
The band went through several drummers over the years but this is not the one from their peak of popularity in the 90s. This recording would have been around 2010 and this is Paulo Baldi, their 4th drummer who was with the band for a long time in the 2000s. The singer and trumpet player are the only "original" members but the guitar player has been in the band for nearly 30 years too.
