Kame - I still find myself inspired whenever I hear your philosophy that drives your successful business and service to your customers. It was an honor to have been one of your employees way back when. Good to see nothing has changed about your approach to the greatest sport.

I remember sailing with Kame back around 1980 before I left the Bay Area. What a fun blast from the past.

Excellent video. Very informative. I think this entire series would not only interesting but imperative for anyone either interested in sailing or an old experienced salty dog.

This was the best explanation I have heard about sails and I have been sailing for 50 years. Big wraps to Pineapple sails.

Just started watching these videos. LOVED this segment.... It was great to watch, the sailmaker (Cami ?), discuss the difference between flat and full (laminate vs woven). It is also nice to hear his thoughts on the importance of the crew knowing what to do with a sail.....I look forward to watching the series on this Cal40 restoration..... thanks for sharing.

This is great. In the midst of our Cal 39, but overall it wasn't this far gone. Looking forward to seeing the rest of this!

greg, i am deep into a very complete refit of my '79 Cal 39. i'd love to hear about your project and tell you about mine. send me a message if you ever read this post. i am currently in the process of removing, repairing the hull to deck seam, re-designing and replacing my leaky toe-rail, huge project!
@gregvandalen32008 жыл бұрын
+dawntreader70 We have done the toe rail (one of the first things we did), hatches, port lights, new electrical system, and probably 100 other things. Of course we are only a quarter of the way through. If you give me your email I can send some photos or answer any questions. Would love to talk about boat stuff all day long! - Greg

just wanted to plug Sails For Sustenance, a non-profit that will load your old sails into volunteer cruising boats and deliver them to Haiti where they are used on traditional Haitian wooden hulled and masted fishing boats. the most common sails on these boats are patchworks of scavenged blue tarps and old bed sheets. it is crucial for the fishermen to gain enough speed to troll in light winds, and the donated sails make this possible for them. sailsforsustenance.org

the trends now is a cruising and liveaboard and also a blue water .

When a sail stretches, it's surface area increases, thus increasing it's "lift".

Think old sails are useless? They are not. Sails for Sustenance is an organization that will take your old sails and give them to fishermen in Haiti who can get lots more use out of them. sailsforsustenance.org/

SORRY BUT YOU GENTLEMEN DID NOT RESTORE THIS BOAT. YOU REBUILT IT TO BLUE WATER RACING STANDARDS WHICH A FAR HIGHER STANDARD THAN THIS BOAT WAS EVER BUILT.
