I was sitting by some directors from Austin area schools and Heard an interesting perspective. They were concerned that some of the runs were not musically compatible with the music. They love the slow motion Moon River section, but felt some of the rest of the show was too smoke and mirrors. They mentioned that this is ultimately a playing contest and the bands that finish at the top will do much simpler shows but play just beautiful music. This contest is always a head scratcher.

I actually mentioned something to that effect and apparently 4A and lower seem to have different expectations in UIL shows. I believe they said only Argyle would get a pass when they were 4A. It’s all about the music in the smaller classes I guess.
