i have to say that the closest genre i can compare Calamity with is Greek tragedy - tragic loss, ultimately futile heroism, flawed mortals, larger than life immortals, and ultimately hope remaining, even after disaster despite impossible odds. let's rejoice guys - we are privileged to be around when stories like this are being told. and great reactions Sky, thank you so much!

From a story point of view the brutally tragic part of that opening 1 second is that the woman who's terrible, impulsively destructive act caused the entire opening catastrophe actually got out of that encounter almost entirely unscathed. Meanwhile her best friend, who had actually done the right thing by investigating the tree instead of just breaking it, suffered a horrific death of both extreme physical and psychological trauma and her former husband was scoured by flame and eviscerated for trying to help save her.

Brennan as Asmodeus was fantastic. Like, i understand that this will never be animated tlovm-style. But if in some reality it was adapted i understand his voice isn't exactly perfect to play a character like that but man whoever would voice him should mimmick Brennan's intonations and tone *exactly*. Because Brennan absolutely gets that character

Why will it _Never_ be animated? I'll admit, I don't expect it any time soon, They have way too much on their plates as it is right now, but as long as the Critical Role juggernaut keeps rolling forward I see no reason why 5-10 years from now we couldn't see a Calamity miniseries. Honestly I think there's a pretty good chance of it eventually, for Calamity specifically. It's certainly of a quality for it. It has a solid beginning, middle, and end (even with the wobbly time, that's clearly laid out and well planned once you've seen the whole piece), it's highly pertinent to the all the other material they're going to put out in a profound way, and has a (relatively) easy to follow plot, and it's a self-contained one shot that, while could be expanded upon if they so desire, is unnecessary to do so. So if they do eventually Animate it, I don't see why they wouldn't keep creative control just like they have with LoVM and cast whoever they want and have people play their characters. I would be VERY shocked if in this hypothetical scenario there wasn't SOME role for Brennan. Keep hope! Slow and steady will get us the best stories. Rome wasn't built in a day after all.

@@mayaenglish5424 Sorry I just tend to air on the side of scepticism/caution when it comes to animation, I've been burned too many times in the past. That said, I never doubted Brennan would get a role. I mean, who else could ever play Bolo?

@@LJLvids Ah yes, I too am a fan of the "Expect nothing therefore everything is a pleasant surprise not a tremendous letdown" approach to the arts/ life in general. And of course, Super Aeorean Spy Bolo must absolutely be played by Brennan, that's non-negotiable.

Lol! Lou knows Brendan so well! When Brendan asks Mariah's, "is your character weakest at the elbow or the shoulder", Brendan only gets to "weakest" and Lou is already throwing his hands in the air.

Nope, that was Aeor in Eiselcross and this was Avalir, Cathmoira’s sister city in the continent of Domunus. At present all that remains of Domunus is the Shattered Teeth because it was destroyed in the beginning of the Calamity.
