I am greek and orthodox. It may not be "traditional" enough yet the church is beautifull, a piece of architectural brilliance. It is that kind of art which educates people to appreciate beauty.

@@geoellinas The violence comes from people who have fundamentalist religious beliefs, which is not what you believe. But you unwittingly provide an environment where irrational beliefs like a man walking on water(Jesus) and a man flying up into heaven on a flying horse(Muhammad) is normalized. If the majority of the world believed that aliens were among us and controlling us, and that became a normal belief for most people, then it becomes much easier for crazy people to then think that it’s their moral obligation to start killing innocent people who they believe are aliens. I don’t want to argue with the 1% of crazy people that they shouldn’t be killing evil aliens disguised as humans. That’s an argument I’m not going to win. I shouldn’t have to make that case. The argument should be aliens aren’t here controlling us, but that becomes hard when 90% of you don’t agree with their violence but agree with them on aliens.

@alterdestiny You are historically illiterate. Domes come from the christian byzantine empire. Muslims were influenced by this and their domed mosques are copied from Christian churches of the byzantine empire. The reason why the Kremlin and Russian orthodox churches have dome shapes is because of the byzantine empire. The Hagia Sophia, which is what this church here is based on, is a church built before Muhammad was even born

Unreal, people complain about the looks of the church and not having pews. Yet, there are plenty of Orthodox Churches that don't have them. Plus, people complained about the Ground Zero mosque and now they are complaining about this too. Haters gonna hate. By the way, I think it looks great!
@capone709 жыл бұрын
Rob Brady It is extremely distasteful and disrespectful to bring up the Ground Zero Mosque in this discussion as the two have NOTHING in common; the Mohammedan can do/build what he wants. This is about 2000 years of Orthodox Christian art and architecture being usurped by modernist clergy to placate a heretical/Protestant/secular tourist crowd. The fact that you "think it looks great" speaks more to your lack of understanding of Orthodoxy than anything else. Pews should NOT be there, since we should be standing anyway. I really don't understand your implication. Are you even Orthodox?
@HarosOfStyx4 жыл бұрын
First of all, Greek Orthodox, or for that matter Russian, are never suppose to have pews. Pews are a Protestant thing.
@robbrady30864 жыл бұрын
capone70 wow, it took me five years to even notice your rude ignorant comment. Like no Orthodox Christian has ever stood back and said, “I think that a particular Orthodox Church looks good.” Give me a break with your holier than thou attitude. Your attitude is exactly why the Orthodox Church is so uninviting and off putting for non-Greeks, non-Russians, etc., you feel compelled to preach and make anyone that has a different point of view as an outsider. “Put me in my place.” As for mentioning the Ground zero mosque, it’s called Freedom of Speech. It’s on you if you felt that it was distasteful and disrespectful. We’re not in a communist country. And if you would bother reading my comment, I mentioned that pews aren’t found in Orthodox Churches. Although, I’ve been to plenty that have PEWS. Im curious if reading comprehension isn’t your thing or are you merely looking to argue? Feel free to respond with more bigotry if you read this comment.
@robbrady30864 жыл бұрын
Johnny Marvéll But plenty Orthodox churches do. So what’s your point? Are they not Orthodox? Honestly, who cares? Most Americans see the Greek, Russian, & Armenian Orthodox churches as only for Greeks, Russian, Armenians. Look at Capone70’s response to me. Would I want to join or promote the Orthodox Church after receiving that garbage? Nope. I wonder if he talks down to church visitors like he did with me or is overly judgmental. No love in his comment. Zilch.

TISH KerrVille Actually you didn't say similar, you said, "Of course it's going to look like a mosque..." that is pretty clear to me. You also need to take a chill pill, I wanted to clarify that because the building of St. Nicholas is a HUGE deal to Orthodox Christians around the world, for the fact that this will be the only church on any part of the World Trade Center perimeter. Plus watch how you talk to people, your immaturity is super high and that's coming from a fourteen year old.
