Calaveras Lake, TX - First Red Drum Limit

Went to Calaveras Lake and caught my Red Drum Limit for the first time.

It was an awesome time. It's that time of the year to go catch some nice keeper black drum. Dead shrimp on the bottom or sea lice will catch them usually. Good luck maybe I will see you down there.

Thank you. I am glad you are enjoying them. The best crappie fishing that is closest to San Antonio I have heard is Travis Lake. I do know three rivers/Choke Canyon Lake has good crappie fishing just have to locate them depth and structure wise.

The Red Drum don't come that far up river. Calaveras Lake is a man made lake for CPS energy. The TPWD stocks the Red Drum, from what I heard to keep the Talapia population down. Check out the history of the Calaveras Red Drum aren't the only saltwater native fish they have stocked in it. Pretty cool.

What kind of shrimp did you use?

It was shrimp I brought back from the coast. The HEB shrimp works just as well I even like getting the HEB shrimp without the head on it.

Location and type of weight you are using have a lot to do with it. Where are you fishing and what type of weight (size and style) are you using?

I am fishing at spider island, and I am using a 4 ounce bank sinker and I am going tomorrow and I tried to fish near were you fished at and I got stuck so we moved to the little Pier by spider island and caught a 26in and a 20 in using the same rig

Spider Island is hang up city for me. Every time I've been there I've had to break my line. A lot of people get hung up there as well so it just adds to the amount of things to get hung on. Table 7 I've been hung up on a few times in all the times I've been. Good luck out there maybe I will see you if I get to go.
