Just got my wisdom teeth out and would love to share my experience! As someone who was so anxious (specifically about the anesthesia) to where I was prescribed Valium to take before hand, the anxiety and panic I was feeling was far worse and not even comparable to the anesthesia and I wish I didn’t stress myself out so much about it. I remember reading these comments seeing “I just got knocked out” and they would scare me cuz I was like I don’t wanna get knocked out😬, but literally the surgeon put the IV in and was like “youll b asleep in 2 mins” and I was waiting anxiously like “I wonder when I’m gonna fall asleep-“ then I woke up and it just felt like I fell asleep on my own but just forgot about doing so, it’s kind of indescribable but I promise when yall experience it you’re gonna get mad u were soooo worried over literally takin a good nap, in fact I was irritated when the nurses woke me up they were like “we’re done 😁😁😁😁” and I was just kinda like “okay…. Just got all four of my wisdom teeth removed today. I was nervous and scared for years leading up to this... but let me tell you, it’s going to be alright and I think you’ll be happy with the results of modern medicine. They stuck two heart monitors on my chest, and one on my belly. And a finger monitor too. Then gave me laughing gas to relax, I didn’t laugh at all, but it did feel like a cool chill went across my body. They inserted the IV and said on a few minutes they would give me “the good stuff”. Then they asked me where i work, I told them ... and that’s the last I remember, then I woke up (or came to) sitting up in the chair and they were giving the medication instructions to my ride home. I wasn’t too loopy at all. They told my ride that I will be acting as if I were drunk. I did need to catch my balance a few times but we made it to the car and went to turn in my prescription. They said it would be ready in 30 minutes and honestly time seemed to fly by fast because we cruised around for 30 minutes but it felt like 5minutes. I changed out the bloody cotton twice and it hasn’t been bleeding at all anymore. I am able to eat just fine and no pain at all as of day one. Not sure if it’s me or the meds but there is zero pain. I’m eating soups but I was able to eat pasta and some bread but I’ve been chewing with my front teeth out of an abundance of caution. Now for me to get braces. If you’re worried, I promise you, everything will be okay

Just got my oral surgery this morning! Three wisdom teeth and one broken tooth. Listen, I have EXTREME anxiety about the dentist, but have finally started to embark on my journey to a beautiful smile this year. All week long I've been dreading this day and even told my oral surgeon this morning that I changed my mind; I only wanted 2 teeth removed lol. He calmed my nerves and I went ahead with all the extractions. I literally felt NOTHING. We were talking and then the IV must have kicked him because I don't recall anything besides waking up and them helping me outside to the car. Even the IV was painless! I did begin to feel a little pain about an hour ago and immediately popped meds. Feeling good so far. Of course, I've had my ice pack on deck to help with swelling. I know people are different, but I also recommend to research your oral surgeon and read reviews. I had so much trust in mine because everything I read was impeccable. Figured if I'm going to do it, it may as well be done by the best! In the meantime, the plan is to follow all the after care instructions and hopefully heal up quickly! Hope this helps someone! Go after that beautiful, healthy smile! 🙂

He clearly was trying to prepare me for what was to come lol. Got my meds and back in bed with my ice packs. Still nothing EXTREME, but definitely discomfort. Hoping after today it's up from here!

My experience today!!! Got all four done. They feel raw and sore, but I'm really glad it's over. I was chewing on my cheeks constantly and getting crazy sores. Mainly just the incision places feel sore and my jaw is super stiff. I was shaking like crazy because I was so nervous. Like whole body shaking in the chair. No one even said anything about it and they were all just being really supportive and caring. The laughing gas they gave me had zero effect, but I just kept deep breathing through my nose and out my mouth to stay calm. Once they gave me a few injections and waiting a couple minutes I was suddenly waking up in the recovery room with my husband. I was completely lucid and not at all out of it, but the Versed injection kept me from making memories so I asked a lot of the same questions over and over in the room and in the way home. I was laughing about it because it was so weird- I couldn't remember how we got through different towns so quickly but I knew what was going on and it wasn't scary. I was just like "oh my god it's so weird how I can't form memories! I don't remember sending these texts two minutes ago!" Again- I want saying anything embarrassing. I just couldn't form memories yet. I came home and after about an hour or two of laying down and dozing I was all right. You guys got this!

👋 Anyone reading the comments about to have their surgery … let me explain my experience. ( I got them out 5 hours ago ) I WAS A NERVOUS WRECK before hand watching every video possible reading all experiences on reddit and comments on these videos from the good ones to the bad ones. I’ve been nervous since they told me last year they were coming in. It was a peice of CAKE for the people like me who have severe anxiety about medical stuff you will be just fine! I wasn’t worried about the recovery more so the surgery itself, and a little stressed about the IV ( i was put to sleep with IV sedation ) the IV was NOTHING me and the assistant were giggling and I was asking if I should watch him put it in or look away and he promised me it was nothing and maybe id enjoy watching it go in.. I looked away 😭 but it barley felt like anything, like a poke a tiny little prick. they put the thing on to check my blood pressure every 5 minutes and the thing on ur thumb along with some like patches they put on my lower side and chest. Sat there for about 30 minutes with the IV in my arm until the doctor was ready. He came in asked how I was lowered the chair down and put this thing on my neck to monitor my breathing I think he said,, and then he released THE GOOD ( the fluids into the IV ) it was a crazy experience.. like i was out but wasn’t ? all i last remember is seeing is the light and then within seconds it was done. I was so stressed for NOTHING. so glad I went with IV sedation because I didn’t feel a darn thing! 😂 and the loopyness afterwards ain’t all that bad either. I would definitely do it over again and take away all the stress from before because it was nothing.

After the IV was administered I just closed my eyes, I was somewhat awake (I guess ) because I opened my eyes a little & things were blurry & closed them back when I saw a needle (numbing agent) heading towards my mouth. ( which I didn’t feel at all) I could hear them talking, but their voices started fading away. I could feel them working over my head & faded voices. I felt no pain, no pulling/ jerking in my mouth. Didn’t hear any suction noise, no cracking teeth sounds & didn’t have any pain during my procedure. They woke me up saying all done…2 teeth removed w/ dissolvable stitches. I felt like 5mins…no lie! Like everyone else in the comments I was watching / reading up on the whole wisdom teeth extraction process and one thing freaked me out the most… getting sedated . I went to an oral surgeon that people I knew went to and they say it wasn’t bad at all and the surgeon was great but that didn’t comfort me as much as I wanted it to. ITS NOT BAD . You feel like your body is cooling down and then you drift into sleep. What helped for me is that I kept my eyes close while the IV got put in and just tried to relax. I woke up and all 4 wisdom teeth were out. I was so confused because that didn’t feel like 25-30 minutes it felt like 5. I wasn’t loopy on the ride home and I’ve been fortunate to not have major swelling on my face. It’s important to remember why you’re going in the first place ! My bottomed wisdom tooth was growing parallel to my jaw and causing discomfort along the next 4-5 teeth next to it and the tooth directly on top of that one was halfway about but was causing a bunch of problems . I brush and floss everyday and somehow tartar would develop there and it ended up eating some of my tooth exposing a nerve which was extremely unsettling. If you dentist recommends you to get them removed because some of those problems will happen later on then do it. 30 minute procedure that’ll last a lifetime of comfort !

I just got my wisdom teeth taken out yesterday and that sedation is no joke. The last thing I fully remember was the doctor giving me the IV and next thing I know the procedure was over. It was the weirdest thing because I wasn’t fully asleep. I remember hearing voices in the background and movement around me but I somehow don’t remember the surgery. Pretty interesting if you ask me. I wasn’t fully freaking out before it but that may have to do with the fact that the doctor prescribed me a Xanax to take an hour before 😅. Now I’m swollen on one side that same side hurts but nothing out of this world.

I just had mine taken out today and believe me if i had to i would do the process again. Ive always been a anxious and nervous individual so leading up to today was dreadful because i didnt like the idea of the sedation protion of the procedure. So i came in waiting in the waiting room and when they called my name my nerves were rising through the roof. They weighed me and got my height and after that they sent me to a room where they sat my down on a chair and asked me questions about any allergeis to any medicine. Then they ask whens the last time ive eaten n shit like that. And after that i asked a couple of questions about the prcedure and once that was done they start put on my heart monitor and all that stuff. Then i waited for the nurse to come in and after she came in she put a rubber band around my bicep to find veins n then they pricked me with the IV. I could handle shots n stuff like that but i hate IVs. But to be honest it wasnt that bad just a small minimal pinch and my IV tube was set. They put in the sedation medicine and told me to rest my head against the chair. At first i didnt really feel anything and all i remember was looking up at the spotlight the dentist's use to shine light on your teeth and within like 2 seconds i was ready to leave. They told me i slept but i didnt feel like k did. I sat up waited a few minutes and jusy like that i was out the door. It took 45 mins to get 2 wisdom teeth that were already protruded and 1 impacted tooth. To all the people that are nervous or anxious about IV sedation dont be trust;I may not know any of you guys but believe me i would do it again if i had the chance. IV sedation feels like u teleport through time trust. Not in a bad way though it just a simple expirience that has to be done so that in the future you're all set to go. Please ask my any questions if anyone has them. These videos truly did help me and so did the people in the comments. YOU'RE GOING TO BE PERFECTLY FINE BELIVE ME:)

I just got all 4 of mine pulled today. both of my bottoms were impacted. I wasn't experiencing pain from any of them prior but the VA wanted me to remove them. Since I wasn't paying anything out of pocket I did it. I've had a fear of the dentist since I was 8 years old, when my mom was going to get them out for me I was too scared as a little boy I guess she let me get away with it. The army was going to remove them when I was enlisted but I ended up missing the appointment (on purpose) and never rescheduled it and no one noticed haha. Finally in 2021 I had a root canal done and my dentist had taken xrays of my mouth and saw I still hadn't had any of my wisdoms pulled (they had questions since the military always pulls them out lol) Long story short!! Went under General IV today and it felt like eating alot of Melatonin gummies and chugging a bottle of red wine! I was comfortable and relaxed and felt nothing! The sorness for me went away after 3 hours and now I'm just a little sore around my jaw. I'm still gonna take the Hydrocodone till the pain is completely gone though. Don't be scared, IM THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of being a procrastinator and fearing the dentist as a child into adulthood! I was asymptomatic with all 4 of mine. I was worried about them rotting in the future! Now its a done deal! Don't panic and dont be afraid! Everything will be fine! Your comfort is very important to them!

Yayyy! I get to finally add my comment here. So I was SUPER nervous leading up to my removal today. So much so that my blood pressure when I got there was spiked and my heart rate was in the triple digits. They asked me to try and calm down before they could give me thr propofol. (Unlike this video, I was fully knocked out) I closed my eyes and breathed in and out for a bit trying to calm down. Kinda woke up what felt like 5 or 10 seconds later thinking I almost fell asleep. Turns out, we were done. I feel so ridiculous for being so scared - it was literally nothing. I didn't feel like I was being drugged when I was put out, and I just felt sleepy afterwards. Oh, I also saw double for a few minutes, but that went away pretty fast. So, if you're really nervous, I can PROMISE you it'll be like nothing 😌 Something you'll have to experience to fully understand, but so so easy.

Just had my wisdom teeth out today. I had 5 removed with IV sedation. (Had an extra one lucky me) I was super nervous before hand but the nurse asked me if I ever drank. I told her occasionally. She said have I ever blacked out? I told her yes once. She said its alot like that you are there doing stuff but you aren't there mentally. This put me at ease the Surgeon then walked in I asked him how his morning is going. He said good he through a tourniquet on me. (That hurt worse then the needle) He put the IV in he asked me if I thought the nurse was hot (not sure if that really happened) and next thing I knew I was waking up with gauze in my mouth actually walking when I woke up to the car. (Sounds weird but I regained full consciousness while walking) didn't even know how my glasses got put on or how I remembered to grab my mask. (Covid) No pain the entire time just numb and drooling a little. All in all I'd HIGHLY recommend IV sedation for wisdom tooth removal. Was really easy and again no pain. Granted I think my surgeon is a ninja but thats besides the point. (Really clean cuts and nice stitching and I didn't feel the IV really) If anyone has any questions ill be happy to reply.

Then I woke up in recovery and wasn’t even a little loopy, which I wasn’t expecting. I guess I was surprisingly coherent, which wasn’t what I expected 😂I vaguely remember being told to take deep breaths and being given a tissue because my eyes were really watering, which is normal. When I got hospitalised, soon as I saw the nurse hanging the IV drip infusion above me, immediately I jumped out of bed and screamed like never before in unimaginable terror by the time they began inserting the cannula. It took at least 4 people to hold me down prior to IV insertion. And even when the IV line was already in, I was still shaking like a leaf for quite a while, whimpering under my breath in between sobs.

@calcaterrafamilydentistry6 жыл бұрын
Amber, every case is different. However, horizontally impacted wisdom teeth typically require a fair amount of effort to get out. As a result, post-operative discomfort is to be expected, but that should be manageable with pain medications that your dentist/surgeon provides. With respect to the feeling after general anesthesia, you can expect to be somewhat groggy when you return home. A little rest and a nap and you'll likely be feeling normal again.

Got my done few years ago I had IV sedation for wisdom tooth removal - not bad at all. Slept for an hour then woke up knowing procedure was done 😅

The medicine they gave me to fall asleep worked, I felt like a baby and woke in pain but fine.

Do they put anything in the IV to prevent nausea afterwards? Nausea and permanent nerve damage are the only things im worried about😅

After reading the paper the oral surgeon gave me about sinus communications, I am ready to cancel my wisdom tooth removal and just live with the problems. I have high bp and am concerned about that, plus the fentanyl they use for the sedation.

could you please let me know what type of sedation this was? like was it "conscious sedation" or "deep sedation"? I'm getting mine out soon and i'd like the same exact thing.

This was conscious sedation (aka "twilight" or "moderate" sedation). The patient is able to respond to verbal commands, although he/she will not remember doing so. In deep sedation, the patient is sedated to the point where he/she cannot respond to commands.

I'm want to remove my 4 tooth both pair of lower near wisdom and lower wisdom. All are impacted and one is currently swollen right now, it hurts bad. My problem is how am i gonna go home if the anesthesia got me bad cus I'm all alone living in the city. And the dentist location is far. I've been in pain for months now😭😭😭 . So last choice is a general Hospital that is even farther but maybe cost higher dunno I'll visit later i guess.
