Hello! New engineer needs some guidance here. Let's say i want to calculate the pressure drop from a 12" header that flowing into 3" pipeline. The values that I need to use for calculations are from the 12" or 3" pipe? For example, the internal diameter, velocity, friction factor etc....

I did try to calculate the pressure drop using the 3" inches value but the pressure drop are WAY too significant it doesn't make sense

If this is true… explain how a high pressure, tapered, water hose nozzle works 😂 Or… maybe you can show us some real evidence by making a model; which should only take you two minutes to construct.

the second that water exits the nozzle its at atmospheric pressure... Its not until the water hits something (which stops the quickly moving water) that the water has to accelerate (thus force, thus pressure).
