I enjoyed seeing Gary Sinise receive the recognition he so richly deserves. After the portrayed one of the forgotten men of the Vietnam war in "Forrest Gump," alas, many more of those same veterans never enjoyed the "Hollywood happy ending" of 'Lieutenant Dan,' only coming home to a country that despised them, having to retreat to the comfort of drugs and alcohol after returning to a bleak and hopeless future. But apparently Mr. Sinise has completely forgotten the terrible and bloody lessons of the Vietnam War, a conflict that tore America apart. Today, we are entrenched in too many wars in the Middle East to easily count. After spending the lives of countless men and women in Iraq, then re-deployed for a record 19-years of continual armed combat in Afghanistan-longer than any other war in American history-we have still not yet "achieved the peace" that Sinise had mentioned, only the loss of yet more veterans in the blood-soaked sand of the Middle East. The fact is, even the top brass of the US military have already admitted that our incursion into that war-torn county has been "a total loss," with the people of Afghanistan "even worse off than when we first arrived." Yet young Americans continue to sacrifice their lives, their friends, and their families on the altar of "Homeland Security." As I watched these few fortunate families who Sinise has chosen to be rewarded with free homes and trips to Disneyland, I wonder just how many men just like them will NEVER get to enjoy such highly-publicized gifts and trips "from a grateful nation for their service to God and country," while so many of their fallen comrades face nothing but pain, suffering, and regret, exactly as their forgotten brothers in the Vietnam War did, so many years ago. *But this isn't a Super Bowl halftime show, friends.* Today, 22 ex-military veterans commit suicide every single day, a tribute to the actual toll that these unending wars have created. This is the true reality of these endless conflicts in the Middle East, and I will continue to protest these senseless wars until the same congressmen and presidents who start them begin to donate THEIR sons and daughters to fight for "Peace & Freedom" in the Middle East. Does Sinise actually wish to support our troops as he has so often claimed?? THEN BRING OUR TROOPS HOME.
