This isn't Hua Chen Yu's story, but his own childhood was very unhappy. His parents divorced when he was 3 or 4, and he lived with his dad who withheld his love, praise, and attention. He drew on his own pain to make this and Fake Monk sound authentic to him.

He rearranged the original rap song to this in 24 hours - a true story. It's not his own story but as it is known that he was a victim of emotional neglect in his childhood he put a lot of his own feelings into it as emotional blows sometimes can hurt as much as physical blows. It's a songs as should be heard to make people aware and maybe help children in such situations.

It’s always difficult for me to watch this performance. My father never beat my mother, thankfully, but he constantly yelled. He would go berserk when he thought I needed to be disciplined. He never stopped yelling at me to tell me how stupid I was. It affected me my whole life. When he finally died a few years ago at age 87, I didn’t even know how or what to feel. Egads. Sorry to carry on. Hua Chenyu’s performance was brilliant. 🙃

Hey Caleb. Like others have said, it is not his own story. He was asked to perform the song, which is originally a rap song. However, he chose to talk rather than rap, because he found the content of the song was really important and did not want to draw attention away from it. Apparently , people speak even less of domestic violence in China than you do in European countries (and perhaps Australia?). He was unsure how audience would receive his choices of rearranging the song, but followed his intuition. Everyone in the room was affected emotionally, regardless of knowing that it was not his own story. He always manages to empathically identify emotions of a song and dig up those emotions within himself. Thank you for your reaction!

This is a great performance by Hua, he originally just did the vocal part in 2014 or 2015, he was younger and wore black glasses. In 2013 he won SUPER BOY. At the end he sang not the greatest version of I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU and said, “ I love you Dad”. His Dad was in the audience. His parents divorced when he was about just 4. There is a video of his Father crying and in the subtitles his Dad said he was sorry for not being home enough and he had to work many hours. I Hua’s new Concerts he just did he has 4 songs about his life, Conversations With Martian Children, Madhouse, I Really Want to Live This World, Sacred Tree, Seven Personalities. They do not have subtitles yet and are emotional (one of them he collapses at the end of the song) he talks about Depression and in the last song he talks about the different emotions we may have and how they affect the individual. He usually uses a lyricist to write what he is trying to convey. Also, he really has perfected his vocals from 2013 to the present.

This song always makes me turn into a red faced sobbing mess, it isn't about his life though it's his own arrangement of Jay Chows song. Hua had a childhood with some neglect despite being a well off family, so he could bring up his emotions very well. His story telling and emotional performances are just brilliant. He is an amazing talent and I am a big fan of his music 💖

It's hard to believe that i isn't his own story, though as in his interview preceding "Fake Monk" showed, his childhood had elements of neglect that he could draw upon. For another performance, where he was a guest duet partner of the singer Juno, in a different competition that shows more of his acting skills and another unexpected talent, try "(Eng Sub) Perhaps Love". I'll put the link in a different comment. If you don't see it that means it went to spam, but you can look up the title anyway.

Hua is my fav + most beloved chinese person on earth since many years - but - i really never thought that there would be a "song" what exactly would "tell what i think or feel" (too) + the lyrics/words would so perfectly fit to my own "story" with "my so called dad" .... and reflect situations and feelings which i usually bury deep deep + try to avoid to think of, bcos it still hurts in a way. so - phewww... whenever i hear this song again or see this video like here in a reaction-video... Backstory on this competition and the performance: The guy in white at the end, who was emotional, is the one who challenged Hua and gave him Dad, I'm Home. Hua had 24 hours to rearrange it. He took a rap song and turned it into an anthem about domestic violence. The guy in white was so emotional it messed up his following performance, and Hua won. No, it isn't Hua's story, but it IS many thousands of others' stories. Up next for you will likely be "Child", what many consider his best song. He has did two duets with Juno Su, "Nanping Evening Bell", which is a stunningly beautiful song, and "Perhaps Love", which came after Nanping. Thank you for your heartfelt reaction, it isn't your typical song. The first time I heard Dad, I sat there for 10 minutes, very emotional, trying to process what I had heard. Thank you again.

I've always felt very sorry for that young man. I think he chose the song to throw Hua Hua off but I think there might have been some deep seated personal angst that made him choose this song. This is late but Hua has a complicated past. He was alone a lot, his parents divorced when he was young. Hua’s musical journey is rather long. He won a competition called Super Boy at 23. (He still does some of the songs from 2013! He has rearranged them and his voice is better bit then he will be 30 on 2/7) His first version of this song has no talking. His IS a Performance Artist. (His fiber of CREEP in 2013 and a few years later are different but very emotional like this song) So if you have the time, look at previous performances and at 24 wrote Quasimodo’s Gift which is very complex and a beautiful and sad song from Victor Hugo’s Hunchback of Nôtre Dame. (Hua is well read in classics and classical music, plays many Instruments & the flute since he was 6. The Mars Concerts: there are more than one, each one is different and not just the music, he designs the sets s and staging, It is worth checking out Hua English Subs and watch his Mars Concerts and see this Genius control, in some concerts, 90,000 each Concert. I watch videos and his music touches my soul. He does do more than one style of music in some songs. Nunchucks was a “female voice” from Chinese Opera. Party of the reason he sings from the front of his mouth is the Mandarin Dialect. He does use his voice as an instrument and the words translated from Chinese to English are very lyrical. There is an older song GIANT DEER, very ethereal and the opposite of I DON’T CARE or ALIENS & more. Thank you for your reactions and he wrote 5 new songs in 2019. He was talking about depression and to help people who might need help not to turn away, He is on THE SINGER 2020 & a show called ACE vs ACE - comedy. Then a Mars Concert (s) in the late Spring.

But that’s even more amazing as an artists to be able to perform this kind of song as if it was his own story. Idk if u would be intrested in reacting to Hua Chenyu’s song Cancer it’s a song with no lyrics just sounds it’s very uneasy and uncomfortable but that’s actually the point of it. It’s supposed to display the disease Cancer and how it grows scarier and scarier.

Great attention to comment bring people's attention to some serious matter of domestic violence. This was a song from Jay Chou (extremely famous chinese singer songwriter) which is done in typical Jay rap style (here is the original). This video which you did a reaction is from a show called The Next which no name singers compete against 4 host well established famous singers. It's a one on one battle where the song list is randomly chosen by fans and then the challenger chooses the song for the host singer and the two singers (which have individual song) have 24hrs to rearrange and perform, really a great show and actually showcases off Hua Chenyu's insane brilliance and talent. That wasn’t his story. He was just showing the audience how u can cge a song to make it your own...it doesn’t always have to b singing, it can just b a narration They have this tv show in China where the artists have 24 hrs to interpret a song and give it their own cover. (I think it’s just 24 hrs. He did say in one vid I watched that he was able to do this interpretation in just 24hrs). This was the result of his choice of songs. Having said that. He did have a very lonely childhood. His parents spilt, his dad worked away fr home a lot, so he became very introverted, had NO clue how to interact w/other people. It wasn’t until he was in university that he learnt how to act in social settings. His music teacher took him under her wing. He was CLUELESS on his to get along w/other people. Because of his loneliness growing up he went into a very dark place and he attributes this time period a place of discovery....his luv of music ..,may be it dark at times but it gave him an outlet. Up until he won the Superboy contest in 2013 his father had NEVER given him any compliments or encouragement...Hua was 23 at this point...he asked his dad why he raised him that way and his dad told him that he wanted him to b able to rely totally on himself for any thing that was to come his way. He did not want Hua to go thru life seeking approval fr other people. He wanted him to b self sufficient in all things. (They have a wonderful relationship now.) It wasn’t until Hua’s little sister was born did he get 2 experience any type of childhood. He then saw his father become a dad. The nice thing is Hua never resented or was jealous of his sister. He embraced it wholeheartedly and got to enjoy a childhood he never had. (He was. a young adult by the time his sister was born). I personally loved his interpretation of the song Fr across the waters Canada 🇨🇦 🐥🐥🐥hugs and all that jazz

The 2019 Mars concert is really genius and brilliant. Hua released 5 new songs at the concert. 3 of them are a trilogy. Would you please react to the first one next. Hua said It's for people who have depression. "I really want to love this world” with English subtitles connected to the original official channel amara.org/en/videos/u6Wi5THH08iU/info/2019-hua-chenyu-mars-concerthd-i-really-want-to-love-this-world/ 2nd "Mad House" amara.org/en/videos/ioCO5UuyTnjC/info/2019-

Hua was not through this. The song is a cover. It just shows how well he immerses into a song when he performs it. Hua had a lonely childhood and he agonizes through it in Fake Monk. Here is the link to his story followed by the song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqm5e4OojL6Yqsk It makes the song so much more understandable. I hard that the wailing is supposed to represent Hua crying. After that we can get away from the sad and watch PERHAPS LOVE a lovely duet with Juno.

It is very misleading if, for a person reacting to the song, to have not done enough research to know that this wasn't his own song (and he's doing a cover; you can check out the outlines of the variety show) and to say that it was his childhood. Very misleading to people who didn't know the truth. Even though other people wrote in the comments "It is not his story", not everyone who watches your video read the comments. Got it? I am a fan of Hua Chen Yu for a couple years now, and if you are doing a reaction video of him, then do your research. Because you are doing the reaction video and being sorry for Hua Chen Yu. And, on the other hand, you don't need to be sorry for anyone. I don't understand this American thing that when you hear other people's sad stories you have to say "I am sorry". No, you are not sorry. In fact, you might not be able to relate at all. You can't relate, then walk away. I am much better now than my past so you don't need to be sorry at all.
