Then people have the nerve to complain that the cost of living is too high, which may be true but to be honest a lot of people’s cost of living is just too high and if they dropped it they wouldn’t be complaining. I’m 19 and understand this stuff and have been teaching myself for months. Glad I am going into accounting it really make more sense when you look at the numbers.

This is the exact issue I had with his audit. "I deserve..." "I deserve..." "I deserve..." People should be allowed to enjoy the fruits of their labor, but this entitled mindset almost always leads to self-sabotage. You have to learn how to spoil yourself without harming your own self-interest. It is easy to live in the realm of instant gratification, which is his problem. It is much harder to conceptualize delayed gratification for a lot of people.
@ingetout

The mentality of “I deserve this” is the biggest problem with society today. Especially for finances, this is why people choose to go into huge debts for everything from vacations to Uber Eats. It is like trying to lose weight but eating pizza and cake because you had a good workout.

Lying on a w4 isn't tax fraud. Lying on tax return is tax fraud. If he said in his return that he had 5 dependents, that would be a problem. Doing that on a w4 just means they withhold 0$ for tax, which means he would owe all of his annual income tax at the end of the year, plus underpayment penalty. Plus failure to file penalties, plus interest for failure to pay by the due date... but no fraud.

@@roxane1237 They do, but for most normal people filing your taxes is real easy and cheaper, and anyone saying otherwise is either lazy or very very misinformed. Things like TurboTax (I hate the company but for someone with this kind of income, he can part with some of it) allow you basically put in a picture of documents your job gives you and does it for you. You can also fill out the forms yourself which can take time, but for single income sources, it's not too terrible. If you own a business, real estate investments, are hyper wealthy, or things like that then it can be more complicated and then you can pay someone to do it. There are some companies that will help.

It is a reality. My income increased quite a bit the last 6 years. My lifestyle hasn't changed by much. I did buy a car (replaced a 20 yr old car that died with a 3 yr old car). Still in the same house I've lived in since the mid 1990s. Have refinanced during the low rates to do a crap-ton of remodeling. Doing a lot of the work myself to save money. But otherwise haven't killed my lifestyle. But damn the taxes are so high! My tax bill for 2022 was more than double what my income was when I started in my field (not what I owed, just the total of all taxes - paid during the year plus what I owed due to slight underpayment).

You works HOURS in 100 degree heat making "good money" and your body can only take so much. Gino seems like a really good dude and hopeful his girlfriend's investment pays off, but I hope he realizes that he is on a shot clock, in a "right to work" state and he should be saving JUST in case he has to make a move. I hope he comes back for a follow up episode and has absolutely crushed this plan. I think this is the only episode I’ve seen where someone has a great situation on their hands and just really has to come to appreciate and take advantage of it when so many other people wish they could. Good luck to him!

Lol. I’m a PA. It’s physician assistant (he said physical assistant or something). It is expensive. Programs are usually anywhere between 30-100k for the 2-3 years of school. And then living expenses. I was very lucky and my grandparents paid for my tuition (which was about 90k for 27 months) and I have 52k in student loans for living expenses, books, supplies, clothes/scrubs, etc. PA school was the most difficult thing I have done in my life and most take multiple years to get accepted (it took me 5 years to get in with a 3.6 GPA, shadowing, volunteering at Mayo Clinic, and working full time in patient care roles (ended up with 10k hours by the time I was accepted). I love that I’m a PA but I also like people to know how difficult it is. Especially because you can waste all that money and be kicked out of programs because your grades aren’t keeping up. And if she goes to school, he’s going to need to be the main provider for the child because she won’t have time.

He isn't going to change. He doesn't think he has a gambling problem but is gambling transactions on his cards are staggering. Until he recognizes he has a problem and gets help he won't be able to improve his situation. Even with get help the ease of online gambling is very hard to deal with. I hope he gets help.

I’ve seen pretty much every episode of financial audit and this has to be the most insane I have seen. Simply due to the fact that this guy has insane income and yet his debt/tax/retirement situation is still absolutely abysmal

Do you have the amount of debt he has??

@joonsantini unfortunately its similar, but minus the casinos. More so on helping others by taking a loan out due to some situations with promises, getting burned, and then getting stuck with the debt. Which was mostly family, so there was some kind of mental obligation, then realized within the last year that overextending help is not helping them or myself, and luckily, i do have this great income to make up for it. But lesson learned. But as far as taxes, i can confirm it's rough. We are on the road away from anyone that we care about or vice-versa for ~345 days a year. Home is only a vacation for us, and to see 1000+ dollars a paycheck go to taxes is heartbreaking.

You most definitely have a gambling issue if you withhold all your 200k income from the irs so you can gamble on credit card debit.
