I think people are being really unfair towards her. She works 80h a week. Your mental health is important, and if you keep balance by going to cinema from time to time to remind yourself there is a world outside of your screen then its your right to do so. Not to mention that they are just married and hardly see eachother. If you dont make active effort to spend nice time together then this relationship is going to end. I know one couple who did exactly that. The guy was so focused on building savings that he refused to go to dinner, vacation, anything that costs money basically, even though they were financially fine. Now they are divorced, he has all the money but no wife because he didnt nurture the mental side of relationship.

I didn't get the sense the guy is overly controlling but relationships require sacrifices from both people. Minimum payment is always slightly above interest rates to keep you feeling like you are paying off your debts but infact it just balloons up. You start off with a debt of 1000$ but after paying pretty much only minimum payments you ended up paying 2-3k... its stupid. People should be forced to have a proper education and/or have to attend credit card educational classes before you are allowed to get a card.

Just an FYI for people who love puzzles and streaming and feel bereft during working on debt - like books, your local library often rents puzzles and DVDs and often has associations with streaming services like Kanopy. If you are worried about paying for a library card, they're free if you live within the city/county the library is associated with. Just sharing free fun in case someone needs it

I’m in Australia so I’m not too sure if the US is the same but here you can borrow almost anything from a library, books, DVDs, puzzles, audio books, kids toys, even tools like table saws & drills and of course they have computers, printers, laminators etc. that you can use on site. I smoked a bunch of meat leading up to the wedding, we got sides from the local BBQ place, we rented a tent, it was BYOB, and our friends said it was one of the most fun weddings they'd been to. The whole thing cost less than $10,000. Probably closer to $5,000.

Last year we had a family vacation planned and booked. I ask my wife if we had money to pay for the whole vacation with cash. She said no. I told her to cancel the whole thing. My roomate needed a pc for uni/gaming, he bought a gaming laptop for 1200€, I bought a used desktop for 200€ that I can game on, saved 1000€ comparatively. He bought a new bike for 700€, I bought an old one for 40€. His parents helped him so that's not really debt, but that's still a sign for financial irresponsibility.

I wouldn't say financial irresponsibility if your room mate has the financial backing in the form of his parents. I purchased property while in university because I knew my parents were backing me in those decisions. Also can your laptop play games well? A gaming laptop is usually more expensive than just a daily driver laptop. It doesn't seem comparable? I'm of the belief that as long as you're purchasing within your means and you're using these items extensively, it is a good investment to pay for better quality for longer lasting items.

A lot of the people in the comments forget that the husband actually had a ton of debt and made a lot of mistakes too. They both probably had the exact same financial state of mind, but then decided to clean up after. The husband was faster to internalize it, but its obvious shes struggling with the mindset switch, which is valid. Its hard to rewrite that sort of thing. Another thing is she makes most of the money, she works very hard too - 80 hours - so she is willing to work hard and make sacrifices, its this last step that she needs to take. People should be more sympathetic. Its very hard not to be defensive when you're attacked so directly with a camera on you. I'd like to see anyone else not feel the urge to laugh to ease the tension and try to rationalize in that moment.

For anyone out there, an affordable wedding is 100% doable! We had a budget for $5k for everything (Ranch house/venue for several days, dress, grooms shirts, food, alcohol, decor, etc) and we went UNDER budget! We even waited till our 2 year anniversary to have our "honeymoon" cruise. We'll worth the wait! What matters is you are together! If you can't afford a wedding, have a courthouse wedding my my brother in law and sister and then have a party later! Well worth the wait! You can do this! ❤

A hospital lab position that most people have never heard of is a histotechnician or Histotechnologist. I’ve been in the field for 6 years now and I had certainly never heard of it before I got into it. These positions generally also require a certification but have been so short-staffed since Covid and many places in my area are starting to do on-the-job training. They basically make the microscope slides that pathologists use to diagnose cancer. It’s a potential option that she could look into if she wants a healthcare position (minus the vomit!) 😊

The best message Caleb offers is how draining and demoralizing it is when you are in your 60's and are struggling to live and you look back at all the money wasted 😢 on credit card spending when you were younger. Because the therapy cost a couple hundred max, while the job earns them a lot more money. You're right, in a normal situation, it makes no sense, but if you're well over $100,000 in debt, it becomes a good trade off for a temporary solution to solve the issues

I feel the tough love was necessary. The laughing and shameless lying can only go so far before she has to realise that she and her husband are in 2+ years worth of bad debt in just a single year of marriage. She does seem quite charming and carefree, but she needs to see the situation for what it is and face it. Also props to Caleb for giving them full empathy at the end there. Sometimes the audits can feel so bleak that I worry guests might just give up after they leave, but showing that light at the end of the tunnel through your own experiences was very classy.

I just graduated as an xray technologist. Usually, degree based programs are just over 2 years to complete. I went to a technical college for my xray technologist program and it was only 14 months and less than $5k for the whole program. Best thing I ever could have done for myself. I’m in a job I absolutely love and I’m very excited for my career to grow. I’ll be adding a CT certification eventually when I can, and that is an instant pay raise. Xray technology/imaging is a great field to be in!
