My dad worked for British rail in the 70's on the sleeper train when i was a kid, he used to take me and my brother and sister and mum with him on the odd occasion and we'd get the sleeping cabins. I loved it on a train at night time. It was Glasgow to London and back again. I'd come back home with a big cardboard box full of little packs of biscuits with 3 biscuits in each pack and swapped them all with my mates for sweets n stuff....happy days.

How did I find myself here? Bedtime in North Carolina, watching a Steve Marsh video most evenings before turning the lights out, and relaxing with Steve’s video journeys and commentaries, before listening to the terrific music he picks at the end. Heck, I even find myself a bit anxious every video wondering if Steve will find something to eat, then enjoying his “food finds” for the trip. This is the best travel video series I’ve ever come across. Cheers, my friend!

Just found your channel a couple of months ago. In this short time , I tend to watch an episode with a coffee and pastry as you make me feel hungry !! You never really change through the videos , always appearing cheery even if , on the inside , you may not be. I find your videos compelling watching even although I am definitely not a traveller albeit driving 60.000 miles per year before retiring a couple of years ago. Thank you for your consistency throughout especially when it comes to liking or disliking certain places. you do not come down against a place with a snide or hurtful comment , it shows your class. For that reason , in my opinion , you are in a different class from other vloggers , again in my humble opinion , you are the bar that the rest are trying to reach !! You come across as a mix between Alan Wicker and the Two Italians , compulsive viewing that leaves me hungry lol You have taken me around the world in a very short time and for that I thank you. Keep up the excellent work , stay safe and please do not be jumping off trains a stop early in the middle of the night ....

Re the wallace plaque...there is a church (St Bartholomew) directly across the road from it which was there in William's time and would have been one the last things he saw while being murdered. It is a beautiful old church. There was also a service held in it on the 700 th anniversary of hid death which gave him the funeral service he was denied by bully boy Longshanks. I would recommend a wee visit next time you're in Smithfield. 😊

This train gets mixed reviews, but it's something that should be experienced if you can afford it. And yes, the price considers its value as a hotel room, but a hotel would allow you to get a full night's sleep! The Caledonian Sleeper occasionally suffers from maintenance issues, notably showers that are cold or inoperative as well as the temperature of the cabin, but the staff does what they can to keep you comfortable. And some people really appreciate having their own toilet!

There are two sleepers. The Highland Sleeper that comes from Fort William, Aberdeen and Inverness. That joins up at Edinburgh Waverley at about 1am The lowland sleeper goes from Edinburgh and Glasgow and joins at Carstairs...unless covid had changed this?🤔 The seated compartment is not good for an overnight journey and my biggest gripe is that it's very much sold as a luxury product which doesn't really provide an alternative to flying. I'd quite like the couchette system used on the continent and still preferred the old carriages.

Hard to disagree with anything you say there Michelle! And cheers for the Highland/Lowland info - makes sense now :)

@@steve-marsh Thanks for the reply.... I'm about to have a slight rant so please ignore.... Serco are currently running a service that has had many faults plus industrial action by it's employees. I believe that they are wishing to reduce the service to peak season and premium price only. Currently seats that should be available from Edinburgh/Glasgow are not, and I wouldn't be surprised if they use the excuse of "lack of use" as a reason to make cuts across the service. Rant over... Best wishes and hugs for you both 🤗

Wonderful video, again bringing back memories of taking the Sleeper from Inverness down to Euston, which was a long trip for me after taking the regular train down from Thurso first. Scotland's Ambassador has done it again. Great travel idea, for a casual traveler or tourist with amble time, the train is an option for sure. Sure the prices might be a little steep, but that's cool. The nacho's looked good (extra jalapeno's please). For myself and others who do not partake in rail travel, your sacrifice was appreciated, video'ing the room and other rail cars. Suppose there is a bit of excitement anyway and would be hard just to demand one's self to sleep. Closing with a pleasant audio selection. Thank you much!

We took the sleeper to Glasgow from London in June. My husband and I and are three teen daughters. We had three club rooms. Since we were in the UK for three weeks some of us had big bags that barely fit down the hall and lucky we had the third room with only one person so we could stow the bags on the bed. It was awkward having to wait til so late at the station since we had our bags with us. It was a nice ride and comfortable bed. But yes falling asleep around 12 and getting up at 6:30 for breakfast and arrival made for a short night. We were supposed to return from Edinburgh a few weeks later but the rail strike happened so they cancelled our train, we had to book the daytime 4 hour train instead.
