Would this be a Pressure-Balancing mixing valve instead? Because it is operating with loaded springs and is sensing inlet pressure? And when there is a sudden change in inlet temperature, it shuts off both sides?

All the anti-scald valves I've encountered are a danger, they fail so as TO cause scalding. They are unreliable, short service life, very expensive. They need to be banned. There was not a problem before this ridiculous badly and over-engineered money-making 'fix' was introduced.
