What a great video - I happened on it because I have a sumptuous Caley’s chocolate box (late 20s/early 30s) which contains the lead pieces of a miniature garden set made by Britains - that belonged to my mother. I’d upload an image if I could!

Thank you . so much history, My Uncle worked there and he used to bring home chocolates swept from the floor, they were still delicious. I remember those's Easter eggs, I do miss RoloThough

Very enjoyable presentation. Seeing all those chocolates and sweets and crackers was so mouth watering (not the crackers). I used to buy my dad a packet of Rolos for his birthday when I was a little girl. Crunchies and Quality Street yum. I don't remember Caleys though I must have eaten some of their products. They were ahead of their time with mineral water. Another great presentation with great illustrations.

Mackintosh toffees were my absolute favourites , we could get them here in Australia in most supermarkets but unfortunately they disappeared from our shelves Two years ago my husband travelled to New Zealand and to my delight found them in what is their Woolworths supermarket He brought me back 12 bags of these gorgeous toffees 🥰 of course their all gone now and until this pandemic passes I’ll just have to dream about them 😊

One of my aunts was fired by Caley's in the 1920's/1930's for not putting enough chocolates in a box.

I don't think that the reincarnated Caley's still operate today. They did have a website and you could buy their chocolate in Tescos, amongst many other places but I've seen nothing from them over the past few years. I even wrote an email to them some years ago: In September 2016 I asked: _"Could you please tell me if the chocolate is available in any outlets and if the range is due to eb expanded at any point."_ The reply I received was: _"Thanks for getting in touch._ _I’m afraid there is only the limited range that you have seen available and it is only directly from ourselves at present._ _We do not currently have any plans for future product releases or to replenish our current stocks._ _Sorry to disappoint!"_

Thank you for letting me know, I couldn't figure it out either I found 1 site that would say they were still in operation even if only occasionally and another would say they had totally shut up shop so I went on the side of caution, Its a shame that it seems to have truly now gone forever.

@@alittlebitofhistory I'm guessing that the 3 former Rowntree-Mackintosh guys had got to retirement age and didn't have much in place to keep it going beyond their working years. It is a shame that it's gone now, even of the products were made down in Gloucestershire somewhere but there was a Caley's Café in the Guild Hall and they even opened up a short-lived 2nd café at White Lion Street. I went to the café at the Guild Hall a number of times, it was a good experience. I also got a Caley's mug ! Their website, caleys.com/ , is still active and copyrighted 2021. Companies House has the company as Active but not trading.

@@lewis72 Interesting that the site is still up, just sad how many of the old Norwich business are gone, pretty sure Jarrolds might be the last man standing, Colman's is gone. Bullards is technically back I guess but I guess that is up for debate.

My Aunt use to work at Caley’s, Staff we’re told that they could munch away at chocolates any old time. Seems that did the trick of any pilferage, anyone had in mind.

I believe it was pretty common in a lot of Chocolate factories for a time, I believe the thinking was after a couple months you would just be so use to it you would hardly touch the stuff.
