I'm going to miss the Saddledome in the Future, for my own reasons 1. Been to a lot of Sport Games from Late 90's to Now 2. Volunteer to the Crowchild Trail Classic (Mount Royal Cougars vs Calgary Dinos) 3. Been a Season Ticket Holder since 2017/18 (Roughnecks) 4. First Time Ever going to a Championship Game and we Won against the Buffalo Bandits (Calgary Roughnecks (2019)) (I was able to order a Championship Ring during the 2019/20 Season as a STH) 5. Used to have Season Tickets to Calgary Hitmen Seasons from my Dad's work (2012-2020) 6. Go to Flames Games (Superskills, Season Games, Playoffs, Retirement Games) 7. My First Time going to an AHL Wranglers Game in the 2022/23 Season (including my Birthday Game) 8. Tour across the Dome 9. My one Friend invited me to a Hitmen Game with the Radio Announcers (my Friend was a student in Sait for being a Radio Announcer and he had a project to deal with by asking the announcers questions)

the seating capacity for the new arena is less than the saddledome😂 how is this going to last for the next 50 years they should have made the new Arena to hold at least 20,000

It will be an issue in the near future. New Arena only holds 18,400 capacity. As Calgary's population grows. Especially if Flames make the playoffs. The Saddle Dome held 19,500 Calgary's Metro population is already 1.6 million. other new NHL Arenas hold 20,000 already and all the seats are good views. @@qualtain01

I think it has a blend between abstract and corporate - it will fit in very nicely with what the City has done with the public library and BMO expansion designs. It doesn't look as iconic as the Saddledome does, but seeing the in-depth plans it looks highly functional for all kinds of events, staff, attendees, restaurants, and shops. I also like that it has Indigenous elements incorporated into social exterior pathways and wall spaces. I really wish tax dollars didn't have to fund it and that CSEC (the biggest benefactor) would just take it all on. Especially seeing as they could totally afford to. However, I know a building like this also significantly serves the city outside sporting purposes and will generate far more revenues over the long run while providing a high-quality functional space for people. I'm excited to see it all come to fruition!

Towns and cities have always invested in local facilities to benefit the local economy. I live in a small town and our local rink is funded with taxes (loses money every year) and I rarely use it, but it attracts people to our town which helps our local shops, restaurants and hotels.
@ChanT312 күн бұрын
What needs to happen is a permanent ticket tax for 25 years and requirement of address. If you have a Calgary address or out of province address you will be charged a 15% ticket tax. If you’re from the rest of the province it wouldn’t apply to you. That’s fair.
@jamesgibson358212 күн бұрын
If I recall it was half a billion of taxpayer dollars. Recovered through ticket taxes, higher parking rates near the arena and I think there was some kind of restaurant tax in the vicinity. I think the owners recover their investment through arena revenues. Taxpayers can pay for the priviledge to go there! Less seats, more boxes, as I understand than the dome, so tax payers can pay more to go!
@ChanT312 күн бұрын
@@jamesgibson3582 The reason is should be a tax for 25 years at 15% for Calgary residents only is because the rest of the province did not vote to fund this. This is a bad investment with zero return. Province should also be charging a additional 75 million per year to city revenue

Sure am going to miss those wicked sight lines from the upper bowl of the dome for under $100 bucks. Now will be so far up it’ll be like watching the game in 2D for more money. Really wish they would do a 2 bowl tier system like Vancouver and not 3 tier like the garbage arena up north.

I literally have been 2 times. Ya the cost isn't ideal but we need it and that's that
@JesusFriedChrist12 күн бұрын
So if we need a new arena then let’s get a new one……that’s good. A good design and bigger. This looks terrible. It doesn’t even look like a hockey arena. Modern art makes everything worse. And there’s nothing about it that says “Calgary”. Literally all they had to do was make another Saddledome with a 2-3,000 bigger seat capacity and all the modern amenities they already had planned. The Saddledome is an iconic piece of Calgary, and if we had to tear it down and build a new arena, why THIS instead of a Saddledome 2.0? 🤷🏻♂️
