Man, what style that Cady had, really outside the box for ‘68!
@googleusergp5 күн бұрын
Whoa Nelley, 1968 and used to be great. Yep, Oceanside, CA. My 1983 Snap On KRA-59F top nine drawer toolbox has stickers that show it spent time in Oceanside, CA as well. I got it from a coworker for free on the other side of the country. Yes, you really made it in the world in 1968 when you bought one of these. Looks like an old school Western Forge made Craftsman screwdriver and a hot forged unit (marked "Forged") at that. Those are the best. You need to get a convertible cart. They have ones that go from upright to a "U boat" style like they use in the supermarkets. Those are worth it. I've related the story of a former coworker (now passed on) that was a technical writer for Motor. He may have helped to write that edition as he was much older than I was. We got the tag, we can brag: 10C for the third week of October 1967 production, 68 for 1968 model year, 69347 for Cadillac (6) Eldorado Coupe (9347), FWD for Fleetwood Body plant, West End Street, Detroit, MI, 451 for Black leather interior trim, 97 for Rosewood Firemist lower exterior paint (which was an extra cost color in 1968), and 62 which is the roof color and doesn't show up for 1968, so it may have been a custom color. This car would have had a 472 CID V8 originally, with about 375 gross HP. We got the VIN, we win: H for Fleetwood Eldorado, 8 for 1968 model year, and the rest is the production sequence with final assembly being done at the Clark Street plant in Detroit, MI which closed in December 1987. Cadillac VIN sequences are unique in these years and do not follow the same format as the other car divisions did. By 1971, they would be harmonized in format with the other GM divisions. Whoa Nelley, 1968 and about to meet the final fate. Cadillac ain't worth jack. That's it, time to quit. Made in Fleetwood and now it isn't any good. Going to be flat and that's that. 472 and it's over for you. Front wheel drive and took the last ride. Soon to be flat and about to leave the chat. Please don't get squished because all of the Cadillac faithful, many here, maybe Benny and for sure the Google Man are all going to be very pissed.

I like the 66 Eldorado. That 472 looks clean inside. Someone must have kept the oil changed, l have seen many Cadillacs that you couldn't see the rocker arms for the sludge.

I agree that the pre 1971 El Dorados were better looking but even the 1974 had 500 cubic inches of iron and front wheel drive. My brother could plow through well over a foot of snow between our driveway and our neighbors driveway, around my sister's stuck car and then back through the foot plus snow divider, back into our driveway and park in front of my sister's car. Horrible mileage but a beast in the snow.

At nearly over 5000 lbs, it was like a tractor in the snow.

When I was stationed in San Diego (in the 1990s) I would venture the salvage yards in San Ysidro..I found some interesting facts in my journeys..While (popping) the hoods on the El Dogs ..I would find that every one had chrome valve covers on them...Also found that every Mercedes Benz had DUAL timing chains...

Well that sucks! Damn. I love those Eldos. My cousin had a 68 and beat the hell out of it. FWD burnouts until he broke the half shafts. This was back in the 80s.
@googleusergp4 күн бұрын
Back then no one cared about those cars, but how things have changed.
@LongIslandMopars4 күн бұрын
@googleusergp yes. We cared though. My dad never abused his equipment and intended to keep things going for life. He was a depression era child and knew the value of money and hard work.

These yards damage these cars due lack of care..My Dad and I went to one of the yards here in South Bend Indiana years ago to pull parts of a '57 Chevy more door (on top of a semi trailer) .We watched the attendant put the forks of the forklift thru the drivers door to lift it off the trailer...How stinking stupid can you be...
