i literally watched this video like a million times, read the handbook, and on the dmv website there are practice tests. it took me 1 week to gather all this knowledge. went to got take my written and in like 10 minutes i passed first try. repeat everything in your head or out loud. its simple when you take the time to study, there is no shortcuts to this but then to just study.

I am 70+ years old, got the notice that I had to go to DMV to take my vision/ knowledge test. Being familiar with computers, I searched and saw that I can take the test ONLINE. I went over about 7-8 DMV tests samples each containing 36 questions. After a while, the same questions started appearing. I filled the application online, paid the fee, and selected "Online Knowledge test" a link was sent to me via email and I took the test, I had barely gone through 10 questions when the screen showed that I failed and ended the test. So at this point I didn't know how many question they ask, but knew if you have 3 errors you fail. NEV was one of the questions ! I took the test again after an hour, again from home, I failed that too. The note told me to go to DMV to take the test for the third time. I crammed in ALL I could, even ordered the Cheat Sheet and went over all those questions, I went to DMV, waited quite sometime to get my REAL ID processed, took my picture, took the test and failed a 3rd time. I had to start the process again, fill new application, pay the fee and take the test. While exiting DMV, I asked one of the agents, is there an easy way to take this test for dummies like I ? she said check the internet. I found eLearning for seniors, supposedly, when you select this option the link will take you to some 36 questions that you can learn form answer and that way you won't have to take the test. I went that route, filled the application again, paid the fee, and was expecting to get a link to the 36 questions but what I got was a screen where it showed my temporary license and saying the actual lisena will arrive in 4-6 weeks ! I have NO idea how this happened. After waiting 6 weeks and NO sign of the real license , I called DMV, the guy answering said, our system shows that you have failed 3 times and you have to take the test again. I said, you guys have issued me a temporary license, but he said that is not right you have to go to DMV and take the test. Talking to a cousin, she told me, get the book and study ! that is what I did for 2 days. Used the .pdf downloaded version, I read EVERY LINE, I pulled ALL the questions (that I could remember and had missed ), into a Document, highlighted them, marked them in RED. went over them over and over again. (10 days, 15 days, 100 feet, 200 feet, 10 mile, 55 mile speed , suspension or suspension with jail sentence . . . all sorts of combinations ), Saw words that had NEVER seen before NEV, Sharrow, Didn’t know there were 6 different kinds of bike lanes. I went to DMV, tried to argue that I have paid a second fee and you have given me this temporary license so where is the REAL license, there also I had to explain to 3 different people, the last person, when I told him, see I followed this link for 70 year old people . . . He smiled and said “You don’t have to take the test” as of last week, the law was passed that people over age 70 don’t have to take the test. So he processed my papers, the Real ID , I had to do it again, but didn’t have to pay a third fee. NOW, there is more to continue, but I am afraid this is already too long it won’t let me post.

09/1977, 2 months after I arrived San Francisco from Hong Kong & I passed the DMV English test... after I learn road driving for 10 hours & I past the road test. & got the California driver license.. parking in S.F on slope roads were quite tricky & need more careful. after I travelled around the country & had driver license of louisiana, new york, conneticut,, finaly Florida till now.....

I failed the first time. One question was on a wet slippery road you should reduce your speed 5-10 miles per hour. Another question was your driving on a narrow single lane road that is approaching the top of a hill, when should you blow your horn. 100 feet before the top of the hill.

Thank you. I watched this and another 30 min KZbin video right before taking the test and I passed it. Granted, I’ve been driving for a while and was just transferring my license. Quick tip: if you can just skip the video to when the answer is revealed and only memorized the correct answers to each question, you’ll do well. You don’t need to know the wrong answers. Just focus on the correct answer. I got this tip from Kevin Zadai ( look him up) and it worked! You’re welcome 🙂

Like always on these tests, some of the questions are worded in a way that seems like a trick question. The question about seatbelts has an answer about cars made before 1975. If that was the answer, how would anybody know that is a law? The question with the answer about flashing your emergency lights to warn drivers of an accident. Nobody I know would do that. If I saw someone flashing their emergency lights, I wouldn't think that it was a warning of an upcoming accident. The question about when to use your high beams. High beams aren't used on a regular basis. Only if it's really dark. I had to guess about the child restraining seat. I guessed correctly. I don't have any kids, so how would I know about that at all? The question about the bicycle rider. I would pass the rider, but I wouldn't be squeezing past him. I would move to the left so there would be space between me and the rider. I wouldn't do that if there was a car in the other lane. The question about the peace officer directing me to pull over. It isn't clear if the officer is driving behind me or if he's standing in the road. How would I know what the penalty would be? What does that have to do with driving? What do the alcohol questions have to do with knowing how to drive a car, what signs mean, or the rules of the road? That should be in a separate test or something. One thing that should be on the test is about making a right turn at a red light. People seem to think that they don't have to stop. That they can make the right turn without stopping first.

Take your time and read the question carefully they can be worded different. Also if you don't know an answer common sense will be your best friend. Just think about it logically and you should be ok. But if you really want to pass and be safe read the book lol. Good luck!

I just took the written test. There are 25 questions and you are allowed to miss 5. Although the information on the above tests is a must to know, they ask very few of these questions on the test. Your best bet is to read the California DMV manual from front to back. Do you know what a NEV is? Well, I didn't. Do you know how many feet a truck needs to stop going 55 miles an hour. That wasn't on the test. Read the manual.

I took the Nevada one a few years ago when I was 16 and just studied the night before and when I was in line. I wish I knew about this that way I wouldn't have to be so stressed haha. But either way, I passed both tests the first time, although if I got just one more wrong on the written one I would've failed it. I had a lot of trouble with this written test after driving for thirty years. And I made up my mind never to move out of state for that reason. It was the same with the New Jersey test and N. Carolina. Part of it is the people who write the tests are awkward writers and part of it must be they're trying to be difficult. But why do they describe ice cream trucks as frozen dessert vendors? When you're looking for tricks you wonder if that means a moving vehicle or ??? I'm just saying that you aren't alone in finding it so difficult. Sorry it's this way.

the US Driving test is so easy compared to the Tests in other countires. Try the Chinese Driving test. 100 Questions from a list of 1600 Questions. You can get 9 wrong and still pass though. Give it a try.

All the questions on each test will vary, as all DMV regularly recycle them, hence, no test is ever the same. Thanks to some random questions from these videos, and using common sense I passed today, play them as back ground sound and even fall alseep to it once while, or while doing other different things, and the retrieval cues in your brain will register the data for long term and you will pass. Yes, some of them. Actually a majority of them. I had one goofy question on my dmv test I just took today. The question read. If your brakes get wet, what should you do to dry them? A. Accelerate your speed to dry your brakes. B. Press on the Accelerater and brake at the same time. C. Avoid water puddles. I marked C, and got it wrong. Correct Answer, B, press the accelerator and brake at the same time. I thought, what????????

If you have read my other note about "People over age 70 don't have to take the Knowledge test" that is NOT a correct statement. I did some digging on the DMV website and found this : FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 1, 2022 COUNTDOWN: CALIFORNIANS AGE 70+ CAN RENEW DRIVER’S LICENSES ONLINE FOR FIVE MORE MONTHS. Nearly all California drivers are now eligible to renew their license online or by mail - even if their renewal notice states an office visit is required. Talking to a few people older and younger than 70, they have said "We didn't have to take the test" I, myself, also don't remember when was the last time I took the test, so reading more, I found this statement : Assembly Bill No. 174 CHAPTER 254 Approved by Governor September 23, 2021. Filed with Secretary of State September 23, 2021. SEC. 6. Section 12814.5 (d) The department shall not renew a driver’s license by mail if the license has been previously renewed by mail two consecutive times for five-year periods. I was in this category as I don’t recall taking the test in the last 10 years, just Vision test. So, whether you have to take the test or not depends on few factors. Hope this comment and the other one will help people to know that they can take the test at home, they have 5 months to possibly avoid taking the test if over 70 and no need to go to DMV, and check their DL to see when was it last issued and when they might be due for test and REALLY study for it ! LOL

just did my DMV test and pass it! thanks again each year DMV mixed up the words but all of them really have the same questions just got take your time reading don't rush or you will get it wrong if need to cover your ears to block out the sounds to focus is okay to do so sometimes may need to ask get earplugs but make sure is okay with the DMV first this will help you block out the annoying sounds It help me anyways Thanks hope you all do well good luck study hard
