California Forced Me To REMOVE MY MODIFICATIONS On My Car...

I put my 2020 Subaru WRX STI with a tasteful amount of bolt-on mods, back to stock... Reason being is I got state reffed ONCE AGAIN in the STI and we now have to go stock and get the car inspected... If you guys aren't from California, a state referee ticket is when you have to put your car back to stock OEM parts and get the car inspected by the state. During that process, you cannot drive the car until it is 'cleared' or passed inspection. In todays video I prepare my STI for inspection by removing my grimmspeed downpipe, single exit catback exhaust, tune, and more.

I know it would be expensive, but since COBB did project green speed all their parts are now carb legal. You could just sell your Grimmspeed parts and replace them with the COBB parts. Next time you get pulled over all your parts will be carb legal and have numbers to prove it.

In NC, I can do anything to the motor, intake or exhaust. The law only says you have to have a muffler and cats. None of that ref crap you have to put up with. I had to deal with CHP when I drove out there. I had lights on my mirrors that were legal. We had amder in the front and red on the backside. They was put on to help keep my mirrors from getting knocked off at a dark loading dock at one of the cold storage. Because he didn't like them, he told me I had to take them off. I asked several times what was illegal about them, and he would never tell me. The told me to get them off or I would be placed Out of Service. I could never live in that state. I can't understand how people keep voting in all the people that keep passing those anti-american laws.

Before you sell the hoses with that other Catch can make sure the hoses you left on the car are the same standard. The EO says: All Hoses are SAE30R9 or stock equivalent. The Ref will be looking for the SAE30R9 designation on the hoses. Usually printed on the Hose. Compare the old ones to the ones from COBB and make sure they say the same thing.

Id say invest in property in Texas, Id say El Paso or Dallas/Fort Worth. It could be a real cheap beat up house, register all your cars in Texas and bring it back in California, if you ever get pulled over you can just say you’re visiting, you don’t have to tell them how long. Only down side is that registration is once a year and you have to get your car inspected so you’d have to bring you car to texas once a year UNLESS you have a buddy or someone you’re close with that inspects cars and “cough cough” could inspect it with you being in California still which would save you a trip to Texas.

In the 90s and early 2000s I had this same problem with CVPD. I would get pulled over weekly. They would give me the same tickets over and over. It was harassment. I eventually stopped using my car. The only way to avoid all of this was to eventually move away. After moving out if CV I never get pulled over by police.

do not be afraid to ask the ref some questions when you get inspected. Take that downpipe with the cat and see if you can get a CARB approved high flow cat and have it installed. usually anything behind the cat is personal taste as long as it does not exceed the decibel laws.

If you live in California, you know how this works. One cannot fully commit to modding. It has to be done with respect to what's obviously noticeable under the hood or below. Anything in between, well, that depends on how not so obvious it is.

Don’t put stickers on your car that show your mods. Just keep it nice but also close to stock looking as possible. all states have requirements on cars such as in michigan they have a height on cars low or high they also say all parts of the car has to be DOT approved meaning they have to be stock and they can impound the vehicle and it would have to be turned completely back to stock before it leaves the impound lot and I learned that from experience and it is expensive to redo everything

It’s a lot worse in the southern parts of CA than everywhere else. Especially if you have an obviously modded car. The louder and flashier it is the more the cops will be checking for you because they have nothing better to do 💀 it sucks but most of the time it’s better to just comply than to be getting constantly slapped with $400+ tickets. For Chris it’s most likely the fact that he has a YT channel and is driving around with super dark front windshield tint with a bright wrap. If his car looked stock on the outside he probably would have little to no problems

Well a window banner is a dumb thing to put on in my opinion especially in CA. It’s pretty much the same thing as having tint on the windshield. You put a big target on you. That wing ain’t doing any favors for u too😂

If you sell those parts you can pick up that nexgen stage 2 kit. Carb legal- intake, Inlet, injectors, rails, lines, pressure regulator, fuel pump, catback that’s around 92-94 db. It’s pricey but legit, add a Cobb Bpv and new top mount with a good tune it will net you 330whp on 91.

Before I left San Diego in late 2021, I ran ModsApart Garage putting people back to stock. My WRX was & is FBO 428HP & I NEVER GOT PULLED. But I left for this exact reason. The number of people coming for mod removal was insane and I knew it was time to dip. I'm still Modded & 2 years later I've never been pulled over in my Subie. Texas is cool AF but weirdly enough there's only 3 VA chassis in Fort Worth area with mods. Come one come all. It's a better life. The Beaches stink anyways. Meets here are insane and Subies are rare AF, and demand Mucho Respecto. ✌️

Honestly the easiest way for you to get around all of this would be to make your KZbin channel (or another dummy corp) an out of state LLC. Register the car in the state of said LLC and rent the car out to yourself for $1 a month. Trucking and rental car companies have been doing this for years to get around CA bs and its not very expensive to do.

I just learned my lesson with my upcoming smog check, had to convert my heavily modded car back to stock (big turbo, fuel pumps, sensors, exhaust, catch can, intake). The best thing out of this i guess is that the car is now quiet when driving....i guest i'm getting old lol.

Im running the redline intake, Cobb turbo inlet, Cobb bpv, Cobb aos, and a Fujitsubo single exit that maxes out at 90 db @4500rpm no issues with the popo.

@@chris_borges it’s not gonna be as loud as the gs intake you had, but you can hear it, the temps stay pretty good if your moving and it looks dope. If you keep the block off plate on it you don’t have to worry about deep puddles, and the temps stay much cooler at the expense of the whoose sound.

Been their it's the worst thing ever got reffed on side of the street for almost a hour got reffed in 2011 90 civic wagon had a zc twin cam back then it was 8.00 to get reffed they just made me go bigger a ls built swap had to buy all the emissions for the swap. My wagon is barred by Cali finally they used to give you a sticker and put it on the door jam. And got pulled over and reffed again in my prelude for my greddy exhaust told the chp it's legal he didn't care, got reffed with the greddy exhaust and it's barred to it passed. The reff fee went up to like 300.00 something idk how much it is now. Either way getting reffed is a nightmare
