Humboldt Fishing

4 жыл бұрын

This video was filmed in Humboldt Bay California. This day is right around the town of Arcata and Eureka and it is full of fish ready to be caught. The halibut come in during the warm water months of the year to Spawn inside of the bay in the shallow water. We are targeting these fish using artificial lures. Swimbait fishing is the most popular way to catch these California Halibut. These fish are great to eat; my favorite way to eat them is to throw em on the grill. I ate this fish with sticky rice and lime. It was so good! I recommend a simple recipe for halibut. My kayak was given to me for free by my awesome neighbors. I’ll be doing a lot more kayak fishing coming up here. Rockfish and lingcod season just opened so next chance I get I’ll record a catch and cook. Let me know what you guys think about this video and comment below any suggestions you have for later videos. Thanks so much for watching!
Music in this video:
Lavender Lust - Ramirez and Rocci
Fkj & Masego - Tadow
Secret Crates - Springtime Stroll
Gyvus - Lemon Tea
My gear:
I use an Abu Garcia Promax reel.
Shimano Scimitar 8.5 foot Medium Heavy rod
Bucktail
Maxima 20lb Line
Piscifun 40lb Braid
THANKS SO MUCH FOR WATCHING! SUBSCRIBE IF YOU WANT TO SEE MORE ❤️❤️

How about a rock fish /ling/ redtail perch trip off the Somoa peninsula . As a kid we used to jump the fence at the Mckinleyville airport and flip cow patties for mushrooms or get chased off the Mckinleyville golf course picking em. . People back in this era would eat the mushrooms, dress up in costumes and race home made land/water craft devices into the Humboldt bay and back to shore determining the race winner. If your parents are local they would know whats up and the tradition .

I have 3 or 4 jetty videos right now. I’ll probably do a perch video too. Went to Trinidad and landed a huge cabezon and my kayak flipped in the waves and I lost the fish and gear so I couldn’t film a video. Bummer. I’ll get back to it though. But that’s cool haha I haven’t tried the race part of that 😂 we find em behind Safeway

@@humboldtfishing7328 So staying in Sitka I'm guessing. A bit early but just north of Sitka is Salisbury Sound. I've caught many large king salmon up there in the past. Quick salmon grill recipe,, easy to pack and tasty if you like the asian zing; Brown sugar to taste in Tiger sauce,,,, Fresh grated or minced ginger and garlic to taste,,,,, Toss in a handful of chopped green onion, or scallion tops as some folks call them. Maybe a dribble of soy. Man, to me it goes so we'll with salmon and without the soy it's not too salty. Play around with it. I think you'll like it once you get it blended the way you like. Stay safe down there,,,,,,that ocean and the weather can change in the blink of an eye,,,, 😎👍 Use as either a grill baste or a marinade, or as a dipping sauce. All qtys.to taste.

@@humboldtfishing7328 Perhaps you don't understand. NOTHING is real anymore but the video / film and the "sound effects." This started as far back as the 1920s when films became wildly popular, and so on and so forth until today. Reality --- our physical existence --- now counts for nothing. If you don't believe me, try this: count the wasted zombies who stare at their cell phones all day long. When you get to 100 by 12 noon, the experiment will be over, the debate resolved. I look up. A commercial is playing on TV. Chris Rock is the endorser (I remember when we watched him because he was funny. That was decades ago). Gosh, he has an Apple cell phone in his hand. Thank you Chris.

Wondering why you did the top fillets on the beach given the muddy nature of the bay and then the bottom fillets at home? We never had these halibut when i went to school at HSU and College of the Redwoods just had lings, rockfish red tail perch off the Somoa peninsula but the mad river had 20 lb plus natural steelhead and massive king salmon to 50+ lbs. Seems the environments changed . All we used to get from the inner bay was mud sharks, rays, and a couple perch. 10-11 lb halibut from the Humboldt bay wow! IF there is one bet there is a 30 lb with your name all over it.

Hey man! I decided to fillet the first half with a backdrop of water for your entertainment. The mad river now is a bunch of guys that love the hatchery and act like the wild component of the run is gone. Sad to see. But i did catch a 30 pound king on a float rig on the mad again. AS well as a bunch of steelhead. I have a steelhead video from this year if you havnt seen it yet, I would check it out. Thanks for watching and for the input!

@@vids595 i went to school at Humboldt State and heavily fished the region for many years. and as of the mid 1980's California halibut just did not exist in the region in any real numbers. El nino weather patterns then pushed species basically 120 miles ( North) into cooler water. On the flip side note the Warmer water fish of baja and Southern California in Central California waters now. Last few years we have had bill fish such as Marlin, mako sharks Yellowtail. blue-fin tuna in large numbers. in shore fish now include fish including Brown trigger fish and croaker species such as yellow fin, spotfin and even corbina. Basically California Halibut in Humbot bay are a relatively new fish if were talking length of time historically.
@jimbo4612
@jimbo4612 4 жыл бұрын
@@vids595 Yep! water got warm. wish we had them when i fished Out of King salmon, there expensive fish and worth quite a bit of money . From whats been going on now its fairly common to get a smaller pacific halibut in the mix with the California halibut. So you can keep 3 California halibut and a pacific as well provided the Pacific is in season. There is a good book called " A guide to the fishes of Humboldt Bay" which includes all the unique fish in the bay. Humbolt U also has a great lab with specimens
