Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the history lesson haha. I absolutely love finding out the background of the places I go to just to get an idea of why the area is the way it is. =) Hope you are having a fantastic summer so far! It's almost over! BUMMER! haha xx

Been there before. Not much a secret to me. It's a painted Hetch Hetchy aquaduct. Partied, drank with friends, a little herb, and train dodged.

The way we always got onto the Sidewalk was to go to the bridge and climb up that way from under the left side of the bridge.

I didn't begin watching the video yet, so I'm not sure if you mentioned this already, but... The "Secret Sidewalk" was actually an aquaduct that carried water inside of it in the early 1900s. The "sidewalk" portion is the top of the aquaduct. There were even some Charlie Chaplin movies filmed over there as Niles is the original Hollywood. I visited the Secret Sidewalk several times in the pitch-black in my younger years. I was even inside of it. Yes, you read that correctly...INSIDE of it. #RealFremont EDIT: So I'm 3:23 into the video and I see that you mentioned some of the points that I made, lol. As for your trek: you went the right way along the train-tracks as a starting point. But if you would've walked further along the tracks, you would've hit the remnants of an old, abandoned, cool brick foundry. And if you would've continued on, you would've hit the Secret Sidewalk towards the beginning where it wasn't as high. SECOND EDIT: I see that you found a way to the inside of it. Back when I did it, my friends and I were all intoxicated and it was like 2am. I went inside and being that I'm only about 5'7", it was really difficult to pull myself out (there was no ladder back then). My friends were being not so nice and left me inside of there for a few minutes until they decided to pull me out. THIRD EDIT: We did the February 26th search and didn't find her anywhere in Niles. On the way back to our side of the city, we did see her at the intersection of Mowry and Peralta. Actually, it was an elderly lady that had some mental health issues, was unintelligible and was wearing all white. She was also like a block away from where we first saw her in what seemed like a minute later. We were also young at the time, so who knows. Lol.

It was cool reading your reactions as you continued along with the video haha. And kudos for you and your friends in going at night on February 26th! I would psyche myself out too much to do it, haha. Have a wonderful day! xx

The aqueduct was built around 1925. Charlie Chaplin mostly did his films in the town of Niles and that was only up until 1916. He was in Hollywood by the time the thing was even built.

Hand sanitizer can be used to get poison oak oil off if you don't have any soap available. Just be careful to wipe it off and not around. Cool, I have hiked most places in the bay area but hadn't heard of this spot!
@WanderwithAwe2 жыл бұрын
Good to know in the future! Thanks! Unfortunately, I totally forgot I touched poison oak at that time until a week or so after when I started getting the rash...it took me a full day to realize why my skin was bubbling too! I hope you come to this spot sooner rather than later because there are city plans about incorporating this spot with the hiking grounds nearby, so the esthetic of this sidewalk will be gone once that happens! Have fun! xx

Trying to get here by myself is probably a bad idea huh? I'm a local but was never cool enough to go there in highschool. I want to check it out before they demolish it but I do know that it is pretty sketchy.
@WanderwithAwe Жыл бұрын
There are talks about the city adding it to park adjacent to this area. I don't know when they will actually get it done, but I believe the sidewalk is here to stay...just the abandoned urban magic of it will be gone. So if you want to see it in its raw form, now is the time. I time I went which was in 2020, there was no sketchiness...I don't know about the conditions now. I would go with one or two friends though. Good Luck!
