Here in southern California you can find them sleeping under coverboards with substrate temps as low as 50 F. I really wouldn't worry about some dips below 60 F at night, especially if it's infrequent in the winter.

In the winter I’d take them down to 50F for hibernation but that was beyond this care guide

Do you have any recommendations on handling? I feel like CKS owners are 50/50 on handling techniques. Some say to take your time and let the snake come to you and let the snake decide when they're done being handled- others say just go for it and don't let the snake think you're scared or that musking/tail rattling/striking will work on you.

Im deffo team consent based handling, the people that say the latter have are behind the times

I have alot of kingsnakes but only one that is extremely defensive. We can't even go near the glass without immediate tail rattles and strikes. Sadly they've been this way since day one, any tips?

I never see my kings bask. They prefer the cooler side

Hey, I heard that you said pine is a good substrate but you do realize it is toxic for snakes right? Cuz if the area is not well ventilated the can die due to the fumes pine releases I hope you know now☺️

@@roberthowsare1812 pine shavings are kiln dried so there’s no sap left. Plus it’s only specific species of cedar that caused irritation to lab mice in studies.

@@ReptilesandResearch ohh okay then I’d say maybe specify that kind of pine cuz someone get the wrong one and that’s not good lol, thx for responding😅

Ive heard they'll get addicted to some prey items such as other snakes & lizards if offered to the diet. Have you heard of this being the case?

@@jgfishing27 I’ve fed them snakes and everything else on the list, in my experience they are just happy to eat regardless
