Proposition bond measures that borrow billions of dollars are not FREE. Every time you vote for a bond measure to borrow billions, the tax payer must pay it back. This is done by adding a line to every property tax bill in the State. The bond line does not drop off the property tax bill until it is paid in full, years if not decades down the road. I have Prop bond measures still on my bill from 2005. While the idea of billions for schools sounds wholesome, the reality is the California Educational system draws 50% of all property tax dollars already. The system is not underfunded, it has more money than the Gross National Product of entire Nations. The money is just mismanaged and mis-spent. These Props for billions come up every year, and people still vote yes with no idea it's costing them personally. Because when you vote yes to these bonds, they must be paid back. If you are a renter, and you vote yes to these bonds, then you have no right to complain about the rent going up. Your landlord's property tax goes up, and they raise the rent to cover the increase. This is why the rent is so high in California. You vote yes on a Prop Bond for billions, property taxes must pay for the bond, and the increase is passed to the renter. It's sad the media never explains what is really happening.

I will NEVER vote yes on ANY tax or bond, regardless of its purpose. Here is what I learned about CA over the years. We have THE highest taxes, so the state already has money. The ONLY reason it is not enough is because CA mismanaged or waste spending (24 billions on homeless and nothing). Not enough for something? Cut spending somewhere else.

That's not why rent is high, rent is high because there are major obstacles to building more housing. That has lead to high cost of housing for home-buyers and renters alike. The bonds and property tax in general are based on property values. Values and rents have surged because housing supply is constrained, and increased values drives up property taxes. It's just inaccurate do blame housing costs on anything but the artificial constraining of housing supply.

This may be unpopular but I do feel inmates should be required to work. Jail/prison shouldn’t be a vacation. It should be punishment. It’s so expensive to house inmates already. If we keep making it more and more comfortable then it’s not actually deterring anyone from committing crimes. In state prison inmates get phones, tablets, gaming consoles…. I just think it’s too sweet of a deal they can not work, have someone else cook all their meals and deliver to them, wash their clothes, clean their living areas, all while they kicking their feet up and watching movies all day. On tax payers dime. If the inmates don’t work, then the tax payers will have to fund actual non-inmates to do the labor inside the jail at a significantly higher rate. Inmates still get drugs inside… so if they can just refuse to work there’s no real punishment. I’ve had inmates yell and demand the deputies to reheat their food cuz by law they are entitled to 1 “hot” meal a day not “warm”… prop 6 will definitely make jail/prison more comfy and increase spending to house them. Combine that with the other prop to make crimes back to felonies…. More inmates means more spending tax payers money. More felonies meanies people can’t get jobs due to the felony so then they resort to more crimes. It’s a never ending cycle which we will pay for.

Which prop rolls back prop 13?
@adayuen53723 ай бұрын
Prop 5. It allows local gov to increase property by making new local bonds easy with only 55% local politicians approval, so your property tax will keep on increasing with new bonds/tax to property owners.

Based on previous government spending I wouldn't give this administration a dime more, even if it's for schools... climate change regulations is the reason young people will never own homes in this state. Also we shouldn't be paying for green infrastructure while the gas tax is still a thing....

I don’t see why prop 33 would do anything other than raise property taxes paid to local governments. Because of prop 13, aren’t most investment properties likely taxed at a much lower value than what it would be if it transferred hands?

Filling out the ballot is very confusing with all this doublespeak in describing what the props are for. But I guess that is the job of the Secretary of State, to protect and serve the Governor.
