My goals for this year is to be able to walk 1 mile and then 2 miles and to keep increasing it every month. I had heart failure a few years ago and it started a cascade of health issues and I haven't been able to get out and exercise of walk. Watching surfing vlogs remind me of my earlier years when I surfed, so I watch your vlog, Koa, Ben Gravy and get motivated. Thanks for the content great vlogs. Hope you have a great season!!

Hey Lakey! Just found your channel …. …Super stoked ! Mahalos for sharing your world with us! ( you & Tom are hilarious btw). Im a near 60 yr old SOUL SurfHer from the CentralCoast of Cali. As a crazy teen aged grom , I survived a near fatal accident sustaining a TBI that left me with laundry list of emotional, behavioral & neurological CRAP! SURFING is my guiding force & the major HEALING COMPONENT to this day! ( thankfully allowing me to STILL have the energetic vibration of that surf soaked grom now that I’m a grand dame:) My goal for 2023 is to get certified as a Surf Therapy Facilitator (& run a community based program here at my homebreak ) as to “give back “ (& promote!) the lifestyle that saved butt! Hi Lakey. So cool and fun you're doing this. I have a two layer goal. To improve my surf game, which has taken a back seat to my boog sessions for past 20 years. I need to get my own board (will borrow hubby's until then). I want to document it over the year ahead and figure out cameras and editing along the way. Inspired in equal part by you two and also Beau Miles. So, one part is the surfing. Inspired by your tutorial on how to do a cutback. But in reality I will be satisfied with a decent bottom turn and some kind of hit on the lip. The second part is to make a film or digital story about it. Inspired by Beau and also your hubby Tom in his paddle adventure from Santa Barbara to San Clemente. Happy New Year and yewww. Neet from HB

I'm slightly older and started a little later in life. As a result, I've taken up SUP surfing - sorry :(. But wanted to set a goal to get out more. Additionally, it would be a dream(goal) to actually learn to regular surf. I've tried multiple times with no success. Just seems like it would open up the surf locations. New, smaller SUP board this year, and just wanted to try and find more time to camp and surf this year! I'll put it on the list to try and get up normally this year! Happy New Year! Cheers!

Also to get more comfortable on big lefts, coming from Santa Barbara, I have stuck to right points. So I suck going backside. 3. For logging, I better hang ten this year. get better at fading in, cross stepping and style.

Shouldn't take too long being that Leds is my home spot, Sandpit is the alternate when it's good. Cold chilly wetsuit, ugh that's brutal 🥶

Thanks so much Kirsty! I like these goals. I’ve found the bigger wave deal is a hard one to overcome. Personally I think falling or getting a big wave on the head is almost the best thing to break this fear barrier as you pop up and realise ‘that wasn’t so bad’. Oh I just realised that I didn't set a goal. Hmm. I haven't lived on the coast for over 25 years so windsurfing went out of the window and I've been riding bikes and trying to play guitar instead. However, I've always wanted to be able to surf. If I can sort my stupid back out, I'm going to drive somewhere and give it a go later in the year. I did try briefly in the '90s but the waves sucked where I lived and I didn't have any lessons. 2023 could be the year! I'll probably cheat and go and get a lesson at a wave pool 😁

Ahhh really! The best advice we recently got from shark experts was that they are not interested in humans. Unless the water quality is poor and they mistake you for something else. Still scary though! Hope you can surf a little more 🙌

A little side of tetanus and don't swallow the water 😂 I feel the same way sometimes at a spot I surf with a storm drain here on the Outer Banks of NC 😝 ...maybe a little better than a storm drain in San Clemente though?😬😉 And the wet wetsuit torture was awesome. 😂 Keeping your man on his toes, Lakey. 💪 Goal- just going to keep working on my turns. So, here is a goal for 2023, every time you fly over an ocean, you must wear your helmet on the plane! That will give the people on the plane a good story to tell, "Holy cow, I met that surfer Lakey Peterson, she was on my flight and was so cool. And she wears a helmet on planes. @@Lakey_Peterson So it is less of a surf goal than an ocean goal. My goal is always to be in as many bodies of salt water I can possibly be. The other is a specific thing I like to do. I like to stand in the water, with my feet on the bottom and the water covering my shoulders. A little weightless, but not all the way free. I just stand there and the goal is to feel the power of the ocean, and to feel my lack of power in comparison. It is ALWAYS incredibly emotional. Always.
