I live in an Australian town prone to cyclones but very few fires. Crews go out into the rural area and set fire to the scrub BEFORE the fire season. As ugly as it is to see scorched earth, we have some confidence that we won't have to deal with this kind of devastation. As Aussies found out on Black Saturday, a wind change can mean hundreds of fatalities and nothing short of torrential rain will extinguish those fires. The residents have every right to be angry but this goes way beyond hydrants.

We do that but this is a huge area of all houses, not outback. The houses are filled with hot flammable material and gas lines, the fire gets hotter as it jumps from house to house. Before the houses any fire would just burn dry grass and scrub, then be contained easily.

As someone from LA, complaining about “electing the right people” pretty much means she’s a Republican who blames everything on the democrats. The Pacific Palisades, a neighborhood of Los Angeles, is insanely rich. They vote for their city councilmen and county supervisor, of which neither is partisan (no party affiliation) The water levels aren’t the cause of the fire, they are in response to the fire. The Palisades are mountainous terrain, with excessive water usage every year. Fire happens, fire department (and county) limits water usage to fight the fire, water dries up. The reservoirs are not big in the palisades. Blaming the governor (let alone the federal government) for local (and I’m talking neighborhood council) type issues is really insane. Especially from people who don’t like paying much in taxes to begin with or who actively try to stop any changes to their “scenic view”.

The area had 3 one million gallon water tanks that were used up one by one as the fire was being fought. They didn't refill fast enough. It also appears the problem was mostly in the higher elevation areas. To be honest, if LADWP raised water rates to put more tanks in Palisades Highland I could see lots of people in other parts of L.A. complaining. This wasn't Newsom's fault. And he did meet with Biden that day to request federal aid.

Nothing was done when Santa Rosa burned in 2017 leaving the exact images as this fire or a year later when when 18000 structures burned in a fire along with the whole city of Paradise killing 55. Maybe now that a famous LA neighborhood filled with Hollywood celebrities gets destroyed California will finally try some sort of proper fire mitigation efforts. 4 years ago a large rural neighborhood by me was burned down and the fire was inches away from wiping out a heavily populated neighborhood. 2 years later a local city was destroyed by flood due to poorly maintained levies failing. There are countless examples in the last decade, California has cities and neighborhoods destroyed on a consistent basis and no real changes ever happen, just corruption and incompetence.

Time & time again, natural disasters after natural disasters, people like to blame their leaders no matter who's in charge. Look, natural disasters may be predictable but not completely. No matter how prepared the government is and however much contingency plans are in place, there are situations when damages & , unfortunately, loss of lives are unavoidable. It's up to each individual to prepare themselves & their families for any sorts of emergencies. Have a plan & have contingency plans for that plan. Prepare emergency food, water, medical supplies, etc. We've gone through Covid. We already know that we can't rely completely on the government. We all need to take some personal responsibility.

Well he didn’t refill the reservoir’s with water which would have help the fire hydrants to be filled. He never called the electric company to shut down the electrical system. We have had heavy winds in los angeles before that did not cause these rapid fires to engulf entire towns. The land is dry and it is up to government officials to maintain the land for the people. Thats what we pay taxes for. Newsom governs the state, and has the ability to fund preventative measures in case of another fire in the history of the many fires in california, but he didn’t do diddly squat. 🤬 also, LA mayor cuts $17 million in funding for firefighters in a fire prone state? Pure Negligence, almost as if the authorities in government wanted this to happen.
