Thanks for the memories. Did the Zephyr from Sacramento to Chicago in July 2009 after coming down from Eugene Oregon to Sac on the Coast Starlight. Look forward to seeing more of your excellent movies. Roger from the UK

Thanks for a very nice video. Did a truly magnificent 7,500 mile trip in May 2012, coast-to-coast and back on the legendary California Zephyr, the San Joaquin, the Pacific Surfliner, the Sunset Limited, the Crescent and finally the Lake Shore Limited. This felt really like "From sea to shining sea." I had a wonderful time in the US. I live in Sweden.

Very nice. Especially liked the good captures of the two lane Interstate hanging in two layers on the side of the steep canyon. We did this journey eastbound in 2009. We came down from Seattle to Sacramento heading back east, just so we could see this part of the country an make this trip through the Rockies. Again, very nice video.

I enjoyed seeing your photos of the north coast of Ireland. They reminded me of my visit there with my father. We took the train from Dublin to Coleraine. Along the tracks, we could see the wrecks of Northern Ireland Railway trains that had been bombed. That was in the 1980's. I know you will enjoy your trip on the California Zephyr next year.

I took that trip from Chicago to Oakland and man the scenery from Denver to Salt Lake City couldn't be beat. The Moffat tunnel was not a highlight. That was one long tunnel. Could have done without that. Big fear of tunnels.

Coast-to-coast would be fun. I talked with several people on the train who were traveling that distance, changing trains in Chicago. They were having a good time. They just complained about the showers. I hope you get to take the full trip someday. If not, Denver, Colorado, to Green River Utah is great, almost all is in the daytime in both directions.

Thanks for your note. I just hope the Zephyr and its sister long-distance trains continue to get the funding they need to operate.

To try to answer your question....Depending on the accomodations aboard the train you have....If you have a full size bedroom, the shower is in the room as well as the toilet...it is a toilet/shower combination. If you have a roomette, the showers are located on the lower level of the sleeper car, there are 2 or 3 of them and they are bigger than the ones in the full size bedrooms...but they are "public" showers for use by all the roomettes in that sleeper car. Rooms in sleepers are more money

Sorry, I don't recall the nature of the complaint. For prices, check Amtrak's website.

How long was the ride?
@SeaToby119 жыл бұрын
Mychael Hall 62 hours Chicago to Oakland. 15 hours Denver to Salt Lake City. Less if you stop at Grand Junction or Glenwood Springs, 8 and 6 hours respectively. Probably the best scenic views on Amtrak in the United States, but there are others almost as great.

All of the six trains have their charm and highlights, but the CZ had a breathtakingly beautiful route through the Rocky Mountains and the Sierra Nevada. I also enjoyed the Pacific Surfliner (so close to the ocean!) and the Lake Shore Limited along the Hudson River. No pass. I composed my trip by putting together six legs. Check out Amtrak's prizewinning website. It is excellent. (I sound like an Amtrak employee, which I'm not. But Amtrak did an amazing job.)

Search for this video on You Tube....Superliner Roomette Tour 2....The man who made the video will answer many questions about riding in a sleeper car on Amtrack...And yes the Roomettes and Full Bedrooms are more expensive than riding coach...But there are definate benefits..The pricing is all available on Amtracks website...You just choose your starting point and destination and it will give you info on available "trains" and pricing...

I live in austin I would only get to start from there...why were the people complaining about the showers? Are they small? For me, I would apreciate being able to take a shower and have a way to clean myself up. How much are those roomettes or sleeping quarters? Or do they cost extra??
@JohnMcKelvieLV12 жыл бұрын
I am sure it must have been a great trip. Which journey did you enjoy most? Did you have something like a US version of the Eurail Pass? I certainly enjoyed traveling around Europe by train on that pass. On my only trip to Sweden, I did not get to see much. I was there just long enough to drop off by 1971 Volvo in Gothenburg for shipment back to the US.

You're right. The "train" music doesn't do justice to the magnificent scenery. John Barry's music would have.

@HughMartell8 жыл бұрын
+UFOSPACE1999 I so disagree about your comment. You're only bitching when you learned the music was canned. Had you known the music was created by John V. , you'd have sung a different tune (pun intended). The guitar music gave the video a perfect western folksy complement that fits very well. If you feel that strong about it, ask John nicely and maybe he'll let you download his video for you to add some of John Barry's music (a great composer I agree). I'd be tickled to see how it turns out.
