Ted is quite the character. I worked for decades in telecom media with Ted, and met my match for late night debauchery. 🥴 He made me look like a choir boy. No judgement. We worked really hard and partied harder (and no one got hurt). I have hours of amusing stories of his antics (and mine) from those days. His off-the-cuff comments to me, when he was so hammered it was a wonder he could stand, are legendary.

In the early 80s, my father filmed Ted Turner's yacht cut off Rupert Murdoch's yacht in the Sydney-Hobart off White Rock in the River Derwent. They say that forced Murdoch to start Sky in the UK to get back at Turner. Further, some years earlier to the previous, whilst filming a yachting story on Turner's boat, another colleague (who is coincidentally regarded as one of the best combat cinematographers in the world) was told by Turner of his plans for CNN but said "no-one wants that much news" and turned down one of the first jobs he would've given. To this day, David Brill, AM ACS, watches CNN almost daily and can't get enough!

There's about 10 seconds of footage from the 80s including a Road Warriors promo, and Christiane Amanpour talking about the noise the wrestlers made on the floor above them when they were doing the news at CNN. That's it.

He must have been really happy back in 1995. WCW was a ratings bonanza. TCM was starting to get viewers back into old school movies while his cable stations were utilizing satellite technology. The Atlanta Braves would go on to win the World Series. A big deal in MLB history when you realize that the '95 team put the Braves organization into untouched territory. The only MLB franchise to have won a championship for 3 different cities!❤

His whole colorizing classic movies was one of the things he was most famous for. I remember the short lived cartoon The Critic were they had a character Duke Phillips who was base on Turner do the same thing as an off hand joke. The funny thing is after all the backlash over it he started TMC which at the time was one of only two cable channels devoted to classic movies.

"I started watching TV in 1970. I had hardly watched any at all before then. And I was appalled. I just couldn't believe how stupid it was. And I thought, 'My God, we're going to have a nation of idiots running around if we continue to watch this garbage.' And that's what came true." Lots of wrastlin fans here. I am surprised at all the virtual fellatio Ted’s getting here. His politics aside, I’m sorta tired of hearing people with mind boggling wealth say things like Columbus was the man to prove the earth was round while refusing to pay even the same amount of taxes as a sandwich artist. Some of the most interesting, intelligent, and empathetic people this world has known will die at worst broke and at best in debt. At least Marie Antoinette was ignorant when she said, “let them eat cake.” Unfortunately for her the citizenry were hungry for something more savory. Damn shame what happened to her. Come to think of it, im kinda hungry. All that aside, I will be watching this immediately. You have to admire him if only for his hubris. And for bagging Hanoi Jane when she was… something
