It may not be a perfect scenario, but the actual play Seth did with the Glass Cannon Network sure was close. Not only was it a real treat to see Seth play and interact with the guys, but then to see they really did have good chemistry together was such a bonus. As always, I love Seth’s reviews. Fair, thorough, and on point. This guy is a treasure to the TTRPG community. Thanks Seth!

I loved watching the scenario, and I'm very grateful to the introduction to Glass Cannon's content. I've got tons of hours of entertainment from their other stuff on youtube and their patreon. I even decided to start running some Delta Green after watching Get in the Trunk. They produce grade-A content. Voyagers of the Jump, which featured Seth, was amazing. And they have a really diverse lineup of games and players.

When I ran this adventure, I had the monster start hacking stuff in town to try and slow them down as they went to where it was hiding in the industrial park. Stuff like overloading phones to explode and hurt players and/or nearby NPCs, hijacking smartcars and trying to have those hit the PCs, etc. and I also described the air above the industrial park glowing blue due to the air being ionized a’la the Chernobyl disaster (the Chernobyl series was airing at the time and so I used that as inspiration), to hint at the severity of whats going on.

No problem at all, Amy. It always breaks my heart when I hear how one jerk player can ruin the whole experience for everyone, especially when it causes the GM to consider hanging up their spurs. A lot of the other commenters were focused on what the argument was about (an yes, he was astoundingly wrong), but with players like that it doesn't matter. They'll always find some dumb thing to latch onto, go into nerd rage, and ruin everyone's fun. Ignorance can be cured, but bullying assholes are a different matter. I've learned and re-learned this the hard way. I hope your group can get past that experience and can relegate it to, "You guys remember that misogynistic jerk we had a few years back? What a dick."

Thinking about what might happen if the clock is ticking and the PCs utterly fail to work things out. They're staying far enough from the factory when the device explodes and maybe the last scene has them standing in a backyard looking down over a huge crater that has just formed (it was an 'clean' interdimensional explosion that only destroys matter within an exact radius and leaves a sharp distinction between the two). Finally, a message floods the Internet, saying "sorry but I had to get home."

7:03 - Anything that can be too much can be foreshadowed and then it's up to the players to notice. Maybe when it notices there's a certain type of static that runs across the screen/goes through the speaker and then .. something happens Maybe the first time they get a shock and drop their phone. When they pick it back up they found it hit the ground just right to be unusable. They buy a new one and this time - static - then ransomware. They go to a library or some public rental and then - static - a power line in the wall overheats tripping the fire alarm, dousing them and destroying all the computers in the place. At that point they ought to notice and it might start watching rather than reacting. One way to hint further is to make the static resemble the pattern of holes.

Actually, with a little bit of extra work on the GM's part, it sounds like the scenario could be adopted to a scifi setting like Traveller. It would be off beat for the setting but potentially a lot of fun. The party would have access to more resources and could puzzle some things out better, but on some advanced planets that are even more dependent on computers, the entity could also wreak all kinds of havoc. Especially if one or more chatracters have cybernetics. One second Charlie or whoever would be researching the thing on the net, and the next the party sees Charlie repeatedly punching himself with his own bionic arm...

Only issue with FBI is it removes a few of the obstacles of getting into the crime scene and what-not. The local police might make a stink out of jurisdiction, but considering that their computer system has already been fried, might be more than happy to pass this one off to the feds. I might have their director call the FBI characters in and tell them outright how the local cops already lost their computers to this super-hacker killer, so the PCs are going in "off the books" in order to protect the FBI mainframes. Meanwhile the local police, who desperately want to pass this off, won't allow the FBI PCs to have access to anything unless the FBI formally accepts the case. That would mean the PCs still have to sneak/charm/intimidate the information.

Maybe have the creature order parts for the device to a particular location. Maybe someone saw multiple people that all happen to match the descriptions of the victims collecting the packages. The PCs might be able to use that as a sting setup or follow the creature to the industrial park.

Another good touchstone is the 1st season Angel episode "Lonely Hearts".

Do I spot the reprint of the West End Games Star Wars Roleplaying game on the top shelf in the background? I see Mr. Skorkowsky is a man of great taste. Also, does anyone know what the Cthulhu books with those ominous blood red and green lettering are? I admit I only find them interesting because of the colour scheme. I THINK the red one is the anniversary Keeper book?

Depending on the size of the userbase of said website - people also could be rationalizing that it couldn't POSSIBLY happen to them.

A good red herring is a weird copycat, or wannabe vigilantes trying to set up "dates" with the killer, which can create more havoc & cover for the alien.

as someone who works with cell phones 32g isn't a thing (the g stands for generation of cellular devices, like wise the data wouldn't fry the phone but the wireless charging that i could see as a thing but i would add electrical discharges around the devices as they aren't ment to do that and its very likely the devices would fry
