Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's Multiple Endings Explained

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has multiple ending scenarios for its single-player campaign. Let's take a look at each one.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has a few endings to its single-player campaign mode. Players are given the option to save the world by preventing a nuclear war, or teaming up with Perseus to commence the launch and deter the Americans to a dead end. Throughout the story, you’re given many options to progress the way you want. But when it comes to this final mission, a lot more is at stake and your actions are a matter of life or death. Here’s how your options break down.
After some mental interrogation, your character Bell wakes up and finds themselves with Adler and the American team. You’re strapped to a chair and given one choice: Tell Adler the truth about Perseus’ location and help prevent a nuclear catastrophe, or lie to him, divert the American team to another location, and help Perseus vaporize all of Europe. If you tell Adler the truth, you get the canonical ending where you, Mason, Woods, and Adler head to the Solovetsky islands and stop the launch from happening. Perseus escapes but America wins this fight and saves all of Europe.
Lying to Adler sends you to the Duga array in the Ukraine- a distraction for Perseus to start the launch with no Americans in his way. If you unlocked the secret door in Hudson’s base prior to this mission, you also have a chance to not only turn your back on the US team, but plan an ambush that leads to the deaths of Woods, Mason, Kim and Adler by your own hands. Once the US team is killed, you and the mysterious man (who turns out NOT to be Perseus) launch the nukes and blame the United States. One thing I didn't see anyone point out is that if you save Lazar but betray Adler in the end without calling an ambush, Lazar looks away when Adler kills you. But if you saved Park, she would look at you while you get shot at. Bros before hoes

In the mission push on through where adler is telling you to do stuff and you have the option to obey him, Just to the right of the cave you are supposed to go in, the is a statue of vladimir lenin. If you go close to it there is a hatch that you can open and you fall down a very long pit. You awaken in a tunnel with a pistol and a flashlight and it appears you have become a tunnel rat. Well you eventually reach a large chamber but you can't see very far because it is extremely dark. After you walk around for a bit, zombies will gone at you and you have to fight then of one by one. This was completely unexpected and i loved it.

Bell was betrayed by his own comrade because "Bell" was Perseus favorite while dying Adler finds him and brainwashes him making him forget all his prior memories including his real name and he didn't get his memory back until the last mission. But Bell was Perseus’s favorite. And considering his line of work, I doubt Bell was a big softie who got there by convincing everyone to hold hands. Bell most likely was as much of a merciless monster as Perseus, but was betrayed. So having his mind wiped was the CIA’s way to get a valuable asset while also neutralizing a highly dangerous threat. And besides, would his life be worth more than the millions of European - Not even American - lives of men, women, and children? I don’t think so.

But from Bell's perspective, he endured utterly _horrid_ abuse from Adler and Park; at this personal level Bell is 100% justified in betraying Adler For comparison, go rewatch what happens to Mason in Black Ops 1; then imagine that he was brainwashed into believing he had always been a Russian named "Ivan" and was forced to carry out missions for the KGB. Yet, they already have Brezhnev who set up their arms way bigger on the east. If Codename BELL knew about it and thinking letting Perseus do what they planned, then Soviet would be much more worried what would happened to Perseus in the end of it - Takeover the Leadership. Also, letting you lie and kill all of them in Duga will be much, much ironic because it's not what Soviet and KGB want to in the end - it's Perseus demand. Remember that Perseus is just a terrorist cell like what 80's infamous Red Terror happened, basically funded by KGB but not as a part of Soviet - just for a barrow of it. It's like Jihadist in Afghanistan back in the 70's and 80's too, they will be much troublesome in the future. So, the Lie + Ambush ending would be hard to accept because that's not what Soviet want to rid the West influence around Europe - that's too extreme to send a regard of war and it became the scapegoat for this conflict. And also, the Soviet are surprised with Perseus too because it goes off in Truth Ending End Sequence.

So basically the good ending: bad ending. The bad ending: the worst ending. The worst ending: the good ending (because you live as bell but adler, woods, and/or park and lazar, die. Even though i kill my "teammates" i think the worst ending is the good ending for bell because he lives and evn though for the good ending it leaves the "who died" ending i say bell and adler die even though it don't tell us who dies and lives, so hate me if ya want, i say the worst ending is the good ending for bell, even though its not canon) Edit- also the mission were you have to go through memories and adler tells you to go were to the red door of the bunker, don't listen to him, the game itself tells you not to trust adler.

Which is sound make sense that Adler found dead along with Codename: BELL too in epilogue scene. They both dueling, so it makes sense that possibility two of them died are highly happened - although Adler draw the gun first. After all, Black Ops never give us the image of Spy World Heroes, right? It just all grey like Reznov said - "The flag may be different but the methods are the same. They will use you, as they used me."

The canon ending could honestly set up another Black Ops installment before the events of Black Ops 2. BO2 starts in 1986 and CW in 1981. Considering this game never really explains what happened to Adler or Bell, it still gives them another 5 years to work with before BO2 and make another game. I feel this would be good because CW barely tied into Black Ops 1 or 2. This would be their opportunity to tie all the games together.

I think the good ending could actually be detrimental from the fact that during the weird, memory serum injection, or, sometime shortly after, Adler mentions that the process of reprogramming Bell’s memory was easier than they expected, or, something like that, (I only watched a walkthrough) and being that this is during the Cold War, when you can’t trust anyone, Adler may have known all along, that since Bell was easy to mentally break and reprogram, he would have to be executed when the crisis was resolved, to ensure that he couldn’t be captured by the Soviet Union and reprogrammed, once again. The story kind of helps you see that no matter who’s ideology you believe is the best and blindly follow, the government is truly evil in every nation.

So it's either... "Do the right thing and save millions at the expense of my own life" or "Double cross everyone and spare my own life at the cost of millions". Not bad COD, not bad at all. But I don't understand why Adler iced Bell at the end though. Was it because he was brainwashed? Or he just couldn't be trusted despite telling the truth of the launch site's location and saving the free world? Alex Mason was compromised and brainwashed by Dragovic but he received psychological counseling despite everything he did and going rogue in the first Black Ops campaign.

I think it was because he worked for Perseus, and at any point he could revert back to working for them, and with the information he has it is just too big of a risk. That's just my take on it; Bell is a loose end and it's better to just take him out to ensure he doesn't defect back to his original side than to trust he is on their (America's) side.

Because the singleplayer is made by Raven Software, not Treyarch. Infact this game wasn't even supposed to be Black ops, it was supposed to be something entirely different. But Raven clashed with Sledgehammer, so Treyarch was in brought in to fix it.

In the mission push on through where adler is telling you to do stuff and you have the option to obey him, Just to the right of the cave you are supposed to go in, the is a statue of vladimir lenin. If you go close to it there is a hatch that you can open and you fall down a very long pit. You awaken in a tunnel with a pistol and a flashlight and it appears you have become a tunnel rat. Well you eventually reach a large chamber but you can't see very far because it is extremely dark. After you walk around for a bit, zombies will gone at you and you have to fight then of one by one. This was completely unexpected and i loved it.

I got the normal ending (got killed by Adler after helping them), and the effing betrayal 🤣 anyway, on my second playthrough I acted against every instructions Adler told me to do during the drugged missions, ran into a zombie easter egg, so that was pretty cool. The "Bad" ending with the nukes makes the most sense from Bell's personal perspective, but any ending where millions of innocent people die and a continent is turned into a nuclear wasteland is always a bad one, despite it being more far more interesting than the status quo "good" ending.

You guys realise that the Canon ending came with multiple possibilities, 1. Bell and Adler shot each other at the same time which means they both killed each other. 2. Adler shot Bell first. 3. A *best* ending would have been calling for the ambush and drawing out Perseus (even if that rogue POS wasnt) and killing his team. Bell would be a triple agent and the team would likely be killed but turning a double agent into a triple involves a very twisted, complex story the writers may have avoided for time constraints. And Adler wouldn't have the ability to kill Bell because the USG had invested so much time and resources into turning him.
