Yeah the plot is so confusing and weird. They decide to include Novak and then at the start just kill him off. And the story goes from "The Germans are murdering the civilians at Stalingrad" to "Aw yeah me and my bro are going to single handedly destroy 2 Aircraft carriers and give those Japs Pearl Harbor". and there are only 2 missions that aren't the backstories of the characters.

My issues with vanguard is the disregard for the very history they base their game on. Why was the 91st ID in Stalingrad? Why were there T34/85s at Stalingrad when they didn’t exist until 1944? Why were there M4A3 76W Sherman’s in 1943? Why do the MG-42s have no muzzle break? Why does Stalingrad look so nice? It wasn’t a traditional European city, it was mostly comblocks and factories. Leningrad looked all pretty and nice, not Stalingrad. Why were there Panzer IV F2 at Stalingrad? The F2 didn’t exist yet. Why do the Japanese use German weapons? Why couldn’t they even get the uniforms right? Why couldn’t they get uniform patches right? Why are the dates of battles wrong? Why do the germans have panzerfausts in Africa? Like, holy fuck it’s honestly painful

I thought the wrong calibers on all the weapons, and switching to completely other calibers when you upgrade the magazine size, or the idiotic attachments for the era, and cringy af no soul one-liners of the little bit about the campaign I've watched on KZbin was disgustingly horrible enough. Hell let loose ruined CoD games in WW2 for me, whenever i see one of those dramatic death scenes all i can think about is watching as my buddy gets blown to pieces by enemy artillery. No warning, no lead up, just "Hey i think i see some guys over-" and then he just turned into chunks of meat at my feet. Although i am happy they made the female character a comrade of the soviet union as they did actually use women in combat.

Ok, let's be honest here, it Activision was forced to put in a female protagonist, why didn't they just do what medal of honor did, with having gameplay based around sneaking through places, and having objectives you need to do, think of the one Kremlin level in cold war, but instead of it being one segment, it would a whole level, with the challenge being to get around with the least amount of things destroyed and people killed to get whatever info you need. And then for regular CoD gameplay they could have had you play as a Russian who's story ends up with him being one of the first groups of Russians to find the concentration camps, and the levels would mainly consist of trying to destroy the " work camps " and leaving them in flames, to find out the horrors the Germans have started. Or just have you play as a American fighting the Japanese during their conflict.

Randy's mission was the best part of this game and had me at the edge of my seat, I was especialy scared when randy realized he had no toilet paper, but he managed to get out with the stregth of 1000 john xinas that had me with tears in my eyes , and the plot twist that randy wasn't homeless was the best reveal in history gaming,truly the best character development ever seen in a game 11/10 would play the mission again12:00

He do be right though. Polina Petrova is sort of a poorly based and modeled version of Lyudmila Pavlichenko, who was born in Ukraine in the USSR. Also a fun fact, the USSR attempted to make a matyr of her by leaving her and the rest of the troops at Sevastopol to die to the Nazis. The only reason she lived is because one of her boyfriends gave her his boat pass because he was a doctor which was relatively rare and sacrificed his own life for her. Oh yeah, edit: No she didn't cheat. She had like 3 boyfriends, but every time she got one they would die in horrible incidents. One died in a mortar attack when they where moving to a new location and he jumped on top of her to save her, the other was killed in a battle and his rifle was brought back to Lyudmila when she was healing after being shot (which led to her going back to war not fully healed) and then the last one died in Sevastopol defending the city.

However, specifically, Lyudmila was from Ukraine, specifically a Jewish area (another reason the Soviet Union tried to wipe them out in the battle for Sevastopol) and she always referred to herself as a Ukrainian from the USSR, besides at a few speeches that the USSR made her read in the US where she was told to say she was Russian. Vanguard is not a good source at all for Lyudmila Pavlichenko and it barely goes into anything that really happened in her life. But if you look more into it or watch the Russian and Ukrainian joint production "Battle of Sevastopol" it is certainly very interesting.

Vanguard has too many historical inaccuracies, that I could write a book about it. Ever since cod became “woke” their campaigns have sucked and I haven’t bought a new cod in years. Black ops 1 and WAW were 2 of the greatest games activision has made and gone are the days when you could hop on the game without having to worry about offending someone.
