+Not Disclosed What disgusts me is that our own leaders turned a blind eye to Soviet atrocities and even helped cover them up, because to do otherwise would risk alienating our "only ally" in the fight against Fascism. The Katyn cover-up is but one instance among many during the war that the Allies swept under the rug. I have seen the declassified communications between Roosevelt and Churchill. Pihip is right. Another thing that really boils my blood is the Allied betrayal of Poland / Czechoslovakia and the deliberate "repatriation" of White Russian and Cossack collaborators to the Soviet Union, who were in turn, murdered in their thousands. The Allies did the same to fleeing Yugoslav nationals, Slovenians, Croats, Serbs, Hungarians and even Bulgarians. All ruthlessly murdered by Stalin. EDIT: I cannot forget that Sweden also participated in such war crimes by voluntarily "extraditing" Latvian, Lithuanian and Estonian collaborators to the Soviet Union. They were murdered as well, or sent to Gulags.

Thats the problem of western game (and movies) makers is that they cant really express properly the motivation of Soviet people. At worst it is when they fight because they are forced by their commanders having machine guns aiming at their back, at best its when they go "raaaaaagh revenge revenge kill germans hand me over my machete". What about love and loyalty towards their motherland, their families, fighting for all that is left behind in the homeland? Although CoD WaW is the best CoD ever in terms of Soviet campaign that doesnt show all these stupid myths created by western movies and doesnt show Soviet soldiers helpless and scared with 1 rifle to 3 people going to battle because if not the germans then red army commissioners will shoot them (The worst examples are Enemy at the gate, CoD 1 and etc)

Even the Soviet theme sounds more like a threat to Germany than a victory to the URSS.

Nailed it spot on. I feel like that's because WaW's portrayal of war is just so... Real. It isn't romanticized, glorified or uplifting. In fact, the game's atmosphere is downright oppressive and creepy at times. It simply shows war as war: the brutal bloodstained landscape that it is.
@thelrproject2574 жыл бұрын
@@tgr3423 I'd say that reznov''s character itself fits in as the romanticism and glorification of war but its always in stark contrast to whats actually happening on screen. reznov repeats "their land… To their people… To their blood.” throughout from vendetta to the mission in the german countryside where you're burning down fields all the way to berlin. its actually genius how a character like reznov can almost be used as a charicature of how nationalism is represented in soldiers in contrast to what is going on around them.

They portrayed how the Red Army was waging revenge against Germany because of the treatment they received when the Axis was winning the war. For the other Allies members, this was more a duty than anything else. For the Soviet Union, this was personal. Imagine the bloodlust and desire of revenge of the Red Soviet Army as an unstoppable horde of hungry zombies. They were similar to that.
@DakotaofRaptors4 жыл бұрын
@@AaronDarkus the same sentiment can be said for Japanese and US personnel in the Pacific: a mix of appalling conditions, cultural differences, and racism led to plenty of bad blood during the war. Japanese troops would often mutilate American war dead, and the Americans would do much the same. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_mutilation_of_Japanese_war_dead The Japanese initiated an unprovoked attack on the US, so obviously that would turn people sour. Soldiers from all nations that were captured by the Japanese were often subjected to brutal torture - and killed thereafter. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_Ignatowski Not to mention the tactics that Japanese troops would employ unconventional tactics, such as feigning death, blowing themselves up, partaking in mass banzai charges, etc. I think it's safe to that - for the Americans fighting in the Pacific at least - it was just as personal.

German is an interesting language (I take classes on it, so I understand it). Its verbs are very fun to play with because of the many various prefixes that can provide much flexibility in what to say. "Sterben" is the basic term for "to die", but it looks like "verrecken" can mean "to croak" or "to die a wretched death".

2:58 still makes the hairs on my neck stand. No nation on earth could have lasted so long fighting against the Russians, The US, The UK, pretty much all of Europe (eventually Romanian turncoats), Canada, Australia, New Zealand, much of Africa and India. It shows just how tough the Germans were. RIP to ALL lives lost during WW2

All nations who took part in the war contributed to the fight. For the Allies we have thank America getting in the fight and supplying her allies,Britain for holding the line against the German bombing and helping the underground French resistance. Russia for stopping Hitler's troopers on eastern front. Canada,Poland and Australia for being excellent pilots and tank fighters and thank you China for distracting Japan so America could take the islands back from Japan. And Italy for being useless to Germany in North Africa and defecting to allies once she was defeated.

@ Chairman Stein, here is what you said: "The Soviet Union out-produced, out-manned, and out-gunned the U.S military for decades. They beat the U.S to Space AND in Technological advancements. Without them the Allied Powers would have been fighting the Reich for another four/five years at the least" Then explain why we not only had the lend-lease program with Russia in which America sent supplies to Russia, but we also sent them vast amounts of oil because they didn't have near enough oil to supply their own oil.
@Falcone4511 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the Russians may have outmanned a lot of armies, but they barely had enough guns for half the soldiers!
@kalmahcarl11 жыл бұрын
Falcone45 That's a horrible lie. At the start of the war, the Red Army had millions of Mosin-Nagants ready for use, more than enough for every man in the army (and lets not forget it wasn't the only weapon used). The whole "Soviet soldiers being forced into battle without weapons" is just a fictitious myth, made up to demonize Red Army leadership and dramatize the Eastern Front. Also, Red Army soldiers were very rarely shot for just retreating from battle. They'd run into Barrier troops, who would redirect the retreating troops back towards the fighting.
@dagrizzla625211 жыл бұрын
No because in cod finest hour half the red army couldn't supply enough weaponry in the first mission.
@kalmahcarl11 жыл бұрын
You're comparing a videogame to real life. As I said, it's a myth to make the Soviet victory seem more dramatic, just like how people seem to think Europe was all but defeated until America stepped in. Of course there would be times where soldiers might not be able to get to their weapons in time, or might lose them, but they were NEVER sent to fight without a rifle. There were about 3 times as many rifles as there were soldiers. Every army in history makes a surplus of weapons in case soldiers lose their own. An army without weapons is not an army.
@kr1t1kalsh0t710 жыл бұрын
kalmahcarl The story is a mixture of truth and fiction: The truth is in 1914 in WWI the Russian army had 6,553,000 men, however, they only had 4,652,000 rifles, and untrained troops were sent into battle without guns. The fiction comes from the film Enemy at the Gates, where the opening battle scene has every other man in Vasily Zaitsev platoon being given a rifle and being told "when the man with the gun dies, the man with the ammunition must pick up his rifle". However, during the battle of Stalingrad the important factor for the Soviets was manpower - not industrial output - they had enough rifles. They needed men to hold positions, not to die for the want of a cheap rifle. answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110505090204AAIHsFG
