Do you mean bus/metro tickets ? you can use cash, (1 or 2 yuan for bus tickets). and you can also activate WeChat or Alipay to buy it

Roaming plan is ok, and it's working for google, WhatsApp without VPN. But a little bit slow connection. Or you can buy data plan on the China airports, most airports offer service like that

You need to verify your Alipay account before going to China. And you can try setup make payment by password not SMS code. Note: some people still can receive SMS code, however some can not when they're in China.

Im a foreigner but when i order on didi in alipay, the driver asked for the code that was sent to my phone number. I dont have a chinese phone number so of course i dont have the code. They drive me to the destination anyways but they always ask for the code =(( Can i ask if the code is important and do we really need to give the driver the code?

I don't know if users need to provide code to driver. Me, Chinese users only need to provide the last 4 numbers of your phone number (this is just for checking the driver pick up the right person). Did you register Didi with phone number? If you didn't link phone number, it probably be normal to ask you the code.

No need, just use your country's phone number. If you use local phone number then everything needs local request, like local bank, local resident id.
